Anyone know if winning an Oscar/emmy/grammy/whatever actually equates to cash from the academy behind the scenes? I've always wondered and I doubt anyone is going to answer in toms fp post thread.. they are too busy arguing about Adam Phillips. :(

Actually there isn't a real sum of prize money, its the honor and publicity. However the oscars themselves are worth a fortune, many recipients were found to sell their award for upwards of 300 grand. Now they must sign a contract with the academy that they must consult the academy if they wish to sell their award.

I know that films that win oscars up their overall revenue (just from DVD and ticket sales) by 50-200% on average, I am not sure if the academy gives any cash prize.

The graphics were great...the coding was kind of weak, the coding and or game planning. The archers could always hit you unless you were blocking...like you couldn't jump over the arrows, which intuitively...you should be able to do. Those wolf things attacked too fast, one on each side and you were basically dead unless you hit the lightning. The bosses were pretty good, as far as I got, the blind guy seemed to have way too huge a hit area for each of his attacks. I dunno it wasn't all bad, it was pretty sweet really, there were just some basics that felt over looked and made it aggravating at times.

Mah game got front-page, go me.

I NEED TO KNOW, is that attack by the final boss where the screen goes white completely unblockable? Because I was complaining about the coding and the attacks speeds being ridiculous for the enemies and shit, but I've played a few times and I'm able to deal with that, but I haven't figured out how to block that one attack from the final boss.

Ok I guess I meant stoppable not necessarily "blockable." NOW I KNOW and will return to your ridiculous game and attempt many times over not to get hit. And just btw I didn't mean while he's on the horse, if that's what you're talking about, because your description fits that too. AND I WILL IGNORE the coding of the attacks that I don't agree with because it is more challenging than most games...

would a madness-styled animation with camera angles, a storyline-driven plot, and dramatic action instead of just straight action be accepted? I mean, it is a very different way of animating madness characters, but would people be OK with that? (I will be hand drawing everything and do quite decent animations, so dont worry about the animation portion when you answer)

congrats, really nice game.
why is the score so low?

Games have an inbuilt score divider of x0.86 as a result of not being animations :)

If you're at that stage then you might as well just avoid using Krinkel's style and draw your own characters. There's no point in alienating a large portion of your audience who'll instantly vote zero on anything they see with Madness characters which isn't a straight parody.

I suppose something like that would be true, however the replay factor of games that can be played over again make up for a marginally lower score, in my opinion.

Gamescore vs. Aniscore
Here's how I look at it... games can suck terribly and still swing a 3.0-3.3 easily. However, an animation that sucks equally will be much, much lower... around a 2.5-2.9 I would think.

However, Flash games seem to have this invisible ceiling at 3.9-4.0 that makes it stupid hard to get anything above a 4. Animations seem to have the same sort of ceiling but it seems to get cracked a lot more frequently then games for some reason... could just be because animators rock harder.

Am I right or am I right?

I agree completely. But the sponsorship money for games makes up for the disadvantage over animations. :P

Metal Gear Awesome 2

I liked it personally, made me laugh, and some very funny lines, but i think egorapter is getting a hell of a lot of attention, whilst some other amazing artists are turning to that kind of animation to get higher scores.

Still, a great flash, whats y'all opinions?

Game Score vs Animation Score

I feel that games are very hard to make incredibly fun. If you create animations and the story isn't the greatest, but you're still talented you'll probably get a good review. If you make a game, and you're talented at making them, it's hard to make them super-fun without spending ages and ages on them.

*looks away in shame*

They used to call me souled...

I loved it, but do you all feel it really deserves such a high score?

I wouldn't put it past a four, but then I didn't think it worked as well as the first one. There's too much extended dialogue in it for what's supposed to be manic and random, and it all felt a little contrived. It was still good, but not that good.

It's the wrap around band-aid they give you. It's all bloody and covered with medicine. It smells like frousiness.

Starbucks...

One of the reasons I hate going into a starbucks is because theres never any seating... its always taken up by someone who's chosen to spend the rest of their day sipping a single venti coffee and working on their laptop ALL DAY... fuck its a coffee shop for the love of god... i just want somewhere to sit and eat my muffin and be off... anywho.. my coworker passed this link on to me and it made me chuckle.. i figure you all may enjoy it also. ImprovEverywhere is pretty well known for their random antics.. some of the shit they do is stupid.. this one was quirky.

Game Score vs. Animation Score

I think that the reasons games are scored lower is because people could play a console game, or computer game, or they could play the flash game, so they compare the flash game to their pc games. As for I, I normally rate games down for being shallow, having no replayability, or for looking bad.
