I saw the goals, but not the fight. Damn nhl.com's friendly highlights.

I'm loving my picking up of Lupol. He's already gotten two two goal games, an assist, and a short handed goal.
I think anahiem will at least make it into the playoffs this year.

And by the way, I catch hockey games on the "Center Ice" package from DirecTV. It's sweet.
Brett Hull retired.
Great career he had. But in this situation I guess it sucks to be you VPoY.
Canucks play tonight against dallas, too bad its pay per view, oh well my dad will probably buy it anyways. Wow hockey night in canada was awesome last night, game 2 was absolutly awesome.

A great player. That makes 5 old stars to retire around the beginnings of 'New Hockey'
Wow.
Did anyone catch the battle of alberta yesterday?
Flames (finally) won thanks to a steller first period and kipper completley kicking ass and saving all of the 33 shot fired on him... Including on where he had to dive across the net and bat the puck out of mid-air...
Keep it up!

Kipper was amazing, I wish we had a goalie like him ;(

Yeah, but I still haven't passed you. Most of my players don't play for a few days now. (slump time)
If anyone here is a Calgary Flames fan, then I've got a deal for you. The 2004 lockout gave me plenty of time to do an audit of my favorite teams and I realized that I couldn't find a reason to be a Flames fan (no offense to the Calgary Flames or their supporters).

Well, anything I compete in, I want to win. I'm not going to give up, even though I'm down in 13th. My team still hasn't hit it's stride... When we do, you lot had better watch out.

Sorry to hear you've turned your back on your team. Who are you going to support now? Canucks? Oilers? Wild? Avs?

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I just couldn't remember the reason why Calgary was one of my favorite teams. The teams that I still support are the Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, and Pittsburgh Penguins. By the way, my #1 favorite team in the NHL has always been L.A.

That's fair enough. But FOUR teams? I make do with supporting the Avs and being a Rangers sympathiser.

I usually can't choose just one favorite, but I normally limit myself to three. When an expansion team was established in Columbus, Ohio, I had to pick them as my fourth favorite, which caused me to re-evaluate the reasons for supporting my favorite teams. This is what I came up with:
I have liked the Los Angeles Kings since 1991 because Wayne Gretzky was my favorite player in the NHL.
I have liked the Pittsburgh Penguins since 1992 because my brother and best friend were Penguin fans and because Mario Lemieux was my 2nd favorite player in the NHL.
I have liked the Calgary Flames since 1994, but I don't remember why.
I have liked the Columbus Blue Jackets since 2000 because I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio.
Because I decided to have only three, the Calgary Flames are taken off the list due to insufficient justification (I can't explain why they're a favorite, so they don't need to be a favorite). Even though Los Angeles seems to have just as little justification, they have seniority because they were my first favorite. The only thing that's currently keeping Calgary on the list is the pennant that my grandmother bought me for Christmas 10 years ago (the one I'm trying to sell on eBay). The same thing happened with the Washington Redskins, but that's the NFL and thus off-topic.
:I have liked the Pittsburgh Penguins since 1992 because my brother and best friend

Yeah me too dude ! They kicked ass in the 2 years they won the cup. I guess after that they didnt kick that much ass cause they didnt get the cup again but Lord Stanely's
is coming back to Pittsburgh. . . .
Some give Jagr a call we need him back ?
HAPPY EASTERHappy EASTERhappy easter
As often as I'm posting here, I might as well join. My teams are:
East - Pittsburgh Penguins
West - Los Angeles Kings and/or Columbus Blue Jackets
Can Pittsburgh take the cup ? Can they atleast take the East ? Will super mario hold up or will rookie of the year Luigi carry the team ?

Good lord, any one see the bruins game on Saturday? That was sickening. I am a bruins fan myself and I am horrified by that game. Its a good thing there were no sharp objects or any guns nearby, or else I wouldnt be typing this right now!

I saw bits of it.
And your horrified by the way Martin Havlat kicked the bruins defenceman (forget name ) I sure hope he gets suspended for that, especially since he also did it January last season.
I feel sorry for the Pittsburgh fans : (
They had so much hype for this season and not a win. Still their team is significantly better though, hell Crosy got 9 pts in 5 games so far.
Contenders & Pretenders
Contenders
1. Vancouver - Just as long Cloutier doesn't fuck up.
2. Minnesoda - I'd hate to say this, but the trap still pwns.
3. Florida - I don't know how far they will go but Luongo will put them far.
4. Ottawa - Havlat, what the fuck are you thinking when you kicked Hal Gill?
5. Colorado - Circle Oct. 27 when Bertuzzi comes to the Pepsi Centre.
Pretenders
1. Calgary - Calgarians, last year was a fluke. That will be the closest you'll ever get to the cup.
2. Toronto - Lindros is gonna get pwned and he' not gonna get back up.
3. Pittsburgh - When they start playing like a team, things will change.
4. Phoenix - Gretzky is on HELL of a player, but he needs to know that everyone on his team isn't as good him.
5. Dallas - When you can't beat Heavyweights like Colorado and Vancouver...
Any opinions... post 'em here.

