Names
Sometimes I talk to my car parts and call them sweetie.
Also, I named my friends iPod "Romando Francesco Optimus Prime".
Fuck you, YouTube, Fuck you.
So I got my nice, brand spanking' new, MGS2 t-shirt on Friday night when I got back from Germany (was okay, nothing to get too excited about).
That's not the problem.
Today, I wore it to school. Needless to say, only a few people got it, but my friends fucking loved it.
I drug through my classes and finally I got to go home. I got on my bus and I was walking down the aisle when this girl tells me she "had seen that movie on YouTube. I thought it was pretty funny."
I almost spun around and punched her in the fucking face.
I hate YouTube so much, but it's the only place I can find anime, and even then it's still in a bajillion peices, so it's even almost more of a hassle to watch than to enjoy.
"Let's take all the Spongebob and anime off our site, but not people's legitimate work or personal property, like Charlie the Unicorn or Metal Gear Awesome tee-hee :3"
rtil made a much better rant on his dA.
Point being, that shit ruined my normal/quasi-shitty day.

I couldn't agree more. I get so completely pissed off at people like that.
... It's probably the OCD.
Anyways, you should've set her straight. No, not with a punch to the face.
I agree. I asked my friend if he'd ever seen Salad Fingers and he said: "That movie on youtube? Yeah it was pretty good"
I nearly hit him. I hate youtube.
I love you all. I hope nothing bad ever happens to any of you. Ever.
<3
So this morning, I wake up with "The Road" by "Tenacious D" in my head. I pick up my iPod, hit "Shuffle Songs" and I shit you not, the first song that came on was "The Road" by "Tenacious D" .
FUCKING EPIC
Anything that epic ever happen to any of you guys?

Yeah you're right. Thing is, if all the copyrighted stuff was removed from youtube, it'd be a website consisting only out of some video blogs and bloopers.
YouTube
Nearly all the most viewed music is the opposite of my taste in music. Urgh.

Yep, a couple of times, i want to hear a song or have it in my head and then it plays, and i always have shuffle on..
fuck you youtube
I hate it too, i always try to give my friends the links ot newgrounds or to the original site, but they're all like "i'll just search it in youtube' or stuff, a friend saw the whole awesome series in youtube, i told her it was better in newgrounds, the ones in youtube weren't even submitted by egoraptor.. so after a struggle in her computer i forced her to see them all (again) on newgrounds... xD
YouTube
It's unfortunate but thats how the internet is, you cant have all thats good with the internet without getting the bad. You have to figure that the internet is changing and we are no longer masters of the universe. People are gaining greater knowledge about being their own syndicators and companies out there are aware of that rising need and stepping up to the plate and providing people with the means to satisfy the urge. I said it many times before in that NG should have /should provide better ways of syndicating things. If we arent going to provide people a chance to snag and port things then people will find someone else that will. Thats not really youtube's fault or anyone .. you have to change with the demand and if theres one thing i hate about newgrounds is that its slow on every punch. We have some awesome things here and alot of people wont ever find out about them because we are trapped in a bubble of a site.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TOM QUIT BEHEMOTH AND COME BACK TO NEWGROUNDS.
the end.

I kind of want to say you should argue about it, but they probably count it as obscene material...which makes sense to me... still, funny shirt.

lol
In a perfect world, when you upload to the portal, it'd have extra fields or whatever to spit out some code to upload to youtube or place as a self contained module on your blog/site. Maybe NG could build a little shell or watermark or something. The key is that when you are ready to make the debut of your beloved movie, you can knock out two birds with one stone.. YOU can be the one greenlights the syndication.

That's a brilliant idea. New-Tube? You-grounds?
Wouldn't it make sense that Flash Video's wouldn't be compressed as videos any more either? And they would stay in their original vector form? That'd be chill too, but nah.
Also, two girls one cup

I'm pretty sure they have some plans in the works that are moving in that direction, at least some helps to get mass exposure for your stuff.
What I'd really love to see is a wrapper that lets you update versions of your game across all the sites that have stolen it, I hate seeing old versions of my games on other sites when there's a newer shinier version available.
It would require some specific coding tactics, but I think sites like kongregate have proven that artists will do it for the boost in flexibility it would allow.
Syndication
Newgrounds is an island, graced by original games and animations. While there are a few things that come in and out, I don't know if Newgrounds would want to change their relationship with the rest of the web. Things that happen on Newgrounds are original and quirky, making the trip here worth it for that alone.
Does Newgrounds want to join the landmass of syndication and sharing? I don't know, it works as an island I think. But it would be awesome to see what Newgrounds could do outside it's normal comfort range.

I suppose at least people would talk about watching stuff 'on newgrounds' as they do on youtube, but it'll also mean more noobs and emokids ranting about how naruto is better than dbz.
But as Luis said, you can't get the good without the bad.
On other news, i haven't been exactly active lately, but since when do we have a videogame forum? honestly i hadn't noticed it.....

RE: Syndication
I agree with you jmtb in that i like the cool kids table aspect of NG and that you are like in this cool 'undergound' culture and stuff that is free from the tackiness of annoying youtubes and myspace userpages. However with NG evolving and flash taking a greater slice of the entertainment pie on the web i think it is foolish to continue the island aspect of Newgrounds because users are growing more demanding and maybe more lazy in that they dont want to visit your bookmarked game on ng.. they are so excited with your game/movie that they dont want to just give someone a link.. they want to be able to snag it and put it on their youtube/myspace/whatever.. i think the 'cool' thing about that is with the revenue sharing system in place.. you'll be able to monetize some of your things a little better... then maybe just maybe us animators can stop starving.
I do think it'd be important to retrofit things or have some sort of catch all to address issues that bomtoons raised.. game updates, bug fixes and shit is pretty key in a game environment.. if newgrounds had some sort of feature built into its submission process where it would like have a mini sentry attached that would go back and talk to the ng portal and patch games universally when a fix comes in.. something semi-similar to youtube's video player... when they reskin it its just universally fixed

Rich Internet Applications
I was looking at the recently released Photoshop Express, which excited me to view the possibilities. While it does not show anything that I have not seen implemented in Flash before, it does put it all together into a single application with server support. Also, from my test drive, it is horribly slow, which may be due in part to the Flex framework that they used. My personal experience with Flex is that it is easy to implement a nice interface, but the drawback is that the components are quite large; therefore, it ends up passing a longer load and more lag to the user. Combine that with the intensive processing the image application is performing anyways, there is a problem. Ultimately, though, it makes me more eager to see the application/tools that Aviary and others will have available. What are your opinions of these rich internet applications?
RE: Internet Apps
I also find this exciting. I loved (and still love I guess) the old version. Incredible for a flash program. I want to see many more things like this. If you bring programs to the internet, then money doesn't have to be made from selling the product, you make it from sponsorship and advertising. I'd rather see that then poor kids having to shell out hundreds of their parent's dollars just to be creative.

I'm not really here to make a big deal about it and rant for several paragraphs about my inability to backup a saved file, but it's a nice reminder to anyone who is working on something.
Hi there!
Macs backup stuff automatically. Get one! Flash is very slightly cheaper for mac as well.
