I had to watch the highlights 3 or 4 times just to make sure the puck went in before the buzzer.

It was really close. Though at least this proves why the bonus point works. If there hadn't been a bonus point, Chicago would have left the game with no points, which they didn't deserve at all.

indeed! In that case you are right....

But what a come back from Detroit! It was 0-2 with 40 sec left of the clock... Empty net (now you see it may works even when you are behind by 2 goals)... boom goal and at 7sec from the buzzer second goal.... and at the last second of OT... GOAL!

Which game is better: NHL 06 by EA Sports or NHL 2K6 by 2K Sports? They're both $29.99 at MediaPlay.com and I need to choose quick if I want to buy one before Media Play goes out of business.

I prefer NHL 2K6, it seems to move faster and have better play. Although it doesn't have the tracks that ea puts into it's games, it has it's own subpar collection of songs. Although I doubt you buy a game for the backround music.

At least he or his family knew that something was going on and he went to get help. It's odd, perhaps its the more liberal (no e-mails please) nature in Europe and Canada, but you really don't hear too much about substance abuse in hockey compared to the other 3 major team sports.

I think it's because hockey is generally a much cleaner sport. Adding muscle mass in hockey quickly doesn't often help, either. Most times it ends up making you bulky and slower.

and in recent Elias news:
Dec 29 It's possible that Elias will make his 2005-06 debut on Saturday, when the New Jersey Devils host the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Devils' star has been out all season with hepatitis A.

I'm glad to hear that, since my fantasy offense is crawling along as of late.

And another thing, it occured to me, while Nashville and Detroit do have good clubs, they seemed to have really lucked out this season. Getting to play 16 games total against St. Louis and the Blue Jackets. probably the best division to be in right now.

Did anyone hear about what the Columbus Dispatch is calling an "accidental victory"? Apparently, the Blue Jackets beat the Mighty Ducks 1-0, and that goal was scored by an Anaheim skater into his own net.

Yeah, there was a scramble in front of the net and the puck popped free. Selanne saw it and tried to scoop it in Jiggy's pads. The thing is, Jiggy didn't see, and was not prepared for it. It slipped into the net and the ducks. Which is a shame, because Jiggy had made 40+ saves that night.

heh, I just noticed something fairly amusing. Joe Thorton still leads the bruins in assists and points.

My prediction seems to have been correct, because the Sharks slipped below .500 again.

I saw a news report last night about CT probably bringing NHL back. I'm so excited, as I used to be a huge hockey fan.

Whalers, anybody?

Redemption, thy name is Anahiem. The Ducks took on St Louis. and karma smiled on them as they got that goal from the Columbus game back tonight.

Sykora got a delayed penalty called on him, so Sanford headed to the bench. McAmmond missed a pass and the puck sailed all the way into the Blues net, hit the center. Bullseye.

It was looking like it would be the game winner until the blues turned it on in the third and climbed back into it. After a thrilling third period it headed into a shootout, where Carlyle went with the hot hands, who was Chris Kunitz. Kunitz, who only has 11 points this season scored twice in regulation, and put in the lone goal in the shootout to lift the ducks.

side note: with tonight's win, every team in the western conference has won a shootout.

the Ducks have not had consecutive wins since late November. They haven't had consecutive losses, either. They've traded wins and losses for quite some time, and that trend doesn't look like it'll change as they face the West's best home team tomorrow in Tennessee.

Fantasywise, I made up for some lost time. Climbing back into 13 after I dropped out for a short time. I'm still crawling along.

I don't play online :\ but I
m raping some shit in the game. I created a team, the Houston Jackals and they're speedy devils. The difficulty I play is All-Star although I'm starting to dominate teams, so I may step it up.

My lines are:

!st Line:
LW Naslund
C: Joe Thorton
RW: St. Louis
2nd Line
LW Kovalchuk
C Balej (he's a rookie enforcer with a high rating)
RW Alfreddson
3rd Line:
LW Samsonov
C Lecavalier
4th Line:
LW Kapanen
C Marleau
RW Mogilny

Defense:
1st line
Pronger, S. Neidermayer
2nd line
Gonchar, Foote
3rd line
Blake, Vishnevski(he checks well, sue me)

I have luongo and kipper in the nets.

In the real hockey world, last night saw the ducks come back from a 2-0 deficit and double up on the best home team in the west in 4-2 win over the Preds.

Today had some surprises, most notably Atlanta romping all over the Sens in an 8-3 win. Slava Kozlov pick up a hat trick and an assist.

St. Louis defeated the Canucks 4-1 giving them their tenth win. Sillinger had 2 goals an an assist. Weight had a goal and two assists.

I pity the Sens next opponet, as they're in for an angry team.

The only guy who has a proper balance is Marty Brodeur, because he's too old to be youth and not old enough to be 'vastly experienced' though he does have a great deal of experience.

Oh no, Gooch has surged past two people and is right on my ass in fantasy hockey. =(

Well, there were a few shutouts today which leaves me with a large sad face since my top two goal getters as of late were on the receiving end.=(

Elias did make his return today, and for that I am grateful. He picked up an assist in his first game back

and, the avs had a good goal tending performance. FINALLY. They shut out the ever streaky preds 3-0 behind aebischer. That's the 5th loss in a row for Nashville. While they may be in the playoff picture, you can't ride streaks through the playoffs. They need to start getting more consistent in their efforts.

It felt really wierd to watch the highlights and hear the crowd chanting 'Abby, Abby!' Still, kudos to him, he's come up with a shutout against an average team. Now he needs to begin building up for a run at the playoffs as a member of the Avs, to prove he's needed instead of another goaltender.

This helped my NGHL efforts, as Abby gets 8 pts for the shutout and Tanguay gets 3 for his goal and assist.

Oh sweet Jesus, the Stars game nearly made me shit myself laughing. And because of the actual game.

The announcers seemed to not have been told that they didn't actually go to commercial, and were broadcast singing and talking like jackasses. At one point, the camera spanned on two hot young ladies. The play-by-play announcer said "Oh, nice. How about you put those puppies back in their holsters" The second intermission was FULL of them doing that.

The game itself wasn't all that entertaining until about the last 8 minutes, where the impentrable Auld sprung a leak and allowed 3 goals en route to a 3-1 Dallas victory.

Is there any link to this broadcast? It sounds like the women were decent looking as well, so please find one for me :)

Looks like you're outta luck, I caught it on my center ice package =D

Well, Elias is back.

Tonight he put in 2 goals and added two helpers in a four point night for a win over the Canadiens 5-4

The Sens played the Bruins and for some reason, Boston seems to be giving the eastern powerhouse a problem. First, Boston gets a shout, ending Heatley's points streak, and tonight, they defeated them again on a goal from rookie Brad Boyes.
They're the only team in the northeat who have conquered the Sens.

Colorada added some cushion to their playoff spot with a 4-2 win over division rival Minnesota.

The struggling blues continue to struggle with a shutloss to the Red Wings.

Cheechoo picked up his 2nd hat trick in 3 weeks in a 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets.

And you probably gained a lot of fantasy points on me too, didn't you? I figured that I gained about ten or eleven tonight. This is what I got:

Win from Alex Auld.
Win from Marty Brodeur.
Shorthanded Goal from Nolan Baumgartner.
Assist from Scott Thornton
Assist from Robert Lang.

I didn'g get crap from guys like Prospal, Kotalik, and Arnason. However, this has probably been the best my fantasy team has done all year in a one or two week span.

Haha, sorta
Sakic didn't cash in for me, sadly, but I got.

Assist From Westcott

2 goals, 1 assist, one powerplay assist, from Elias

Goal from Prucha

PP GWG from Boyes.

My Blues players who've been hot as of late got shutout, and rookie D-man foster didn't pick up anything in his teams' losing effort.
And Esche has yet to return and play =(

My goaltending is dipping, big time. First, labarbara goes on a slump and loses his starter jub with the kings, then Weekes loses all of his starts for NY. His train for challenging the #1 spot is almost out of steam.
My only good spot is that Gerber is playing very well.

Only on thursdays.

and not on the 19th of this month

Oh well, I'll have to find something else to keep me occupied then.

Colorado added some cushion to their playoff spot with a 4-2 win over division rival Minnesota.
Cheechoo picked up his 2nd hat trick in 3 weeks in a 6-3 win over the Blue Jackets.

These two factors helped me get a 23-point night, moving me up to 9th in the league.

But Gooch has a point. Brodeur is arguably one of, if not THE best goalie in the NHL. He's had a sub-par year, because the rules changes have clamped down on one of his favourite areas (the corners) when he wandered out of the net.

Not only that, but the Devils as a team do not seem to be as good as previous years what with the loss of many veteran players. Right now the season is only half over and the olympics are coming up. A break in the season is probably exactly what the Devils need as a team.

My Flyers are on fire and are the first team to reach 60 pts (although some clubs do have a game or two in hand) and have gone 7-0-1 on their current 11 game road trip. I'm definately going to see if I can get some tix to their first home game after the trip and personally welcome them home.

Atlanta Thrashers goalie Kari Lehtonen, of Finland, blocks a shot as Pittsburgh Penguins' Mark Recchi (8) waits for a rebound during the third period of an NHL hockey game in Atlanta, Friday, Jan. 6, 2006. Atlanta won, 6-4.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Ilya Kovalchuk had quite a night for the Atlanta Thrashers: He picked up a hat trick, took over the NHL's goal-scoring lead and even got a chance to taunt Pittsburgh rookie Sidney Crosby.

Kovalchuk scored his third goal into an empty net with 44 seconds left Friday, clinching a 6-4 victory over the Penguins that nearly slipped away. The Thrashers built a 5-0 lead through two periods, then gave up four straight goals in the third.

But, after Pittsburgh pulled goalie Marc-Andre Fleury, Kovalchuk lingered at center ice, took a pass from Marc Savard along the boards, and raced the other way to score his 30th goal of the season into an unguarded net.

Kovalchuk celebrated by sliding along the ice on one knee, pumping his fist.

"You are always excited when you score a hat trick," he said. "There are not too many chances in your career."

Kovalchuk had a different celebration for his second goal, which came after Crosby was sent off with his second slashing penalty of the game. As soon as Kovalchuk scored, he turned and pointed a finger toward Crosby stepping back on the ice.

"He took a stupid penalty," Kovalchuk said. "He's an 18-year-old kid and he's got to learn he can't play like this."

The Penguins were not amused by Kovalchuk's antics.

Spurred on by Kovalchuk, the crowd chanted "Crosby! Crosby! Crosby!" toward the No. 1 draft pick.

Judging by the recap, Kovalchuk doesn't take too kindly to Mister Crosby.

Right after getting a contract extension, Turco let in 3 soft goals.
After Guerin got thrown from the game for a series of penalties from an altercation with The Ducks' Fedoruk and Konopka.
After the first period, Turco got the yank and Hedburg sealed his end of the net to help the Stars come back and win it in a shootout.

Ha, Flames beat the Maple Leafs 1-0 of a weak backhand shot from the blue line by Robyn Regher.

I love it.

If we can beat Vancouver tommorow and the Oilers lose to Toronto then we'll have a six point cushion on first place in NW division.

I Doubt it though seeing how I just jinxed us and where on a streak thats been held together by lucky bouncs going our way
