i do agree that there are way too many fucktards posting stupid ass reviews and that all reviews should be constructive, but i dont think that you need to have made a flash before to be able to give a good constructive review.
now for your flash it wasent actuualy too bad really. the animation at the start was cool and all the sound was clear nd not crackly. i do admit i dislike the clocks and it was really telling everyone what they should have already knowen i think that if u were to pick a topic that was interesting you could make a kickass flash

Makes some good points

Not all points that I agree with - a lack of personal experience in using Flash does not remove from someone the right to criticise someone else's Flash, for example, otherwise they wouldn't have the right to leave a good review either. I do personally know how to use Flash, but I'm not an animator; I'd prefer to stick to Photoshop and Microsoft word myself. Just plain stills with a touch of writing, since Flash isn't my thing. Just because I haven't personally made a full Flash animation, doesn't mean I can't tell what's just plain bad.

However, you do raise a good point in that so many reviewers here tend to leave unhelpful and downright offensive reviews here; almost any Flash, if you read the reviews, will yield "Free Whistle Points". And I'd prefer if those reviewers didn't get away with it so easily.

So well-said on that front. I personally try to be as unoffensive as possible, pointing out flaws where I see them (though I'm probably a bit lenient on some due to being easily amused, natch) but if the Flash itself is offensive - not in the "PC" sense but in the "here's an extremely loud noise accompanied by a picture of Tubgirl pasted onto an epilepsy-inducing background in a clear attempt to just piss off the viewer" sense - I won't be as nice as I can be.

Looking through the obituaries will yield a lot of flamers and assholes too. Three frames of stick-figure dancing? Not a good Flash, but that's no excuse to call in your own personal nuclear strike to wipe the animator from the face of the earth. "OMFG STIX? LOL U NEED TO DIE" etc. You know.

Anyway. Gave you a 6/10 for the Flash itself, but a 4/5 for the message.

You make a very good point.

Right off the bat, I'd like to say that I've never used Flash, much less submitted anything to NewGrounds (as anyone can see by checking my profile). Also, I agree with you that there's way too much unhelpful reviewing going on on Newgrounds.

All that being said, I still say that non-flash artists can offer a helpful review to a flash. The visual composition (Just from a design standpoint, I mean), or the plot are examples of things that even somebody without any flash experience can comment on.

Anyway, you're absolutaly right. Too many folks who have no submissions say crap like "Try harder" or "This is crap" or, my personal favorite, "Go kill yourself."

Good message. It needed to be said, and everybody should hear it at least once before they get to write a review.

It's an okay movie!

This was a nice movie. Even though I have submitted one flash, that doesn't necessarily mean that I absolutely can't write a negative review. I may only be comparing it to a decent submission or a submission with a score of 2.8-3.1.

Also, anyone who is giving this movie a bad score is not reviewing right. They are not reviewing the flash itself. Probably 2% of people do that.

People usually never give an accurate grade on how the submission was. Now I am grading this on how well it was, but just to respond to that PSA, I agree. Somewhat. People may leave SHIT reviews, that are not helpful like:

OMG UR SUCKAZ!!!!111 GO AWAI!!!1111111

Those people are the n00bs. They aren't even comparing the flash to anything better. They are basically imagining a flash, and trying to grade it like that.

There are people who are reviewing this flash based on their reply.
that's a pretty stupid way to review, considering the PM system. I am reviewing this flash on how well it is, and so forth.
People might not be able to write a good review, but there are threads on the BBS where you can report a review, and BLAM! It's gone! Simple as that!

So now for the real, helpful review:

Graphics: -6-
I liked the introduction, and the details and stuff. Very nice graphics! And compared to a lot of stuff out there, and my flash, this was really nice! Lightning effects were nice!

Style: -4-
I'm not particularly a big fan of clock movies, but the clocks are a basis of NG. They made some of the movies that are in the "blow whistle on stolen flash" feature!

And this flash really speaks to NG. It is a nice PSA! Good work!

Sound: -3-
I just hate that gosh-darn speakonia! Tones are messed up, no emotion. Makes you look cheap and rushy. But I liked the sound in the into though. But speakonia ruined it. You could have at least chosen another voice.

No violence.

No interactivity.

No humor.

Overall: -6-

Good work, Nice PSA, well done! Good Graphics, Not the best sound, very boring, so yup. Adds to a 6!

you raise some interesting points but your wrong..

1. you don't have to of made something in flash to know what a good flash is...all you have to of done is watched a few flash's and you can pick up on what is good and what isn't. same thing goes for knowing what is wrong with a flash eg: if the sound in a flash is so crackly you can't understand the charecters at all

however...to fully understand and respect how much work goes into a flash you definatly have to of made a one.

2. if somebody says in a review "this was not very good try harder" isn't that just a different way of saying "i didn't like this movie at all...work on the story, sound, animation, graphics ect or make something else"
people can't be telling artists how to do everything in flash...reviews aren't for learning flash...that's what tuturials are for...newgrounds even has a link to the good tuturials on the portal front page.

3. i am aware i am not saying anything about the flash (breaking reviewing rule #2) but hopfully this will help you understand some things about reviews...