I still think it's kind of early to sort out "Contenders" and "Pretenders." I say give it about a month or so. I still think the teams need time to gel and get accustomed to the rules changes, as just about every game I've seen so far (which isn't all, but a bunch) have had around 20 or so mins in penalties at least.
Any opinions... post 'em here.
We usually do, as this would be the place to do it if its about the NHL.
By the way, I've checked out your previous posts, and you might want to cut down on pic spamming the Canucks logo. If you like the Canucks and want to show it in your posts, make or have someone make a signature with their logo in it.

Fernandez and Chouinard are on my fantasy team, they'll get me points.
3. Florida - I don't know how far they will go but Luongo will put them far.
Luongo will pwn most of the league this year.
4. Ottawa - Havlat, what the fuck are you thinking when you kicked Hal Gill?
If Hasek stays healthy, they've got cup credentials
5. Colorado - Circle Oct. 27 when Bertuzzi comes to the Pepsi Centre.
I'm waiting for that game weith baited breath.
Pretenders
1. Calgary - Calgarians, last year was a fluke. That will be the closest you'll ever get to the cup.
Um, didn't they win it in 1989?
2. Toronto - Lindros is gonna get pwned and he' not gonna get back up.
It's not a case of if, it is when he gets concussed. Whoever does it will be on the sidelines for ages though
3. Pittsburgh - When they start playing like a team, things will change.
But with such wholesale changes, it could take a whole season for them to gel.
4. Phoenix - Gretzky is on HELL of a player, but he needs to know that everyone on his team isn't as good him.
I bet he gets the Coyotes above .500 this year
5. Dallas - When you can't beat Heavyweights like Colorado and Vancouver...
Well, the Stars were great when they had people like Belfour etc, but they've got Modano and not much else.
Yeah Pittsburgh cant win any games at the moment but it is the begining of the season so give them time. I wish Mario was like the Mario of yester years but he aint.
They are my fave team in the east so I hope they do good but now that you think about it I don't believe in miracles especially when they are lead by a NHL noob and their owner.
I am burning in hell for saying that. . .call Jagr's agent get him back.

The Rangers are living on cloud nine with this deal. Jagr is playing reasonably well and they are exempt from the salary cap Re: his contract. Whatever they pay him counts as EXTRA

Wait a minute, Jagr plays for the Rangers now? Last time I saw him in action, he was with the Washington Capitals. By the way, when did the Calgary Flames start using that fiery horse's head as a logo? I've always liked the flaming C better.

Gee, you ahve been out of the loop for a long time. He was traded to the Rangers in 03-04 and Washington / NYR foot his massive $10mil per year contract between them. I think it's about 60-40 in favour of the Caps.
By the way, when did the Calgary Flames start using that fiery horse's head as a logo? I've always liked the flaming C better.
The horses head is the third jersey icon. At least they've got a 3rd jersey that looks decent. The Avs' 3rd Jersey sucks.
I am totally out of the loop and I have admitted that publically here. I am not fortunate enough to be able to watch any NHL games on TV. I just comment on what I read from the net. Or from what I hear from other people.
I also had no idea that Jagr played for the rangers now. I too thought he was still with
Washington.
Do the Canucks still use their 3rd jersey ? It was some ugly salmon color if I remember correctly.
ok and now go easy on me people. . . . I just read that Patrick Roy retired but it wasnt recently it was in 2003 . . . . damn ! He is the best there was the best there is and the best there will ever be. I have a signed autographed picture of him . . . .

Yeah, he was a great goalie. I think the here and now belongs to Marty Brodeur and Roberto Luongo however.

Yeah but I wonder how many years Marty has left in him. He is getting up there I image but Luongo is still very young and has many good playing years left.

I still think Marty's got at least another 3-4 years in him. Luongo may have another 10-12, but I still think the rule changes suit them best. Now that Marty can do a 'hail mary' pass all the way to the offensive blueline.
