It's a heated rivalry, but it's also a bit one sided.

How would you rank the Columbus/Detroit rivalry, or does it lack credibility? I've heard a few Blue Jackets talk about the Red Wings the way that Ohio State Buckeyes view the Michigan Wolverines, but I don't know if they're officially rivals.

Well, it used to not be so one-sided. Ottawa is just too good this year.

Round two of Flames/Canucks tonight.
I Can't wait... If we win I think we can finally forget about the terrible start to the season and focus on whats ahead... Plus maybe people will start dismissing us as a "non-playoff contender" team and ya...

No predictions though...

Thats not that big... I'd say edmontons bigger rival is calgary but recently the Battle of Alberta has been pretty one sided (every season either Calgary or Edmonton have came close to sweeping the series)...

and I don't see that much of a rivialry between Detroit and the Avs although I've only watched like 2 of those games so ya :-/

Toronto and Ottawa (Used to) own(s) but no I think ottawa will destroy toronto... Man ottawa is fucking good this year.

Columbus are closer to the Wings, but I'd still say that it's a little one-sided. The Wings are dominating the West (sadly) and I have to say they are the early favourites to be the champs in the West at least.

That was a classy game. I like it when rivalries produce close fought contests like that one.

I think so far this season has been pretty interesting, then again I am saying this after the year of not playing so I'm happy just for the fact that they're playing.

Nashville and Carolina are early surprises in how they're playing so far. It's nice to see Montreal playing well again. New York has been playing decently, mostly due to the fact that Jagr decided to show up and play for the NHL again. Some teams that have been disappointing have been St. Louis, Chicago and to a lesser extent Pittsburgh.

My Flyers are second in the Atlantic division, but have played the fewest games of any team. Still they've played some games where they just gave the game away, so they need to finish better or learn to dominate enough early so their lead won't be in jeopardy with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd. They play tonight on OLN, you know the hunting network with the shopping mart logo.

A serious upside for me is Simon Gagne. He had his second career hat-trick in his last outing and leads the lead in goals and has played the fewest games so far. If he keeps up his pace and stays healthy he'll have *crosses fingers* 100 goals... I doubt it though.

Wow... The Flames/Canucks game toyed with my emotions like no tommorow.
Flames were:
-Winning
-Losing
-Winning
-Tied
-Won

Good game none the less... 4-3 w00t!
Plus my favorite player (Dion Pheanuf) scored the game winner.

That's because of Staal and Cam Ward. The young guys are driving the team.

It's nice to see Montreal playing well again.

Damn right! If only we could learn how to start playing properly BEFORE the 3rd period. We might be doing well, but we've won almost all our games by one point (something that seems to be so rare in this new NHL).

Some teams that have been disappointing have been St. Louis,

Ya, what's up with that? A lot of people are blaming goalie problems, but I don't think it's that. Theodore's stats suck and Montreal definately doesn't have big time forwards, and we're doing well.

Chicago

Chicago has NEVER been good. EVER.

and to a lesser extent Pittsburgh.

They're actually winning now, so it's not so bad. They have the forwards, but not the defense. You can't win unless you have a balanced team.

My Flyers are second in the Atlantic division.

They're not too bad.

It's weird how people are all saying: OMG! Montreal is #1 in the East! When half the teams haven't played the same number of games as them.

Yeah they had their 8-0 start, but faltered a bit since then. At least for them they won tonight and being third in the conference and playing the fewest in the conference isn't too shabby.

Chicago has NEVER been good. EVER.

Well their last winning season was 01-02, but they really haven't had a good stretch of winning seasons since about the early nineties. And no cups since '61... you know when Kennedy was sworn in.

Who are the brunis?

But seriously since you posted this at 7:35 you may be referring to their 6-3 win over the Penguins. Then again the puck already dropped between them and the Flyers when you posted, and in that case they lost 4-3 in OT.

The Blackhawks will start playing well, now that I've dropped Khabibulin and Daze from my fantasy team.

That is one of the certanities of the game :(

Yeah me too. Like I have said in the past I cant even watch games on TV.
Just to prove my point I was utterly shocked to hear that Patrick Roy had retired.
lol ! I have been to a few Canucks games which rocked my ass off.

So for anyone complaining they can't watch 2 or 3 teams at once think of me and COOP ! We can't watch any teams

I thought "being caught sleeping" would've done in the Flyers tonight. They were up 2-0 just 4 or so minutes into the game, only to have the Panthers come back and tie it in the first. They went on to trade goals and have the scored tied at 4-4 towards the end of the third.

Refs blew a call and stopped play with a whistle just before a live puck went into the net which would've put the Flyers up. Next thing you know Pitkanen took a penalty with 1 minute to go in regulation and things looked like the Flyers were playing for OT and hoping to hold off a minute of 4 on 3. But out of no where Handzus drops off the puck for Knuble who scored the game winner with just 3 seconds left in the third.

This brings me to my point that the Flyers do need to be more disciplined in taking penalties and need to kill them better as they aren't very good percentage-wise. But then again they do lead the league with like 7 or 8 shorthanded goals.

The Canucks beat Detroit the other day. Bertuzzi is playing well again and Cloutier doesn't appear to be adversely affected by his first concussion. Bertuzzi had three goals and Cloutier made 34 saves on 35 shots. The only Red Wings goal was kicked in by Sami Salo, if it weren't for that happening Coutier would have had the shutout.

Any reasoning behind that statement or are you merely bashing him because you're a Flames fan?

I think Cloutier is an underrated Goalie. He's had a few quality seasons with Vancouver, but he never gets the credit he deserves, because he's in the small market and he didn't get exposure like Kipper did last year with the Flames' run to the finals.
