She's not an alt, silly.

Plus, I may need to remind you that FUNimation removed or censored out quite a bit of the characteristic nudity that made Shin Chan so famous *cough*Mr. Elephant*cough*.

If you really want to see Shin's penis, you can get the DVD sets. But I don't care about his penis.

And I'm sure none of us want the thread locked.

THAT'S RIGHT. A MOTHERFUCKING BUNNY.

You know, I normally enjoy One Piece, but the current arc in the manga, sweet Jesus...

Whitebeard has spend about 5 chapters having a heart attack, getting up, slashing the fuck out of the Marines, and having another heart attack.

Impel Down was pure awesome, how in the hell are they gonna manage to put all that in the anime is beyond me.

Spent these past few weeks finding case scans of the G Gundam OSTs. Got most of them, and some translations for some of the dramas of the 3rd Round. Also translated all of the tracks with a buddy of mine so they are pretty sound.

Didn't tag the MP3s right but at least they have the english tracks on them. Life is good.

Shin Chan may have been just shallow pop-culture jokes, but I liked it nevertheless. The voices were pretty good too.

You put an apostrophe in the word 'likes' when there should have been no apostrophe.

That makes me angry.

Yeah, it was marginally enjoyable. Laura Bailey did a good job of emulating Akiko Yajima (the original Japanese voice actress for Shinnosuke).
P.S. Did you hear that Shin-Ei Animation is going to make an All Grown Up-type spinoff of Crayon Shin-chan? Apparently the most recent movie introduced some important characters.

I'm just getting started on the R.O.D series. I'm watching the first episode in English with subs on to compare and see if it has been changed much. If the dub is extremely different from the original dialogue, I tend to reject it and watch it subbed, excluding awesome re-writes like Lupin and Shin Chan (fuck off) and such. And I hear a character say "This isn't about pride" while I see written below "It's a matter of pride". Are we just directly contradicting the original dialogue for the lols? Fuck me, I just said "for the lols".

I tried doing that backwards with my Japanese My Neighbour Totoro DVD once. I have a Japanese copy of My Neighbour Totoro, and watching it in Japanese with English subtitles is really annoying.

The English subtitles are the for-the-hard-of-hearing subtitles that you can put on while you're watching the English dub. That is to say, they read out the English language script, rather than a straight translation of the Japanese script.

It made me find out that the dub added in a lot of lines to try and make the plot more accessible to younglings. So watching my DVD with English subtitles means that subtitles will keep popping up all over the place when there's no corresponding voiced dialogue.

Luckily My Neighbour Totoro is an incredibly simple movie, so I can watch it without subtitles and still easily understand everything.

That's an old practice called "dubtitling." It was once standard practice in the industry; it died out with the advent of fansubs (when people figured out they were being lied to).

Which dub: Streamline or Disney?

Yeah, these subtitles were specifically 'english for the hard of hearing'.

No idea. I haven't watched it in dub.

oh you. i never really had the drive to watch something dubbed and then subbed to see if they matched up. i just do research with that one. some groups are horrible at subbing. then again, when only one group has subbed something it's not like you have a choice.

Just finished Kemeko DX. For an ecchi series with random and mech/sci fi elements it's pretty good. I'm hoping for a second season but I haven't seen anything solid about there being another one. Here's to hoping.

Out of a recommendation on another forum I have starting to watch a 6 episode show called Mnemosyne. One episode in and I honour the man who made this recommendation. It's really good and what can I say about this show... well, I'll quote the recommendater.

"IT'S ALSATIA

Mnemosyne was an anime of 6 45-minute episodes made in 2008 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the channel AT-X. There isn't much to say beyond that except that it's great, so I'll get right to it.

This is a show about memories. Over a thousand years worth of memories, in fact. The problem with this review is that I don't want to spoil ANYTHING. I didn't really even want to post the opening because of how the lyrics kinda spoil things (since the song was written specifically for the series). This is a series that is so much more enjoyable when you go into it knowing nothing, because the twists and turns it takes really do feel genuinely surprising when you know nothing about it beforehand. So....yeah. Sorry for the lackluster review in that sense.

Oh, and the series is very much a bloody and sexualized series. It's NOT for kids. Also, I seriously recommend seeing it in Japanese. Nothing against Colleen Clinkenbeard, but Mamiko Noto has one of the most unique voices you'll come across due to her "breathy" way of speaking, and she delivers her lines beautifully and gives the main character Rin a fantastic personality as a result."

Possibly best shit ever*. Worth the watch, and now that you mention it, I think there's a third season, which I havenn't seen yet.

I loved zetsubou sensei. At some points it's absolutely hilarious, and the fast paced dialogue mixed with the cultural references really get you into the show.

Yes, there is. (Ringo Mogire Beam! is the opening theme from it.) A few months back, the Taiwanese show Wo Ai Hei Se Bang Bang Tang (sic) famously copied the animation from its opening sequence, as well as used obvious sampled clips from the opening theme from K-ON!

Welcome to my world.
Sometimes dubs are tolerable, but most of the time I find it hard to stomach the dub of a show after I've seen it with subtitles. Kaleido Star was this way (I couldn't stand Sora's dub voice), while Azumanga Daioh was decent (the voices were almost identical and in Chiyo and Mr. Kimura's case, favorable).
Older dubs, such as Sailor Moon, Pokémon and Mew Mew Power, however, make me want to throw up when I watch them; they're that bad.
