Bump mapping does not make things look shiny. Specular highlights make things look shiny.

Trust me, I'm the 3d person here. :P

however in a realtime situation the crappy bump mapping of the 360 simply creates the illusion of shininess

I'm pretty sure that's just from the bloom and HDR lighting that the games use. I could very well be wrong though.

In other news...

Night of the Living Blam

My halloween game is a little late, but school wouldn't get of my back; quite literally, my butt still hurts from all that pushing.

It stands no chance against Red Baron which is totally awesome, but I didn't want to hold it off another day for a better shot at an award. Feedback is appreciated :D

Ive seen useless bump maps in games before. The idea is they add depth but often they look silyl and take up memory. I was playing thief: deadly shadows and all the books have this really lame parchment bump map on them. Because you dont see them in much detail it's basically just like 2 folds across each page and is justa complete waste fo time.
Cant see how they would make things look shiny though.

Well dunno if anyone else has heard but theres gonna be Devil May Cry 4 for the PS3 and Final Fantasy 13, number 12 is for PS2(thank god!) which by the way Final Fantasy 12 is the first Final Fantasy to recieve a 5/5 from X-play(review show on G4).

Final Fantasy fans and anyone who loves Devil May Cry are gonna want the PS3, so again its all about the games for the system.

That's weird, ff7 was amazing for it's time, even if cloud had boxing cubes for hands...

I pre ordered ff12, don't know much about the ps3, but I want a wii for online super smash bros brawl pretty much. I think it's more worth it to buy that than a ps3 for kingdom hearts 3.

I only want a few next gen games now anyways, all i want xbox360 for is halo3, ps3 - kingdom hearts 3, and wii - super smash bros brawl. I wish I could pay for something that had those three games only. that'd be sweet.

Oh and I wasn't particularly happy with the ps2's first final fantasy games. I thought they were a huge let down compared to ff7-ff9. I wish they'd port those to the psp, except they are four discs long which wouldn't work too well on one psp UMD.

To be honest, as great as FF VII-IX were (X sucked hard) they were still a let down for me from FF-II & III (respectively IV & VI in Japan). It all depends on your generation, I guess. Still, I think, for most people, jumping right into a new generation of a console at the start can be a mistake, no one can predict how things will eventually pan out.

The games availible at launch are always a little lacking, and often the first systems will experince unforseen problems as was the case with the PS-2 and the 360. I have a first generation PS-2, got it at release, and it's had it's problems and been in the shop, even now it's touch and go again.

All I'm saying is that things are never what you expect them to be. If it were up to me the PS-3 and the Wii would be smashing successes, both. But I don't think the market can sustain 3 major consoles.

i've never played any of the ps2 final fantasies

the best one IMO is FFIII (the japanese NES one they're remaking for the DS)

I played a translated ROM of it. It was amazing, such an expansive world and a decent storyline. Almost unreal for a NES game.

I have tactics advanced too, great game, although npt the same style as the others, I still hvae almost 100 hours of gameplay logged in that game.

Ya, like 40 years ago when you were a teenager, you played super nintendo, I did too, but not anything advanced like final fantasy. When I was younger, the most complicated game I played was ff7, younger years were things like super mario and mario kart and super mario rpg to spyro: ripto's rage on playstation.

I don't really see an issue with any three of the systems because they are all priced according to how advanced the system is. Except I think the Wii has a bit of a jumpstart on the technology:price ratio.

No it didn't have any problems, but it did lack good games. Overal,l it was for me, the single most dissapointing console of the last generation soley because the only exclusive games worth playing were the ones published by Nintendo. Zelda was great, Super Smash Bros. was great, Mario and Metroid were great, but that was about all that the system was good for, in my opinion, it just wasnt versitile enough.

Oh yes, final fantasy tactics rules. I wish they ported the playstation one to PSP. Does the PSP company not realize that people want any ports from older great awesome games? Why don't they re-release any of the earlier classics for the new generations of public? Like super mario rpg, why don't they redo that on the DS? That'd be sweet!

On at least PSP and maybe DS, you should be able to download ports.

It's the reg thread. We pretty much talk about whatever (within the rules, obviously) and right now (as in for the last 20+ pages) we have been partaking in the console wars.

Yea, flash is good for that. It isn't hard to use and it doesn't take a lot of effort to produce something.

I have that game too, and honestly, It's the best FF game in my opinion. But then again, I'm not much of a final fantasy fan, nor of a sony fan. So It's nearly the only one i've played (leaving NES and SNES aside of course). I remember i had FF V for SNES (or was it IV? I cant remember). It was a great game... Altough i did hate the random encounters, mostly for the sound they made, haha, i remember i was playing at night and that sound would just scare me and make me stop playing. :P

Still with Devil May Cry 4 and FF 13 on PS3 thats enough for me to buy a PS3, but then wii has waay more games I want, and talking about flash I'm gonna make a flash on my fav sound clip/conversation from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

i have to say, i really dont like it when sound boards have entire convo's on them. I like hitting a buton, hearing a fast, funny, comment, and moving on to the next one. i hate having to hit the button, and sitting and waiting for some styupid joke to be done. but yah, good luck.
