Way to state the obvious.

Future Shop has piss service, and a lack of decent anime. The only thing they had that I'd buy was Read or Die, the rest was shit.

Funny.

Word for word, that accurately describes the local Future Shop.

Except I already have Read or Die, so even that does not appeal to me (and I had purchased it for cheaper at an HMV, to boot).

Best Buy had some decent stuff, but nothing worth buying. THEY HAD VOLUME 2 OF THE MELANCHOLY OF HARUHI SUZUMIYA FOR FUCKING 45 DOLLARS! Do I get a hand job with that? Bonus shit? No. Just the damn DVD. They also had the platnium collection of EVA. For 90 dollars. DO I GET A POSEABLE REI ACTION FIGURE? Doubtful, just overpriced failure. AND A SHINY BOX BUT THAT'S IT!

Best Buy is notorious for being horrid.

And their advertising is awful.

Also, $45 for Haruhi? That's insane. The most expensive single volume of the series I've seen was $29.99 at a CD Plus. That said, CD Plus has shockingly good prices (MPD Psycho was like $20, Knights of Ramune a mere $7.99, both complete series sets).

Also, In Rainbows was ass expensive at both stores. Luckily I already got it for 10 dollars. Not 15. HMV rules.

HMV usually has decent prices (except that $50 dollar volume of Popotan at their downtown Halifax store), but their stock is iffy.

Probably because I read the manga first, which is near indentical and much easier to digest.

I almost always find manga harder to digest.

I mean, I like comics, but black and white just isn't very captivating.

Further proof that Satoshi Kon is magic

I have seen other shows which try to make suicide funny.

They just aren't as successful.

Like an episode of My Name Is Earl I watched when there was a marathon on.

I'm pretty much only in it for Hugh Laurie.

Because he's a brilliant actor.

Yeah, but he was a lot better when he was doing British comedies.

I found it signifcantly more interesting than most films of the era.

Plus, Bela Lugosi and Dwight Frye are awesome.

As soon as films got sound, they got worse, around that time.

I've seen some great silent films, since they had to use imagery to get their plot by, rather than just having their dialogue do the talking (har har har).

Dracula was just quite boringly done.

I've started re-reading the manga lately.

I've read the first couple of manga.

I gave up after realising it was identical to the Ultimate series, and decided I'd just watch that instead.

Vampire battles are a lot cooler in motion.

I didn't, I played tenaciously.

Probably far too much.

It was mostly just me finding some part too hard, or just getting to the end and stopping.

I don't know why I did the latter.

Yep, that's me.

Always doing...something.

I almost always find manga harder to digest.

I'v been a speed-reader since an early age, so I find reading of any sort easy.

I mean, I like comics, but black and white just isn't very captivating.

I'm a whore for black and white, leaves more to the imagination.

Plus, some artists don't work very well with colour.

Yeah, but he was a lot better when he was doing British comedies.

Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster, Fry and Laurie, etc.

As soon as films got sound, they got worse, around that time.

I've never been of the mind that any period in film made the medium worse.

There have always been a great deal of shit films.

Always.

I've seen some great silent films, since they had to use imagery to get their plot by, rather than just having their dialogue do the talking (har har har).

Nice way of putting it.

I enjoy some silent films, but the majority of the easy-to-find ones are so-so Hollywood stuff.

Dracula was just quite boringly done.

Dracula would have made excellent fodder for an exciting movie, if it wasn't for the rambling psuedo-narrative of the novel and primitive special effects of the era.

I just liked the atmosphere of the film, and the acting is far better than the majority of early horror flicks.

I've read the first couple of manga.

I gave up after realising it was identical to the Ultimate series, and decided I'd just watch that instead.

I started the manga first, and Ultimate's release schedule is far too slow, so I continued to read it.

I've already slogged through the nine published volumes, and I eagerly await the tenth (and supposedly final) one.

Vampire battles are a lot cooler in motion.

Oh, definitely.

The Valentine brothers looked like lameasses in the manga and TV anime, but they get the best episode in Ultimate (no doubt due to the fact that Hideyuki Kurata wrote it).

Then I started reading comics.

Now I've quietened down on that, too.

Great... You can imagine his pants are blue.

No, purple.

No, brown.

I've never been of the mind that any period in film made the medium worse.

There have always been a great deal of shit films.

Always.

But as soon as sound came around there seemed to be less experimentation.

Like when I was watching Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans, I wondered "Man, how did they do that at that time?" for a lot of it.

And for the majority of voiced films around that time it just seemed to be static shots.

Dracula would have made excellent fodder for an exciting movie, if it wasn't for the rambling psuedo-narrative of the novel and primitive special effects of the era.

Oh yes, Dracula movies are so much better now.

I have never seen a bad Dracula film.

Never.

I just liked the atmosphere of the film, and the acting is far better than the majority of early horror flicks.

I think I turned it off.

It was quite late, and the movie was making me tired.

