Why'd they have to be so cryptive about it? Just have what they are, we're not playing dingbats.
The office 08 are icons are very Adobe-ish, just the first letter of the program. The 07 icons make no sense, seems like they intended to make them look hip rather than user-friendly.

It's a project you should have done out of love for NG, not for fame and recognition.
Sorry, by that I mean I put a lot of work in and it didnt get as many hits as any defense game I've ever built, so in future rather then stick with this I'd rather build a defense game or something.
Flash is a hobby for me as well as a legitimate way to make a small income on the side. The game was on front page for a week or so, and I'm more then happy with that, in fact, it's probably the only place where the game got hits due to the fact it was an NG-skinned game. If the game hadn't been an NG skin I would have got a lot more hits in total, but that's fine because it wasn't necessarily the target. NG doesn't owe me anything and I certainly don't owe NG anything.

Get real. You can either have a completely pure flash with no ads or commercial purpose and be poor OR you can put some decent, relevant ads that won't annoy people and make a little money in the process.

I would normally agree with you. Normally I don't care about making money and would rather get an award or frontpage. Money still awfully important to me and I probably care more about frontpage but I do want to make a small profit as theres some stuff I want to set up which I need money for.
Alot of the stuff I want to set up actually give back to NG or the flash community in someway.
But flash is definitely a hobby more than anything.
Car Accident
They suck. Some lady didn't see me coming and pulled out in front of me. I had to swerve fast and ended up wrecking into some brush. She was real nice about it though, turned around to help, and admitted it was her fault.
Mostly cosmetic damage to my vehicle, with the exception of 2 blown front tires and bent rims. Me and my passenger are fine though, apart from me having a massive backache.
I now know how you felt glaiel :(...

I can agree with that, in this day and age its probably a bigger crime to just give your games away for the 'love' of it.. because sites make a living off you with or without you making a cent. If you are against money, run the ads and donate it to charity! Its like leaving money on the table to not get the bang for your buck in the game scene.
Just as people have learned to live with seeing a banner ad on a site, people have learned to live with seeing an ad while the game loads... they have to wait for it to load anyway.. they are only as intrusive as you make it out to be.

Around the UK there's some special advanced screenings on the 23rd, you also get a free awesome lenticular poster! I'm going to the one at Newcastle, anyone else planning to go to one?

Cool, I thought you were whining, but now I see what you really intended. I agree that you may as well grab the money you can, but I don't ever expect to be quitting my day job to make independent flash games, so there is still a bit of creative/artistic pleasure I get from doing my own stuff.

This is true. Not too long ago there were no ads on any flash games anywhere. Now they're on pretty much every game, unless it is sponsored. People no longer mind and its your game so you should at least make a bit of money off it or claim it and donate.
Physics Engines/Tutorials for AS2
I've googled this loads and looked through forums etc and I haven't really found anything decent. Basically, I want to learn to do boxes. Stack them. Knock them over etc. Do any of you know any:
o Physics engines in AS2 that support this.
o AS2 tutorials on this.
o Tutorials on this with pseudo code
Flade doesn't support boxes, that I know of so don't link me to it.
Don't think this warrants a new topic so I posted it here.

heh, isnt your day job making corporate flash games? :P
On a similar topic... Im releasing a game soon, found a sponsor and all that... The only thing is, she wants a small logo for the website on the HUD... This is something I am pretty against, and although they have made a good offer for the game, I feel its taking the advertising too far. Ads scattered all over a game can make it look tacky and ruin the experience, and I really dont want to do that.
What do you guys suggest? whats a good way of saying "no I dont want to do this" while still sounding friendly and keeping the sponsorship deal?Anyone been in a similar situation?

I don't know i'm still partial to having pure flash's, of course I am planning to make money off of a game that i'm working on with people, were just going about it different ways than ads. I'll think on it though

I'm so pumped! I get to see it in switzerland YAY! (2 DAYS TILL TRIP!! <3)
proof is my poster, on this post i made about your animation workspace =D

Just say politley that you're willing to do everything else but you would prefer not to put their logo in the HUD on the game. I'm sure if they like the game enough to give it a decent amount of money they will comply.

Yeah, as mentioned above, tell them politely you're against it, and if they insist, quote them something ridiculous on top of their normal price to do it.

Sure, but the sites that have a 30s ad before a game that you realise after a minute are a lousy rip-off of 10 better games really get my goat.
And in this day and age, a game without massive graphic resources can load way faster than the ads take to show.
Enh. If I could actually get sponsorship, you'd see more stuff from me. That's my goal for tomorrow - finish something and get >=£25 for it. Wish me luck.

Yeah sounds like the best way to go about it! Would be cool to get even more! Although tbh id rather have a game out without logos all over the hud than the extra money.
Danomano decided on the right thing in the end, which is cool. Took him a few angry reviews but I guess it pushed him to finally take off the flash. =)

Heh fun story about that, I do stuff like that when people ask to license the FLAs of my games. Some company asked how much it would cost for me to develop 10-20 games for them (they want full rights and everything, I'm guessing it was 10-20 small games cause I can't make 10-20 large games in a reasonable time period). Anyway I said well i can make a good deal through sponsoring which doesn't require me licensing away the FLAs, so I stated $60000 for 10 games and $120000 for 20.
Now the funny part is, rather than getting the typical "Sorry, that's out of our budget right now" response I usually get, I got "That's great! I'll forward this to our company head and he'll get back to you". Needless to say, I never got a response back from their company head.
Although I would have loved to make that much money for 10 little games.

LMAO!! Thats fantastic, I cant beleive the people here though, quality coders at the age of 15 :P nice :D
i'm kinda jealous at everyones AS Skill, but personally i'm more of an animation fan to coding. I get other people to code for me, or just use the behaviors tool when neccesary :D
*cheers* Thread derailment and happy times! What more can I want? :D
