He's been around for a while - it's not like he pulled a Brad Keselowski and just sprang up from nowhere to steal the win.

You know that if the race had one more lap, Jr. was all over him. I've seen less aggressive White Van drivers on the motorway, the way he made a lane for himself and drove by Bowyer, Truex and Edwards.
Anyway, the attention turns to Fontana for the Auto Club 500 this weekend. A 2 mile oval, setting us up for the intermediate season, so look to see who's really put together a good package for this season over the next few weeks.
Don't get too used to this, but Not only is Jimmie Johnson not in the Chase field at the moment, he's barely in the top 35. </smug>

Just needed to be dusted off and polished a bit.

Yep, the first real race sans restrictor plates.
Better put your smug face away this week since I think Johnson has this one; even with McMurray starting from the Pole.

Yeah, racing weekends get this sorted ;)

Brad Keselowski - you know, the new Tony Stewart. A talented driver that wins races by bullying his way to the front. Watch the final laps in the Nationwide race - he wrecked another one coming to the finish line.

And Jr's qualifying has returned to normal. 27th place, but we're not that big a fan of Fontana.

Yeah, 7th place is very good for him and we'll watch the 48 jump straight back into chase contention today.

Ah the guy who spun out and gave Johnson the needed caution to capture the lead and secure the win. Gotcha. :)

Yep, it looks to be a long season for everyone else. At least I'm glad the Mark Martin got a top five finish.
Las Vegas I think is next which is always a fun one to watch.

2 races down, one episode of bad luck. Busted axle, just from trying to pull away from pit road. Perhaps we got a duff batch, since Jimmie let go at Daytona?
Oh well, I'd rather have the "bad luck" on the races that Jr is particularly shite at. Perhaps we'll have a change of fortune at Vegas?
I'm starting to believe there might be a golden horseshoe up his ass like Harvick suggested. :P

If anyone could, it was Johnson.

It's not entirely beyond the realms of possibility. I think that with how this will pan out, there are some encouraging signs from the 88 crew, so I'll just hope that we can put together a good car at Atlanta. Traditionally a good circuit for Dale Jr, so my confidence is not necessarily through the roof, but we'll have a good indication for the year with this next run.

Hmm I don't know about that. Junior hasn't won in Atlanta since 04 so it's obvious hasn't been too good for him. If I had to put some money on a favorite, I would pick Carl Edwards. This track seems to be pretty good to him (three wins and six top 5 finishes, career).
All in all I'm pretty pleased so far that Mark Martin is doing well. I hope he can keep the momentum going as the season progresses.

Better numbers there for Jr. than at Fontana :P

Well, 2 Hendrick cars in the Chase as we speak and with Jeff Gordon being 3 points shy and Jr. being 19 points away from passing Kyle Busch, we're looking at a better season than last year. Of course, with each race, we'll see a clearer picture emerging.
Dear Edwards,
If you are trying to wreck someone in order to send a message, don't be obvious and send them into the fence. Plz thx.

It's a good job you guys drive on the left hand side of your cars - English cars would have resulted in a fatality here! That's never good.
Brad Keselowski - model driver of the year 2010.
But I echo the sentiments of Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds, as we need some downforce improvements, with the rear spoiler, as opposed to the wing. Too many airborne cars these days, which is never a good thing, even if these aero improvements make the cars look worse in my opinion.
Also, kudos to the 88 team for coming from 2 laps down to finish 15th. Salvaged a decent day out of what looked like a repeat of 2009 trash. Only 7 pointsd outside the chase now and things are looking better for this team already.
Well, congratulations to Jamie McMurray for proving once and for all that any success he has whatsoever is a complete and total fluke and not to be mistaken for skill. 5 races in and he's already dropped down to 15th in the standings after winning the Daytona 500. Kinda funny he leads NASCAR in winnings right now even though if the season ended today he wouldn't even be in the chase. Ugh. I need to find a new driver to like. This guy has been killing me since about the time I made this account. :/

It's a curse - the 500 Winner is going to fail, unless by fluke his name happens to be Jimmie Johnson :P
Another bum season for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the 88 team. Where did it all go wrong, as he had such a promising young career and now that's just a distant memory.
5 in a row? This is why I don't watch hardly anymore. BOOOOORING.

I wouldn't say that this one was boring. Jimmie Johnson seems to be proving his mortality, as people are getting closer to him once more.
I just hope for a better season for the 88 bunch next year.

Well honesty I would like to see a better all around preformance from them as well as the 24 team. While i'm mainly a Jeff Gordon fan I can't help but look at the 88 team and hope that things get better in seasons to come for the Hendrick driver. But congrats to Jimmie on 5 in a row.
When life gives you lemons, be glad it didn't give you herpes.
Yeah it was a closer year than usual, but McMurray won the damn Daytona 500, then turns around and finishes 14th in the points. Added to the boredom factor a little bit. I need to get a new favorite driver.
I am in!, The only thing that i love Nascar!, So i decided to join this Nascar Club!

I don't really follow the racing scene...but I do try to read about NASCAR and F1 when I have the time for it.
On a side note, I just gotten my racing licenses (PCA Club Racing and Solo II) the other day. Excited about it, took me numerous racing classes to actually get the licenses. In fact, I'm gonna go take a car for a quick spin this weekend...just to celebrate me having the license cards, lol.

Another year and another Daytona 500. Yesterday Nationwide race was a little fun with an engine being shot through the catch fence. I had not doubt the wouldn't stop the 500 for something over that but it still is worrisome that a tire can land in the upper part of the grandstand.

I'm bringing this shit back from the dead because I somehow found myself watching a ton of NASCAR last year and I plan on continuing that in 2024. I even went to a race in Virginia last summer and want to go again in a few months.
Any of you modern peeps keeping up with the sport?

In the 20 years since that post, I have done the exact opposite. I watch F1 now and don't care about NASCAR lol.

You and a lot of Americans, sadly. Those Bush years were the peak of NASCAR's popularity. It's been a slow decline ever since.
I blame the stupid playoffs system that NASCAR keeps around.
Anyways, go Joey Logano. Keep stumbling ass backwards into wins when it matters most!

Yeah I wasn't a big fan of the playoffs or race stages. But NASCAR has also had shit marketing over the last 15 or so years. We went from Earnhardt, Earnhardt Jr, Gordon, and several other legends, to like, Kyle Busch. Hard to care about it.
I will give a shout out to Ross Chastain and SVG though. Those dudes put on a show.
