well youre right. I actually make more out of it when im doing css stuff. But its good for animation out of convenience, i can chat with people on the right and animate on the left, it allows me to glance at windows and decide if its worthwhile to answer people. </diva>

In regards to setup, well the 'good' monitor is going into the dvi port of the graphic card and the analog one is going in the other port. One thing that irritates me is the initial setup to get both monitors to have the same color management. I specifically bought the same monitor so i wouldnt have to spend ours calibrating it.. but nope i plug em both in and ones bluer. monitors suck.

seriously some of that stuff is amazing, i'm super impressed.

But with how many layers he has to use one has to wonder if it would have been faster just to frame by frame...

Some very nice animations there. Really interesting, I liked the walkcycle simulation.
Tweening is such a useful tool, and I don't like how some people hate tweened animations. Those would have taken a great deal of skill, effort and perception to create those cool effects.
People shouldn't animate by thinking of the quickest or easiest way to get there movie done. The method they use, frame-by-frame, motion tweening or shape tweening should be determined by the desired overall effect and feel to their movie, and not as shortcuts for lazy animators...even though really we all are at some stage.
Tweening can look a lot more professional and virtually better than any fbf in some cases.

CS3 Bugs

This issue is really pissing me off. For some reason, using simple gotoAndStop() actions in games causes clips and objects on completely different frames to be loaded. You can't see them, but their sounds still play and scripts still execute, or (more annoyingly in that it makes it a hell of a lot more difficult to work around) just the sounds, so I'm forced to come up with a ridiculously elaborate system for accessing sounds which involves two nested movie clips and a lot of screwing around with frame actions which makes them impossible to get to without AS. I also have to add kill() functions to every object I have script on the frames of to delete everything if the frame on the main timeline isn't what it's supposed to be when the clip is loaded.

I never had these problems with AS2. Sure there was the odd bug or two, but nothing requiring such elaborate workarounds.

yeh, dual setup is amazingly beneficial, infact even 3 screens would still be an advantage for me:

for flash, the canvas and drawing shit on left, actions panel/output panel on the right screen
if i had 3 screen, MSN on the third screen with music

c++ programming, i have notepad++ open on left, application and dev-cpp open on right,
if i had third screen, i could have MSN again, or another notepad++ open so i can have two source files open at once etc, or for a browser for references etc

Well i usualy animate on the widescreen and have my time line stretched on the left screen. Its usefull when you have a huge time line. Also when i want some spetial effect of w/e, i open firework on the leftand flash on the right! Its so muth better that way.
Btw no it dont fuck the mouse or the tablet, your mouse just cross the screen to go play around in the other one, its just a matter of configuration. As for the luis tv well awsome dude :P Would like to play CS:S on that :P. Also if i may have an advice for those who dont have a tablet and want to animate, get a high dpi mouse.

A high dpi mouse isnt necessarily better, i had bought the top of the line logitech one and it was way too jittery ... even after tweaking it via its control panel it wasnt that great, i think its great for gaming but for something like drawing that is a slow and steady hand movement its TOO sensitive, i could see it being awesome for like counterstrike or something where you could have lightning fast moves and percission.

I think the key to good mouse art is finding that mouse that you are comfortable with.. it fits your hand naturally, and its responsiveness feels comfortable. For me i still think infrared's are better than the laser ones. Also important is to get a decent mousepad and make sure you keep it clean! I dunno how people can draw with no mousepad, it needs that grippyness..

I was thinking that for next years luis day, ill have it so that the best entry will get my 6x11 tablet. I'll ask Tom first, but i think it'd be sort of cool.

Dual Screen

I've got one CRT and one LCD screen, so i have any images on the LCD, so they are of higher clarity, and coding/timelines on the left. It's handy for XPs random crashes aswell, because usually one screen freezes so you can close the crashing program in another.

I picked up a 17"CRT for £20. But you can get a tft 17" one for £90 here. It's pretty handy, there's a pc fair every saturday about 10 mins away, so if i ever need anything cheap, i can get it there.

AS3

I remember you posting about that paranoia, why not email adobe? The new update thing means they can update scripts when they need, which is handy. The stupid thing is that you have to run flash to run the update, then close flash to download it :S.

Wii jacket things

Anyone else just got a Wii message thing offering free wiimote jackets for anyone who has a wii? i just applied for a couple, and they look pretty nice.

If you cant be arsed to read the message, it waffles on a bit about how Nintendo like safety and stuff, and then says go here.

I'd have to go with dual, that sounds too badass to pass up. Just make sure you have enough space for both.

Dual Monitors

Can you pull the flash application across both screens? That's what it sounds like people have been saying, with having the code on one screen and the stage on another. Dual screen is pretty badass, I've only used it like twice in my life, but it was cool. Right now I have a laptop, so it's not practical to get another screen....well actually I'm not sure if you can use a laptop and another monitor to set up dual screen..... but maybe when I get a pc I will move to dual screen.

I was showing my class an animation a couple years ago, and I discovered that you can set it up so that programs are actually draggable between the computer screen and the projector. I thought that was pretty cool at the time =P

Alright, i've had one for a year now so here's a few tips :D. Download Ultramon, it's a program that lets you use wallpapers that stretch across 2 monitors, use a task bar for each monitor, set window options etc. There's a trial, and it costs about £20 for the full thing. Also, make sure you have a graphics card with either 2 DVI or VGA ouputs, without these you can't plug in 2 monitors.

Anyway, it's well worth it, especially if you can get it for free. I'v got 2, but i suppose you could have up to 10 if you've got the cash to buy a spitter and 10 monitors.

It's fun to learn :D:D.

MOUSE

Well, i agree on the fact that you need an infared mouse, witch is offered on gaming mice as the death adder, copperhead 3g and diamondback 3g. The g5 and the mx518 are standart lazer. Also for the grippy mousepad you might wanna go with the exmat. In fact, mousedrawing is like a big RTS :P. Honnestly, the best mouse to draw would be a ergonomic mouse, heavy and with high dpi. The Emphasis i put on the dpi is the fact that you NEED one for dual screen monitor. The trick is that when you have a 1600 dpi mouse on a single screen its alright, your cursor moove at a decent speed while mooving one pixel at a time. Take a 800 standart dpi mouse and divide it by 2. This will be the dpi you would have on a single screen. Its not fun when drawing a circle that your mouse skip 30 pixel MINIMUM. When a dual-screen requier aproximatively... 2500-3000 dpi.
