I heard that 04/05 contracts won't be hounerd and there's some gay system which means that teams could lose may star players.

If the Flames lose Iginla or Kippersoff I shall cry....

Alot.

And so beginneth the merry-go-round that is the pre-season. Boston only has 4 (count them - 4) players on their roster, so they've gotta do some serious dealing.

The Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes shall be decided in the near future. I call the Hurricanes for him.

Detroit has the most horrible challenge: Getting a squad together from what they have left plus about $23million. Not a lot of manouverability.

IT'S OFFICIAL!

Hockey's back! And it's got a new look.

We should all be happy, especially the Pittsburgh Penguins fans, who won the Sidney Crosby Sweepstakes and will pick first.

Either that, or trade for decent players and let someone else have his glory.

Hockey is popular, but since it is still the off-season, there is little to post about. Pittsburgh have won the rights to sign Sidney Crosby and that means a potent 66-67 punch (Marion being 66, Sidney being 67.)

Steve Yserman entered into dialogue with the Red Wings today, possibly remaining as their captain for the next season.

Colorado have confirmed Joe Sakic and Rob Blake (possibly leaving Peter Forsberg and Adam Foote in the hockey wilderness)

Jaromir Jagr doesn't want to come back and play for the Rangers, apparently. I say the new rules will make him one of the most potent players again, ready to dominate the league.

I also think the fact that hockey wasnt really played also had something to do with it... I'm suprised that once the lockout or whatever its called ended people werent all excited and started posting in here...

Thanks nightmareLeecher for the sig.

Jeff O'Neil traded to the Maple Leafs. I'm surprised, as I'd have thought the Leafs were trying to bring their salary DOWN to meet the cap.

Do you guys think that the Flyers will do good this year with Forsberg? I mean, he IS 32 years old...

Yeah, but he is still one of the best players in the league. I'm going to give it about a month into the new season, to test the water and check my start of year predictions against the newer 'how things are turning out' predictions, after we see how the dust settles.

Who wants to join me with that? We'll put predictions in at around October 1st and then re-predict at Xmas.

You know, I don't know why I haven't posted in here at all yet. I could blame it on the lockout, but that's no excuse because hockey does kick ass... shame on me.

So, if you guys don't mind, I would like to join this fine establishment here. I see that I should post my favorite team from each conference, so from the west it would be the Calgary Flames, and if you couldn't tell already my eastern fav is the Philly Flyers.

So this isn't just an introductory post, I figure that I would give some local insight into the recent Forsberg/Roenick movement. Basically this story and anything related to T.O. have been dominating the sports scene here recently, which is a nice distraction from the stinkin Phillies. Anyways back to hockey.

Roenick is a premier player and it's sad to see him go, as he is arguably today's face of hockey. I'm just glad his movement was well done by all parties. GM Bob Clarke gave Roenick his choice of possible teams, and Roenick left with good wishes towards Philly fans and the Flyers organization. He even stated that adding Forsberg was good for the team, even if it meant him leaving.

In other news, I just noticed Sidney Crosby was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno earlier tonight. So all of you westerners can still catch him I think.

Yeah, I was touched when he said Philly needed a championship and would porbably do better with Forsberg rather then him. Anyway, I cant wait for the new season to start. I've missed hockey.

Neidermayer ended up at Anaheim, re-united with his brother as a Duck. I think the Canucks will go forward with the Sedins, rather than back. They've got talent plus the salary cap would enable the team to be built around them.

Much like the Avs are doing with Sakic, Blake, Tanguay and Hejduk.

It's good to see scott and rob together. And the Ducks have a coach again, so I have some hope for them this season.

I saw a bit about hockey on espn when they mentioned that Roenick went to the kings.
He said something along the lines of, "Yeah, it's good that the brothers are together, but we'll still kick their ass"

I figured I should probably try and join this club since I am in dire need of talking about hockey. Favourite teams are the Toronto Maple Leafs in the east and the Vancouver Canucks in the west.

Awesome news for Canucks and Coyotes fans today. First, the NHL lifted the suspension on Todd Bertuzzi effective immediately. Let me be the first to welcome him back to the league. The second bit of good news comes from Phoenix where Wayne Gretzky has been named the Coyote's new head coach. He'll still retain his ownership in the club as well, but he will now focus on the coaching rather than management.

I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was.

Now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

I don't think he should have come back JUST yet. give him a few games to sit on the sidelines, as his suspension only lasted about 20. Steve Moore's punishment must go on for a while yet.

I'm really encouraged that Gretzky has made the next step of his illustrious career. I'm interested to see how this affects Brett Hull, who was a Coyote, last time I looked.

But he also missed the World Cup and two World Championship tournaments. I think the whole Bertuzzi thing was blown out of proportion. I mean, sure it was a brutal sucker punch which did deserve a suspension, but the severity of it was too much. It wasn't even the punch that did the spinal cord damage to Steve Moore, it was the 8 200+ pound guys that jumped on his back after Bertuzzi that did the damage.

He did miss the Cup and tournaments, but he was supposed to miss the 04-05 season as well. He did, but then so did everyone else. In a way that kind of lessens the severity in my opinion because in essence his punishment was less meaningful. He was supposed to sit out while everyone else was playing and getting paid for the game he (hopefully) loves. I don't think another season of him sitting out to make up for last is in order though, maybe a month.

Yeah, but if Bertuzzi Hadn't jumped on Moore, then he'd still be playing today.

I'm in agreement with that statement. I think another month or two is all we need from him, because otherwise it looks too lenient.

(nice segway there huh?). Unfortunately the last Cup winners are from their worst sportstown listed.

I couldn't find a list solely for hockeytowns, but find where your city is ranked.