I started the manga first, and Ultimate's release schedule is far too slow, so I continued to read it.

I can do other stuff while I wait.

It makes Ultimate more satisfying.

I take it you missed the part about the rambling psuedo-narrative.

Plus, did I ever even mention, let alone defend, any other version of Dracula?

The book's writing style makes a faithful yet logical adaptation an impossibilty for modern filmmakers.

The novel is written like a diary, except without a consistent timeframe and additional material added by other characters (such as the chapter where Van Helsing dictates the letter). Making that into a movie without extensive (and often shitty) re-writes or manic pacing is not possible.

I think I turned it off.

It was quite late, and the movie was making me tired.

I recall we discussed this when I bought the movie mid-last year.

I can do other stuff while I wait.

It makes Ultimate more satisfying.

Like I said, I've already read ahead (I was around four volumes in by the time I saw the first episode of Ultimate), so it doesn't really matter to me.

I still find every second fresh and exciting, because despite sharing indentical dialogue, the addition of sound and motion makes the story infinitely more engaging than a bunch of surreal (and occassionally sloppy) illustrations.

Day One of Ohayocon 8 officially sucked ass:
I had to work until 5 PM because my boss wouldn't give me the day off (even though I requested it four months in advance), so I missed all of the Friday afternoon panels. I got home a little before 5:30, ate dinner, changed clothes, and left for the convention around 6, but I didn't reach the convention center until a little after 7 because Google Maps gave me horrible directions. The parking garage was full, so I had to park at a nearby public parking lot for $8 and walk a couple of blocks to the convention center. Once I got in the door, I found myself unnecessarily waiting in line for my badge because I didn't hear the staff members saying that those who pre-registered could go straight to the check-in station. By the time I got my badge, the dealers room was closed and there were no decent panels (excluding the late night ones, but I can't go to those because I commute). I picked up five 8.5" by 11" pictures of Orihime from Bleach, an older Hinata Hyuga from Naruto, Starfire from Teen Titans, Yoko from Gurren Lagann, and four Bleach girls. I plan to get a picture frame and display them on a two-week rotation.
Day Two promises to be a great experience, however. The dealers room opens at 10 AM sharp and there are several panels to keep me busy from 11 AM to 8:30 PM. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yes.

Kereberos Corps ftw!

If you enjoy it, you may want to seek out the Mamoru Oshii Cinema Trilogy (The Red Spectacles, Stray Dog and to a lesser extent Talking Head) as they share the same universe.

Although Oshii's films are a lot more avant-garde...

I decided to watch the first episode of Aria the Animation.

I've enjoyed the first episode.

It was basically the same as the first chapter of the first manga, though the old man is now a little girl, and Aika shows up for a lot of the episode.

Also, as you would expect, more happens in the one episode, than would in one chapter of a manga.

It seems very laxed, and I like that.

The series is basically a science fiction, slice of life comedy about a girl training to be a gondola pilot (undine) in a reconstructed version of Venice, on a terraformed Mars (now Aqua).

Ohayocon 8 Day 2 was indeed much better. I lined up for the Dealers Room around 9:45 and actually made it to the door less than 5 minutes after it opened. I picked up two Haruhi Suzumiha wallscrolls (and a vendor's business card so he can get me some 18+ ones), a Naruto kunai, a very detailed Fujiko Mine figure with a removable pink dress, and a figure of some chick in armor (with a removable chest plate). In the Artists' Alley, I picked up three more prints: a "Pikachick", an anthro cowgirl, and an anonymous busty blond in leather pants. The artist of the third one threw in a free autograph.
In addition to the loot and the wider selection of quality panels, I also got the chance to use my cell phone's camera feature. I snapped a dozen photos of sexy cosplayers: Jill Valentine of Resident Evil, Fran of Final Fantasy XII, a sexy moogle, Tifa Lockheart of Final Fantasy VII, Maya Natsume of Tenjou Tenge, and Zero Suit Samus of Super Smash Bros. Melee are the ones I can identify. I also have a couple pictures of a green-haired girl in a white & orange costume, but I don't know who that character is or where she's from.
Since I accomplished pretty much all of my objectives yesterday (and there's nothing especially good scheduled for Day 3), I'm done with Ohayocon 8.

1.Hellsing
This is my number one favorite anime so far because of its intense violence, religeous references, and the added flavor of the past terror, the Nazis.

2.Fist of the North Star
Another extreme violence series that is just plain and simple one of the best things ive ever seen having the ability to cut men into pieces or watch them explode from the inside is truly entertaining.

3.The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
I like this series perticularily for the laughs of the bizzare thing that a couple teenagers go through especially when one of them is god, an emotionless alein, an esper, and some poor asshole caught in the middle of it all.

4.Jo Jo's Bizzare Adventure
I enjoy this series because of the action and basically watching random shit happen.

5.Black Lagoon
Whorish nuns insane pirates and stoned get away drivers what could be better.
