Ray Emery should be embarassed. He allows 3 goals from Vanek. Thanks for earning your paycheck tonight, Tommy.
O yea. 5-1 Buffalo wins... 8th place in the standings now.

It just shows how good that trade was for the sens...
Loss to the Oilers, just disgusting. Hats off to Garon though, they shouldn't have won.
Ugh

Yeah, but apparently accoring to doctors who tended to Zednik, his life was never under threat. They did a great job of patching him up.
Imagine how bad that could have been, had the jugular been sliced...*shudder* It's a damn good thing he's made it out okay, regardless of whether or not he's back in hockey this season or at any point.
Apparently his first question for the doctors was "When can I practise again?" and the Doctor immediately said "Next season."
Avs lost to JS Giguere last night. We were all over the net with shots, but Giggy made all but one save, getting them the points.
Ryan Smyth could be back from a fractured ankle as soon as Thursday night, which should be a boost to us. Stastny isn't coming back for a bit, as he's tweaked his groin muscles in practise.

WHAT!?!?
The oilers worked harder for the win!
Curtis Glencross is a great addition to the roster!

That's no Malarchuk recovery, but I give him props for immediately thinking of coming back to the game he loves.

Damn you Paul, damn you for taking up that IR spot on my roster. :[
Smyth will be a solid boost though.

He wants to play again and he realises that the Panthers need him in their competative divisional race.

I wish I'd not swapped him for Modin on the roster - Modin was back, scoring points and taking up my IR spot -.-
Smyth will be a solid boost though.
The youngsters have held their own quite well, now we need to build up a push with Smyth, Sakic and Stastny.
You know you're in the Eastern Conference when:
1) You are 14th in the conference one week, and in 7th place the next.
Feel free to continue...

Thank God for streakiness, DarkSoldier. If it wasn't for matching that huge long winless streak with a huge long points streak of equal length, I don't know where they'd be right now.

I thinking I'm gonna start a "Player of the Day" trend, rather than the notables one that I started last week. That just took too much effort. I'm thinking this will get more interest in this thread.
Today's player of the day is: Chris Osgood. (Players will be chosen at random.)
Osgood was drafted in the 3rd round (54th overall) by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1991 NHL Draft. Being in the NHL for about 15 years, Osgood has compiled 358 wins, over 16,000 saves, and a GAA/Save% of 2.43/.907. He also has 46 Shutouts. He currently on his second stint with the Detroit Red Wings, and is having one of his best seasons ever, with a 2,09 GAA and a .917 Save%. He started for the Western Conference All-Star team this year (2008). Osgood has also played for the NY Islanders and the St. Louis Blues.

Starting line injured and still in the playoffs you say? I have a good feeling about this.
The player of the day for 2/16/08 is: #52 Mike Green of the Washington Capitals.
Green was drafted in the 1st round (29th pick overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. He didn't have his first full season with the Caps until the 2006-2007 season, where he compiled 2 goals and 12 points, with a -10 in plus/minus. This year, his playing has been phenomenal, tripling his production in points from last year with 36 through 59 games. He usually leads the team in ice time and is becoming exactly what the Caps hoped he would become in a defensman. He has spent all of his short career in Washington, and I bet he plans on staying there for a while.

The REAL one. ;)
get back to me when he has a cup and 500 goals.
The player of the day for 2/17/08 is: Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers!
Lundqvist was drafted in the 7th round (205th overall pick) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He is in the middle of his third season with the Rangers, and recently just signed a new contract worth $41.25 million over 6 years. In his rookie season, he participated in the 2006 Winter Olympics with the Sweden International Hockey Team. In 174 NHL games played, Henrik has won 92 games, with a 2.31 GAA and a .916 Save% and 14 Shutouts. Lundqvist is one of the first of the new breed of Swedish goaltenders ready to come into the NHL, with a class that includes one Jhonas Enroth of the Buffalo Sabres.

Also, I keep hearing all these rumors that Scott Thornton is going to get traded from Los Angeles. Does anybody have some sort of idea as to where he might end up? I personally wouldn't mind seeing him back in Montreal. The Canadiens could use somewhat of a gritty player on their team. I feel as if they kind of lack that type of player on their roster, outside of Mike Komisarek.
Who would trade for Scott Thornton? He's a crappy player and he makes entirely too much money.
And the habs are pretty much all grit outside of the top two lines.

You know, he's not that bad of a player given his age, but he's not able to show what he can actually do because Marc Crawford's a bag of douche who cares more about his hair than he does the team.
well, yea, crawford is pretty terrible. I haven't seen him make a good roster choice yet, and he plays Derek effng armstrong on his top two lines.
Today's player of the day is: Sean Hill of the Minnesota Wild.
Sean Hill was drafted in the 8th round (167th pick overall) in the 1988 NHL Entry Draft by the Montréal Canadiens. This year, Hill has played only 23 games and has gotten 3 points, along with a +/- of -10. In the past 4 season, he has belonged to 4 different teams: the Wild, Islanders, Panthers, and Hurricanes. In 864 career NHL games, he has racked up 292 total points, with a +/- of -40.

You know how that feels to watch that over and over again when it happens to your team? It's not a good feeling.
also, Mike Comrie, rapin' yo' FAIC.
I'm sure Buddhist is jumping for joy, though. I can see him posting on the Yahoo forum already...

Sakic, Stastny and Smyth have a lot to do for us when they resume skating in games - we've gopt a big enough defecit to make up over the last stretch of the season and the playoffs are still a long way from being assured in Denver :(
Losing 4-0 to the Wings didn't do me any favours either :(
At 2/20/08 01:28 PM, Gooch wrote: That was a major win and a major loss at the same time for Detroit. Sure, they ended their six-game losing skid finally. However, they ended up losing Lidstrom to a knee injury.
Yeah, it's a big loss for Detroit, certainly. Unfortunately, 2 points is a huge loss for us at the moment and we've got to try and end our 4 game skid tonight against the Ducks... We could be seeing Sakic and Stastny tonight, which would certainly be a boost. If Stastny could get a few goals on his comeback, I'd be even happier :)
How long will he be out? Who knows? I tell you one thing though. That's going to hurt the defense corps immensely. When you lose your captain and your best defenseman, you just might be in a lot of trouble. It's Detroit though, so they'll find a way to fill the void left by him somehow.
Yeah, something tells me that they'll throw in a rookie, who just turns out to be the next Al MacInnis or something similar.
O man. Went to the Sabres game last night. Thought about leaving with about 5 minutes to go. Glad I didn't. Vanek is finally earning his money with the Sabres. He gets another hat trick, this time a natural one. Seeing the hats fly in was the happiest moment of my hockey life.
