I'm working on a shiny new game, it'll hopefully be out next week - I've showed it to a few guys on here (Inglor, Glaiel + Kayn), so they can tell you all about it if they like ;)

Dustball just sent me the music he's done for it, it's so awesome! It's like he extracted the music from my head, its exactly how I wanted it! :D And when Dim gets back from Amsterdam tomorrow, we should be getting some voice acting sorted from egoraptor.

... I'm done showing off now :P

Now you just have to update your website, or are you going to do that with the help of this super fantabolicious game?

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2006-10-12 20:53:04

Lol, I'm gonna update the site as the game comes out, we've actually not had any new content to put on the site for over a year now, hence no updates. Then suddenly we decided to cram a 3D adventure into 6 weeks, and my head nearly melts trying to get it done, but its so nearly there now :D

So I've noticed >:(

But a 3D adventure sounds really cool! What has kept the two of you so busy? University been telling you (well I guess only Dim now, right?) what to do lately?

Perhaps if you showed it to us and we told you good things about it, you could get motivation to finish it.

I've been up to the tits in work lately - both flash and school related, so I won't be around as much. You guys already seem to think I'm gone anyway :P
I'll still be available on AIM most of the time if anyone wanted to report anything.

Lol, I remember watching that on TV. I live almost literally next door to the Galleria (the shopping centre where that was filmed). I wish Balls of Steel was still on, that and Friday Night Project. Good times :'(

What do you think of this game i'm making?

Here it is.
Up to launch nuke and left and right to steer.

I will be in need of an artist, but this is the basic game play. There will be enemy nukes being fired back at you though. What do you think? I think it needs something extra to keep the game play fun (i was thinking perhaps a laser orbiting the earth which you can shoot at enemy nukes). Opinions.

Dibs on the artist job.

As it stands, I'll still be playing Defcon instead of it, but this'll give me plenty of fun when it hits the Portal. I think a very definate theme needs to be worked out for it, and unfortunately the aformenationed game beats you to the Wargames style nuclear war angle.

I'd like to see the world spinning to give it a slightly more difficult edge, and for future levels to have wierder geography - maybe levels that force you to dig into your own terratory to nuke the interior. And radiation clouds would be awesome too...

I like your ideas (especially the weird geography one). I was planning on making it seem like a sort of intergalactical sport of the future. The game itself will be like a galaxy cup (like world cup but with different planets). You play the team of earth, and you play against other planets to compete for the galaxy chapmion title. Each round is set on a different planet and you play a different team (each team might have a different weapon or something) usually equally as good as our nukes though.

I have a feeling the ai will be quite tricky though. I'm sure i'll manage though.

Oh then it's very easy. You need a crowd of spaceships cheering your nukes on, and avatars for your team and the competition in various states of keeping thier cool on big screen teevees. And I think you'd be losing your cool with the background radiation rising...

Making the world spin would rock. I think you could end up doing it with Masks and some nested movieclips. Might be a pain to get it to look right for perspectives (although I think there are some panorama tutorials out there on the net that could inspire, and I'm sure Bitmap Data can make it all better).

Sounds like a winner. Just needs slightly more accurate nukes and the ability to defend yourself. Ground silos that drop from space maybe?

When I upgrade, I probably will too... I think I'll hold out for 9 (I'll have the money then I think, if I put my Masters Degree off...). Anyhow, who do you have in mind for art?

No one imparticular. I'm hardly expecting Adam Philips. Anyone who thinks they could produce both game play art (eg different weapons and planets) and imbetween match art (eg avatars like you said, and aliens from each planet cheering, maybe also a short animation of loads of space ships leaving one planet and going to a different one that can be shown between matches).

Also, what do you guys think of there being some running commentry in each match?

That'd be awsome. If you jit an enemy in one way you get a particular voice, if you get hit, they boo. Or somthing, anyway, that'd be cool :).

Randomly generated running commentary would rock. Though it might beef up your file size unless you play with some exceptionally tricky code (like making a speech synthesiser in Flash that feeds in phonetic arrays to wav samples... effectively your own portable Speakonia).

Mind you, you could always have commentary exceptionally generic and it'd still capture the same effect if it was randomised enough...

Commentator 1: "What an exceptional play from Earth! We've never seen so much carnage! What do you think of it Zyskths'yth?"
Commentator 2: <Random sample of white noise, wailing and other alien sounds mixed in>>
Commentator 1: "Oh Zyskths'yth. You crack me up"

Now we can all see why I don't try writing for comedy any more...
