I think this guy has missed a beat with the Avs, the Coytoes and the Capitals. He has rated the Avs as being silly for getting rid of Forsberg and Foote, while bringing in Turgeon and Brisebois. Getting rid of Forsberg is a nessecary evil, to keep the talented young core of the team. I think the Avs' only concern is netminding (and then it's only back up.)

Coyotes: They ahve signed Gretzky and a whole host of new coaching staff for the new building. Yes, they also have a gaping hole in net, but they did sign Brett Hull, did they not, which gives someone to train the young members of that squad and train them well.

Capitals: They didn't really need to resign anyone, since they were all traded away before the lockout. They did need to trade for a decent first line, to go with Ovetchkin and what will be the rest of his team, someday.

Why in the hell are they are in the same ranking?

Since they don't have a lot of teams for each city, they grouped them all together for the purpose of the rankings. Nothing to get over-excited about.

Seems the ducks scored better than the other two California teams. I hope Giggy can keep it together and that they can get the season off to a solid start. They always seem to pick up the play after the season is mostly spent.

LOL...Toronto Maple Leafs: 2/5. I think it was best that they didn't try and resign Roberts and Nieuwendyk. They need to bring up the younger players and give them a shot. It may take a year or two, but these young kids will finally have their chance to shine now that some of the "old guard" are gone. Plus, they re-signed Tie Domi. That makes me a happy fan.

Tie Domi > Jesus

I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was.

Now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

I think the best LOL about Toronto happened today. They signed Eric Lindros to a one year contract. If he plays well, it'll be the best deal this season (like all the other deals we've seen) but I suspect he won't.

I figure that he'll play as well in Toronto as he has previously in New York, that is if he stays healthy. Still, did anyone see the press conference? Is it just me or does anyone else think he looks like he aged a bit more than he should've during the off year?

Response to NHL Hockey Fan-Club 2005-08-11 20:17:47

i cant believe we let Roberts and Joey go. Joe was our whole team during the playoffs. and i dunno bout Lindros, i think we have a habit of signing one year deals with veterans who get the fans excited then dont really do much AHEM Ron Francis.

I don't know. Like Phileeguy said, it's all about him staying healthy. He had thirty-two points in thirty-nine games last season. Of course, he was plagued by injuries then. If he can just stay healthy, I'd imagine that he could fill the void that Owen Nolan didn't get much of a chance to fill: being a power forward. He still has a aggressive side to him, racking up sixty penalty minutes in his thirty-nine contests.

The guy is done hes had 9 yes thats right 9 concussions... and Owen Nolan is going you just know it the leafs cant trade him until hes heathly ( had knee surgery july 25)
but Nolan costs way too much hes gone.

What, he was wearing slippers?

Where did Nolan go? Did he stay in Toronto (I guess not, by what you say.) Lindros is a powerful guy (or he was) and it's all about his ability to help the team do well. He'd make a great third line centre. just helping a couple of young wings break into the NHL.

He'll find a home, he's too good not to. After all, Lindros found Toronto (He'd been trying to get there for years though.)

Phoenix sign Curtis Joseph. This means that even if they make the palyoffs, they're fucked. CuJo doesn't have the bottle to play playoff hockey.

Also, the Avs re-sign G David Aebischer. He's going to get better, the more he plays.

Yeah, but GAA isn't the most reliable of stats when it comes to looking at goalies. I prefer to look at the save%, which tells us how many shots that came at him he let through. Detroit didn't conceed many shots, but he still let them in.

I don't think he can hack it in the playoffs, the pressure is too high.

Well, if you haven't heard, it's official now; Comcast's OLN will now air NHL games.

They are scheduled to televise at least 58 regular season games, as well as some playoff matches. Also Comcast will have Video on Demand, HDTV, and streaming broadcasts available.

As for your local games, here's a little C+P:
"Comcast will have the ability to carry and/or syndicate additional games on Comcast's regional sports networks where it has the consent of the local team and team's rights holder."

I don't know about your areas, but I think mine will be okay as the majority shareholder of the Flyers IS Comcast.

I'm not sure how many of you (I'm assuming most) know about Dobio's fantasy dealie, so hurry and sign up. :)

If you by some chance DON'T know, run a bbs search for hockey. The thread's called "Yahoo Fantasy Hockey" or something similar.

I've signed up and I'm a bit miffed about having to pre draft rank all the players I want, otherwise I'll get no-one, as all the good players will be gone by the time I get there (the draft is at 3 am my time)

Yeah, I told Dobio that was lame. Try and see if you can get it earlier or on the week before or after.

I'm not sure who got the better deal there. All depends on how Heatley performs out there, really.

I would think Atlanta got the better of that deal. Sure they traded away a very good young player, but Hossa is no pushover and De Vries seems to be a competent defenseman. Let's not forget they still have Kovalchuk.

Plus the fact there's 2 good players as opposed to one (potential) superstar.

Some interesting names on this list.....

Namely on the Devils' list:

Patrik Elias, Jeff Friesen, Brian Gionta, Scott Gomez, Viktor Kozlov, Jamie Langenbrunner, Colin White.

These are seven players I'd have expected to have signed up with someone by now.

Ease off the pot / alcohol / other drugs before typing please.

I have NO IDEA as to who's going to win it all. More in depth analysis coming after about a month of regular season to see who's playing well and who isn't.

2 major retirees announed recently. Scott Stevens and Vincent Damphousse. Both great players and they should be hall of fame bound at some point.
