Reviews for "How To Animate Walking"

It was awful. You're totally screwing your readers

You failed to mention the so called essential parts of a visual walk. These parts are essential to a beginner. Ever heard of contact, hit, pass? You better fucking have heard of it if you want to teach walking. More advanced people can try and bypass these poses, but not the people reading your tutorial.

Also, it's kind of irresponsible to get beginners to start with straight ahead action for walks like that. If they don't know what a walk is, they definitely don't need to do it with straight ahead action. That'll totally screw up their timing. Your lesson also just gets rid of any sense of the hallowed principle of 'slow in, slow out' and timing. These people's walks that you recklessly taught are going to be evenly spaced frames that are attempting to follow your every frame instead of the essential extreme poses.

You shouldn't teach these people halfway, because it's not very nice to instill new people with half assed versions of essential concepts.

(I rated it all zeroes because these categories don't really apply to anything of a tutorial)

Walking

I couldn't help but notice that in the final animation of the walk cycle, that it looked a bit jerky - the sort of motion that you'd associate with walking down stairs and thinking that there's ONE MORE step at the very bottom when there's really not. Of course, I'm not saying I can do better (otherwise, why would I have been watching?) but I'm just suggesting that you might wanna take a look at it and see if you can smooth it out just a touch at the point where a foot (either one) comes in contact with the ground.

But as for reviewing . . . well done. And like you say, even if it IS done with stick figures, the principles should hold true even for other types of characters.

I am Practicing but...

I practice flash everyday but nothing I cant even animate using tutorials I guess I'm just not made for flash animation :( the tutorial would have been better if you used an Onion skin technique while you were explaining and showing hoe to animate other than that I guess it was pretty good I learned a bit but I will have to practice more.

Good,

for people who have no idea how to do walking...
