Yea srsly. Who would want to overpay for an aging centre whose had decreased production for several years and an uncaring and lazy attitude about hockey for his entire career. Not to mention he's already getting 4 mil per season from the isles. The nhl doesn't need selfish garbage like that.

Well, I never saw this one coming, but I hope they got a bargain for him. Anything around the $1-3 million mark should be a nice wage to get him tied down to. If he can recapture the form he (briefly) showed for the Avs, he might be able to ressurect his career.

Click it and read it, then give us your opinions of the move. Alternatively, don't

One of the embodiments of "player power" (or so he wished, lol), Yashin made his biggest impact on the NHL, by refusing to play for the final season of his Senators contract and demanding a trade. He spent the 1999-2000 season on the sidelines, training in Swizerland and then was forced to return to the Senators in 2000-01. The best ting he ever did for the Senators was to enable them to acquire Zdeno Chara in the subsequent off-season.
781 points in 850 games. Not spectacular, but not particularly bad numbers, he let it go to his head and I don't think many of the fans will ever wonder "Whatever happened to Alexi Cashin?"
Igor Grigorenko might be reunited with Pavel Datsyuk!
I'm exited... you guys think he will do has good as in the World Championships?

yeah i know i have to click on it im stupid tit cul
I have to say, I like that they rescheduled the seasons so that teams from the east coast will play in the west coast and vice versa. I just hope they actually find some zebras that actually know the rules of the game.

Klowe offered put an offer sheet out to RFA Dustin Penner of the ducks. :'(
So, now selanne or Niedermayer needs to officially announce their plancs now so they ducks can retain/release him.
Even if the oilers get him, though, the Ducks signed him as a free agent out of college.
Not a bad price to pay for a firsty, second rounder, and a thirdy

Just give it time, he's likely to give in to the dark side in the near future.
The NHL and ESPN are in discussions about bringing the league's games back to ESPN2 as soon as the 2008-09 season. Multiple sources described the conversations as preliminary. The two started talking the week of July 16 when the NHL approached ESPN about NBC's nine-game regular-season ...
Praise the Lord.
NHL 08 commentators are the same for NHL 07.
Now you won't hear them repeat the same things often.

More broadcasters = more hockey coverage, I like this move.
Will the Sharks ever win a Stanley Cup in my life time? They always lose in the playoffs.

I'd probably wait like ..6 years.
They happen to be on the same up cycle as the ducks, which is unlucky since the ducks generally have better young players, a better defense and better goaltending.
The Kings are going to rise to prominence within the next 2-3 years, and they look to be very scary. Frolov, Camm, Kopitar, even Brown.

I want them to win but like i don't know if they will ever win one?

Live VPoY says, let them build up. They've got the foundations of a good young team in place and they can certainly win games. They are taking steps in the right direction.
-- The Edmonton Oilers officially brought in left wing Dustin Penner on Thursday, signing the restricted free agent to a five-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but TSN of Canada reported that the deal is worth $21.25 million.
However, the reigning champs apparently could not afford to re-sign Penner, who inked an offer sheet with the Oilers as a Group II restricted free agent last Thursday.
Had the Ducks decided to match the offer, they would have exceeded the $50.3 million salary cap. Instead, Anaheim receives Edmonton's first-, second- and third-round picks as compensation.
Penner, 24, established Anaheim's rookie scoring record with his 45 points last season and finished fifth in scoring among all rookies.

Well who expected burke to keep penner?
It was obvious he wasn't going to. He was right Kevin Lowe is fighting to keep his job by ruining the oilers.

I think this would hgave been a good signing for the Oilers, but for a first, second and third round pick, this is going a little far.
I was actually quite happy that Burke didn't match.
It was great watching Penner, but at the end of the day, they signed him at a minimum salary out of college and developed him for only two seasons. Didn't even have to use a draft pick on him, and they get 3 picks that will likely be in the top ten in a fairly deep draft from Lowe.
In addition to that, the Ducks have a much more skilled, higher end power forward potentially joining the team next year in Bobby Ryan.
And when you consider that Penner was in Carlyle's doghouse for pretty much the entire season, to the point where he was benched for an entire third period in the playoffs and the ducks come out ahead on this one by a mile.

You think they're making steps forward to trying to contend and then they still fail. They're not quite the Cubs of the NHL, I'll leave that to the Blackhawks, but they're mighty close :P
Not to mention they make a home game at HSBC Arena (Sabres) seem like Tom Golisano moved the franchise to Toronto so that Toronto now has two franchises.
