Stong defensemen and a great goalie pair.

I don't want Mario to carry on playing for too long. His body can't take it and I'd hate to think that he would drop dead on the ice, or something like that.

That might be too far of a stretch for even a Christmas miracle.

btw, I have some concerns about Canada's olympic team. They'll be lacking some leadership with Yzerman pulling out and Mario saying he doesn't want to be picked if his skill isn't on par.

Even with that the Flames are going to have a tough time, they've never faced offensive dominance like this before. Although, they're going to have a few things on their side.

Any idea whats the deal with this Khazakstani guy playing in net for the Avs is? He's putting up some decent numbers for us over his first 2 games.

So who do you guys think is the best rookie this year?

I'm gonna go w/ Alex Ovechkin and im not saying this as a Caps fan... I've seen him play several times this year and hes just amazing... He always seems to be in the right place at the right time, he hits hard despite his small size, and he plays like a pro even though hes a rookie... I think he is probably the Caps best player right now...

Thanks nightmareLeecher for the sig.

The Nominee's will be: Pheanuf, Crosby and Ovechkin and crosby will win it because the NHL couldn't let there oh so hyped rookie saviour lose... Personally I think Pheanuf or Ovechkin should win it...

Yeah. Having Martin Havlat being done for the season couldn't possibly help Ottawa at all.

As for Rookie of the Year, I'm going to cast my vote and say that it should be Ovechkin. He's the only reason that Washington has been kept in any games whatsoever.

Ovechkin is sick, I'm glad to see that it is him who's blowing up and not Sidney Crosby who, though he is quite good, will not be the next Gretzky or Howe.

Actually, Gretzky is paying more of his compliments to Crosby, since he plays more like Gretzky.

His thinking is pass first, pass second, shoot.

While Ovechkin passes only as a last resort.

btw, I think Marek Svatos is a very good rookie who's constantly overlooked

Anyone catch the Canucks/Senators last night? What an amazing game that turned out to be!

End to end action, great scoring chances by all. Awesome goaltending from both Hasek (as usual), and Auld. Nail biter until the end. A shootout, even going to the 4th skater. That, my friends, was hockey as it was meant to be played.

Course, it helps that the Canucks won, and I'm a Canucks fan, but hey, it's all in the wrist.

I mean, honestly. Somebody HAS to score. It takes true talent to lead a team full of great players, instead of a team full of hasbeen nobodies and single-season sophomores.

Are you saying Crosby's bad too?

I expect the flames to win tonight, btw. All of the Sens' are going to be worn out from the long, hard game against the Canucks.

Plus the other things in Calgary's favor.

All ACTUAL all-stars. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Trust me I know we aren't the best team in the leauge... and we definetly don't have the best players (Accept for Iginla and Kipper who I honestly think are the best player and goalie in the NHL) but I do think we have one of the best defense's in the leauge and it was quite evident tonight seeing how we kept the Sens down to 19 shots

He overpowers defenders all the time. Just because he doesn't hit doesn't mean he isn't powerful on his skates.

The rest of the league better watch out.

Though they have been putting on stellar performance, I think they're going to cool off in a big way.

Boy, that Blues Rangers game was, in my opinion, the best of the night.

Especially near the end, when the Blues were down by one with only a small amount of time left.

The blues got in close to weekes, who left a rebound and a pretty open net. A New York player was able to deflect it high when it was smacked down by a blues player.
That shot went wide but landed right in the strike zone of Sillinger, who hit a home run, batting it out of mid-air.

It went to OT where the Rangers scored on a very flukey goal. Rucinsky ripped a rocket of a shot over Lalime. It bounced off of the glass, off of lalime, and in.

Tkatchuk continued to make his presence felt in his return, netting two power play goals for his 13 point in six games.

I like it when people can admit one of my players is good. Thanks.

Though it isn't unfounded, as Svatos is one of the brightest players for the Avs at the moment. He's keeping my fantasy team floating nicely.

I like the fact that Cheechoo is on my fantasy team as well. With the thornton trade, he's getting the boost his flagging offense needs.

Penguins 99% sure of Relocation!

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Penguins owner-captain Mario Lemieux said he is doubtful that the team will remain in Pittsburgh after its Mellon Arena lease expires in 2007, citing a lack of progress on a new arena.

The Penguins are projecting a $7 million US loss this season, a figure that assumes the team will draw near-capacity crowds and advance to the second round of the playoffs.

''I think we're really running out of time,'' Lemieux said. ''We probably ran out of time already. It's been unfortunate that the city and the county haven't been willing to work with us over the last two or three years.''

Lemieux has said for several years that the Penguins would not be able to survive in Pittsburgh without a new arena. Mellon Arena is the oldest and smallest arena in the National Hockey League.

The lease allows the team to solicit offers for the franchise beginning in June 2006. Kansas City is among the cities that have expressed interest in the team.

''We'll sit down with everybody and understand what's at stake for our investment and what's best for the franchise'' when the board of directors is scheduled to meet this week, Lemieux said

Oh snap.
Avs got it hard. I'm happy that they lost so they don't gain any points... but I was kind of hoping ottawa would get swept by the NW division to show people how tough it really is.

Yeah, I read about that on tsn.ca. Its really sad actually. You'd think a team with Stanley Cup banners in its arena would have a fan base that would actually support them. How about moving the team to Hamilton, ON? They've been trying for a while to get a team there. Yeah, that won't happen, but hey I can dream can't I?

On Leafs news...they finally snapped that losing skid they were on by beating the Mighty Ducks 3-2 tonight. I don't know why, but I feel a little more at ease when Tellqvist is in net instead of Belfour, especially as of late. Its like I trust him more now. Bizzare.

Usually, I trust Belfour, but in the past few weeks, he's made some terrible decisions on the ice. He started the season strong and then kind of fizzled out. Since he is the number one goaltender in town, I only hope this is temporary and he snaps out of it soon. As for Tellqvist, I think he just needs more game experience. From what I've seen of him this season, he's performed very well. I mean, even look at what Aebischer did for the Avalanche a couple seasons ago. He brought them right through the regular season with a great record after the departure of Roy, and he's not doing too bad this season either.

Well, at least its not as bad as what's going on in Atlanta. They're on their what...5th goaltender now? They keep getting injured and/or replaced in the AHL. Its a sad state in Atlanta. And speaking of sad goaltenders, Patrick Lalime was recently waived by the St. Louis Blues. Now there's someone whose career has taken a nose dive. Playing for a strong contender like Ottawa then getting waived by St. Louis. That's gotta suck.

I think dropping Lalime was a wise choice. If you guys caught Ottawa's defeat last time they were in the playoffs, lalime gave up two softies.
And he's only gotten worse.
Sanford solidified the decision by posting a shutout over the struggling pens.Tkathuk continued his excellent play by scoring the game winner off of a feed from Sillinger.
