What program do you use? Maya or 3ds Max I assume?
kinda funny you guys did the whole camera thing, that's something I was planning on using in project of mine (now on the backburner)
a ghost hunting game where you had to explore a house and take pictures, and upon meeting certain conditions while taking the picture, a ghost would appear in the picture

I'm a hardcore maya fan :D Though I do have a copy of Max 6 that I got for free from this robotics competition I was in back in high school, I don't like Max much.
I LOVE MAYA

Doesn't that cost like, the price of a couple of black market hearts? Where the hell did you get the money for that?
rich bastard :P
Maya educational costs upwards of $300. Not bad, I think, for practicing and making some awesome work. I think it watermarks your work though, don't quote me on that.

lol, I forgot about the educational discounts. Hell, I should probably try it if I can get a bit of money together.

You aught to still do it, as I think it sounds pretty cool...
Let me set the record straight on maya, as the two of you I saw talking about it got it wrong.
1: Yes, it costs a pretty penny, but not if you buy the educational version.
Price breakdown for best version of maya (Maya Unlimited):
Full (commercial use): $7000
Student WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MAYA 5 $700
Student nowadays $340
2: The watermarkness/restrictions work as follows:
There is a FREE COMPLETELY FREE "PLE" (Personal Learning Edition) version of maya available on autodesk (as they bought alias)'s website. This trial, unlike flash trials, never expires. It does, however, have a giant ugly watermark on it. (If you batch render an animation, the watermark flows... it fucking moves to prevent you from removing it ROFL)
However the student versions ARE COMPLETELY WATERMARK FREE. They just aren't liscensed for commercial use.
rich bastard!
LOL NO I'M BROKE :'(
but if I get this music scholarship I'm trying for ima buy a really leet computer

Thanks for the clarification on that. I knew there was some connection between watermarks and cheaper/free versions, just wasn't quite sure.
Any of you use swift3d? If so, what do you think? Is it worth the time and money, when it's uses seem slightly limiting?

I tried it for a while. As far as I could see most of it is just basic primitive shapes and you can edit them a bit in the lathe editor or whatever it is. I reckon it is probably quite good if you really learn it, but with the prices Orb has given for student versions of Maya, I'd get that instead.
And shall I tell you the coolest thing about Swift3D?
YOU CAN MAEK TEXTZ SPIN AROUND LOLOLOL

If you learn VB, you will probably find it harder to adjust the the C++ Syntax.

Honestly, quite fun! Kinda like paths only a little more fun because of the physics (no offense Glaiel :P)
Would you mind if I hosted it on a new Flash site I'm making with my buddies?

Really really good, Clanger. You should get a daily prize with that at least.

Anyway, thanks alot :)

Nice work Clanger :O. I liek it, very addictive. I'm sure you;ve posted a basic version of this elsewhere. Anyway, good game, just oen thing, when you press a button (e.g. clear), it draws, and after a while, you cannot see the button :O. Anyway, minor, minor thing, great game :).

He he he. I'll bear that in mind. I really do want to get into cool 3D stuff.
you should have made it a clickable quote. Why didn't you make it a clickable quote, Oboe?

np. It really is an awesome game. I've fallen in love :) Pity you can't go anywhere else with the 'genre' really.

Yeah I've noticed that too. I worked for ages to fix it, but it fucked up seriously (can't really understand why), but I'll make sure I'll fix it for the sequel :)

Why do you say that :O? There's a bunch of things you can make, like fans, magnets and stuff like that :)

That lets it down so much unfortunately. They're exceptionally cool (and I'm guessing take a hellishly long time to drag through, I'm guessing, mentalray), but I'm none too keen on the camera angle and lack of scenary.
The composition seems a bit off - the focus is ambiguious because the car in the foreground (which has the focus) is chopped, and the car in the background has too much of the rest of the screen. And with the lack of background, we can't appreciate flying asphalt and city lighting adding to the effect.
The model is excellent and the burning rubber effect is fantastic (both are better than I can do), but it just needs that little extra touch for me to have a stroke from seeing something so awesome.
At 10/29/06 08:28 PM, Shmelo wrote: Beyond good and evil is actually a really cool game, it should've been reckognized more. And whilst The Super Flash Bros incorperated a camera in their game, a flash game like good and evil would be cool whereas a more focus and more intereactive camera is used.
It's one of those sleeper hit games. I don't think I've skim read a bad review or heard a bad word of it. I'd like to see a game where the focus of the game was to expose corruption within a fictional city by taking photos of high ranking members of society doing sleazy / illegal activities (I also just completed Bully / CCE where a lot of the missions with the camera end up like that), whilst dodging all the forces they've sent after you in revenge using non-violent means.
I'll do some digging into image compression algorithms, and then work out if that kind of thing's plausible for a game that is pretty much forced to be 2D (or very limited 3D)
...
Cool game claxor. I feel a little like i'm over gratifying you saying that as it was so simple and the levels were so disordered. But it was fun and kept me distracted for a while, so thanks.
