It isn't abnormal in Japan for people to refer to themselves in the third person. Most sub groups don't localize it because it can change the message. I got a neat Osaka fig in the mail yesterday. I love having money.

Finished Marco(3000 Leagues in Search of Mother). I don't think there's a whole lot I can say right now. I'm just bewildered that I saw something so wonderful, and even if it's over 30 years old; it sure as hell beats anything that's coming out these days in terms of drama and storytelling.

I better pick up something else that's good, or else it'll feel like a crime to watch a turd after seeing gold.

I didn't see those on your list, obviously, but the other two are good movies.

Battle Angel
Genius Party
Genius Party Beyond
Neo Tokyo
Memories

Have you seen the Secret of Mamo? It's one of the best Lupin movies.

As will I.

Marathoned JJBA part 6 + 7:
-Stone Ocean (6) was a fantastic read, but not as good as the previous three or SBR.
-SBR, scans/translation are still going, going to withhold judgement until it's finished.

Without further delay, GTO:
Another amazing read -- filled with a great and memorable cast of characters. An absolute fun ride like no other, with some bitch tears here and then. It gets a little tedious near the end, but I'm glad it ended as it did.

I wish the prequel would get scanned faster because it seems like it'd easily surpass GTO. Nothing better than the adventures of Ryuji and Onizuka.

----

GSD isn't worth my time talking about, except that that it jumped the shark around ep. 30 and then got worse when Kira stole the show in 39. The only exceptional mobile suit design in the whole show was the Destiny.

Also, for those that have only watched the anime, it only covers about half of the manga (up to vol. 14)

If you're willing to suffer through bad scans for first 8 or so volumes, it's definitely worth reading.

I've heard it was pretty good and I've seen the first episode and enjoyed it. Someone told me that there was a second season(if so i'm assuming you're on the second)and said it was lack luster compared to the first.

Maybe I'll pick it up one day but I'm going through ZZ Gundam and then the Igloo series after it. Maybe Seed/S Destiny/00 but I'm not sure at the moment. ZZ though, it's really good so far aside from the first 15-20 episodes of it.

00 is the best and most watchable of the three.

Seed is good, but declines in the later half.

Just ignore Destiny - it really is not worth getting into. Invest your time in something better.

That sums up pretty much most of what I've heard. But in a sense I do want to watch them so I can say that I've seen everything Gundam if anyone ever asks me.

ZZ was pretty good IMO. The ending felt rushed but a lot of that series was all over the place. From the 'villain of the week' first few eps to the wacky middle eps and so on. It only starts to get serious about half way if not into ep 30 or so. Good characters, great friendship and some pretty good mech fights. Some of the designs are odd and down right funny to look at, but every Gundam has those few that stand out from the rest of the crowd.

It gets better; S2 is disappointing but still worth watching.

Yeah, I guess you should watch GSD then (or at least the four re-cap films just to save yourself A LOT of time). The TV series is still mildly entertaining but feels like a waste when you're finished with it.

I'm actually watching all of the Gundam series myself. I'm on Zeta at the moment.

Response to Anime Club 2011-11-04 09:04:48

Also, I watched the first four episodes of Kaleido Star S2.

The re-caps were fun to watch, if not only to hear Koyasu's/the Fool's voice. The two characters introduced are annoying as fuck (Leon especially).

So those four films pretty much sum all of Seed/S Destiny? Or that's what I'm understanding here.

Well alright! Zeta is in the top tier IMO. It's the heaviest of Tominos works but it really does shine brightly.

There's actually seven in all that cover them both (three for Seed, four Destiny).

Dude, we used to go off topic all the time back when we still had Gendo, Kuro, Wonko, Mr. Trivia, and the others. It ain't no thang, baby. Which KC albums have you heard? I think their best were Red and Lark's Tongues in Aspic, but in the Court of the Crimson King, in the Wake of Poseidon, Starless and Bible Black, Discipline, Thrak, and the Power to Believe all deserve a perfect 5 star rating from any critic.

Oh, and anime. That stuff sure is somethin'.

Seven? Man, I wish some of the older series would get movie treatment. Well, if you count the Zeta movies anyways which are pretty good. The new animation is crisp and flows real well with the original animation overall. There are times where the new animation looks really out of place or just doesn't match up with the old too well.

I haven't really gotten into Gundam much, but I thought 08th MS Team was badass. And I used to watch Gundam Wing and G Gundam on Toonami after school. I would have probably gotten into Gundam, but there's too many series and most of them have too many episodes. I'm just not willing to dedicate myself to a show like that.

best tree music ever. This makes me miss my best friend who is in boot camp right now. We used to get high and sing along to this song. That and One Time. It looks like his tree days will be over until he's in his 40s, though, since he intends to make a career out of being in the military.

Music time? Anyone listened to the album 88 by Kashiwa Daisuke? I shared some of my tastes with /mu/ and a few people recommended it. Shit is my favorite album now. On a more anime related note, I watched the first chunk of Memories, watched Neo Tokyo, and GITS Solid State Society. Memories I really like so far. Neo Tokyo had neat animation style but the plot was kind of lol random. Solid State Society was a pretty huge disappointment, it's filled with gross 3dcg, and the story wasn't captivating. Solid State Society was a stain on the GiTS franchise imo. Was busy playing through Portal today so I will probably start on GTO tomorrow at some point.

Hope you enjoy it. The manga was fucking awesome, but I haven't seen the anime.

It just sucks that it isn't a complete adaptation -- you're missing out on a lot of stuff if you just watch the anime.
