I love the changes made to the Canadiens coaching staff, and the 6 goals in one period after a long losing streak shows it's a good move. Gainey is awesome, and just gave Ribeiro and Theodore the boost they needed. He also said that Markov, though playing well could do better. 2 goals and 2 assists in the 6-2 win over San Jose..I think he was listening.

Boy, last night was full of dominations.
The sharks got manhandled 6-2
Vancouver crushed the isles 8-1
and Buffalo put on a show in a 10-1 domination over the kings.

That was supposed to be a secret, dear.

Not a lot of hockey today, only three games.

Carolina beat the struggling blues with Cam Ward in net, who gave up two early but held on to lead them to a 4-2 win. The 'Canes now have the most points in the NHL, just a one point cushion on Ottawa, with one more game played. Staal had his first broken tooth in his short career and picked up another hat trick.

Nashville Jumped out to a 4-1 lead over the everslumping pens before Fleury replaced Caron and gave up another before shutting the door. The pens battled back to make it a 4-5 game but couldn't get the equalizer.

Elias played in his first game back from the cold which caused him to miss a game. He was held pointless in regulation but got a shootout goal in a 3-2 victory over the Hawks.

90% of the time a team wins quite disicevly(sp?) after a coach is fired. don't expect it the whole season to continue... Look an NYI. After there coach was fired they beat the Flames and where fully in control of the game and then Vancouver came and kicked the fucking shit out of the 8-1.

And it's not like Vancouver is a better team then Calgary or anything it's just... A team always has a good game after there coach is axed.

I'm sorry, but I was at the game and I can definately say that the Canadiens didn't win because they played well, but because the Sharks were so bad that night. It's nice to see people giving a boost to Theo (especially after fans chanting in the first period, "Huet Huet"), but the fact is: Theo was REALLY shaky in nets. His team sometimes helped him out, but the post shot/misfires of the Sharks were what really made him look better.

Although it's nice to see defensemen score so much in a game, I still think it's worrisome how our defence was more offensive than our forwards.

Hey guys, I was pretty bored so I decided to rank the teams remaining schedules. I'm going on a points system, the LOWER the total, the HARDER the schedule.
I'm doing it based on how teams are ranked standings wise. (Carolina is worth one point, the sens are worth 2, etc) I did it earlier in the day, so Carolina was #1 at the time. I didn't really feel like switching it, and besides, one point isn't SO drastic.

anyway, in alphabetical order.

Anahiem: 515

Atlanta: 528

Boston: 502

Buffalo: 470

Calgary: 622

Carolina: 711

Chicago: 592

Colorado: 578

Columbus: 535

Dallas: 626

Detroit: 622

Edmonton: 602

Florida: 539

Los Angeles: 581

Minnesota: 510

I'll do the second ha;f whenver I feel like it, but I'll use the same statistics I used for this list.
Rembemer, High score: GOOD
Low score: BAD

Welcome. A brother Avs fan, though probably a tad misguided with the Pengins. Who am I to judge?

Colorado: 578

And Colorado aren't. I can't see us dominating the opposition, but we're going to give them a run if they want to beat us.

Montreal: 573

Nashville: 609

New Jersey: 574

New York(Isles): 671

New York(Rangers): 522

Ottawa: 657

Philly: 585

Phoenix: 568

Pittsburgh: 504

San Jose: 559

Side Note: Carolina is actually around the mid 600s, I redid that score and a few others. The Carolina one was the only major mistake.

How come no one's talkin about that uber-goal by Ovetchin a couple days ago? That was just sick.

Yeah, that'll probably overtake the shootout dazzler by Malik as one of the best goals in the league.

Tonight's very busy in the NHL, Carolina has a chance to nab total control over the league, with a possible 3pt lead, a possible 1 point trail, or a possible tie.

Although I don't think a three point lead will happen, since it's the Ducks that the Sens are playing.

Not only is anaheim a poor road team, but they aren't good against the sens historicaly. I can only hope it isn't too painful to watch.

I wouldn't mind visiting here once in a while. I'll post my favorite teams, as asked.

West: L.A Kings
East: Florida Panthers

Well, shit.
The Ducks came in with the worst after regulation record and defeated the sens in a shootout.

The game started with jiggy giving up a terrible goal.
Then the sens sent a one-timer past him, but from then on, he was rock solid.

The period ended with Hasek making sprawling saves during an Anaheim 2 man advantage. The Ducks came into the second and hammered one in.
They picked up two more that period, and didn't allow a single goal in the second.

During the third they went out to extend the lead and failed. It wen back and forth until the ducks got a powerplay with 3:00 left. The ever dangerous sens got an odd man break and tied it with precious little left on the clock.

After a fast paced overtime it went to a shootout, where Kunitz scored and Jiggy was perfect to nab only their 2 after regulation win in 11 tries.

The Sens finish the season 3-2 vs. the pacific division.
Side note: The Ducks have allowed the fewest goals during the second period.

To make things worse for Ottawa, the canes picked up a win over the Isles.

Fantasy wise, I got fucked.

I benched selanne since he's been missing games with a groinstrain, he gets a PP assist and a goal.
I benched Scott Young because he's on the Blues, PP goal, assist.
I benched Erat because he's the least offensive player in my lineup. PP goal
Macdonald also got an assist.

Damn =(
9.5 of lost points. poo

Yeah that was a decent one, but I can't stand how the Flyers are playing right now. They went 8-2-1 on an 11 game road trip, come home where they usually play well, but have lost 4 straight (including the last 1 from the trip) now and its sickening me. It's like theyre having a reversal of fortunes in terms of winning and where they're playing. I'm looking forward to the olympics as it will be a necessary change of pace for the olympians on the Flyers and some needed practice time for the others.

niitymaki is choosing a poor time to slow down, Esche might return soon. Although I have no idea since info on that is slim.

I must have missed it. I was too busy hoping the Avs could make it 9 straight, but alas, we came unstuck at the hands of the Blackhawks.

Oh well, we'll just have to go from 0 again.

Well Flames beat the habs 3-2 last night although the second goal that kipper allowed was so weak. He just let it go by him. There wasn't any traffic infront or anything... just a shot from the blueline and he missed it.

O'well.

Perhaps, but the guy has played like 17 straight and has kept them in many games that they ended up winning when they shouldn't have, so he's gotta be tired. 2 of the last 4 games they lost also came by shootout, which you really can't blame Nitty because he's a rookie goaltender and really hasn't seen much of the players to know what they are going to do when they go 1 on 1 in that situation.

I feel their losses are more at the hands of lack of defense. Desjardins may be old, but he knows how to play a good D game, and Joni Pitkanen plays defense quite well also. But both of them are out and the Flyers are overusing their mediocre veterans and playing defensemen from the Phantoms. That just wont cut it.

Update: Esche will start in goal Saturday against Pittsburgh, the Flyers' website reports.

Recommendation: "They asked me (Friday) if I wanted to play (Saturday) and I said of course. It was that simple," said Esche. Get him back into your lineup, pronto.

Backup Antero Niittymaki may have begun to tire, having started the last 17 games. He has allowed 19 goals during Philadelphia's current four-game losing streak.

Well, Eshe is going to get his chance, and I hope he does well. Especially since he was on a win streak going into his injury

I thought the Pens played rather well in that game against the Flyers today. They may have had a chance to win it if Fleury played a little better. Both of the goals he gave up he was caught cheating and let the short side open in anticipation of passes.

C'mon Kings, don't ice the puck, Corvo could have just gotten out of his zone, he had room. But he shoots it, gets an icing penalty and the Sharks score, and Kings lose in overtime.

So, I'm laughing my ass off right now. The Canucks are playing Montreal and winning 6-0 after fourteen minutes of play in the first period. We've had eleven shots and scored six goals. Montreal pulled Theodore after the fifth goal and we scored on the first shot against the back-up.

Response to NHL Hockey Fan-Club 2006-01-22 03:41:13

Whoo, the Ducks won a 1-0 where the only goal was scored 29 seconds in against the panthers.

That's not to say there wasn't action, it was just a goaltending duel. Both Luongo and Jiggy played incredibly. The commentators were even saying he was playing like he did when he carried the ducks to the Finals.

The highlight of the game had to be when Vishnevski absolutley DEVASTATED a florida player.
He came through the neutral zone and saw Vitaly an instant before he got hammered. He tried to duck the check but leaned right into the oncoming hitter. he hit the ice so hard he bounced about six inches off after impact. On the replay you could see his eyes rolled back in his head as he twitched on the ice. I haven't been able to find a replay though D:
