British sitcoms
In order of goodness:
Green wing, The mighty boosh, The office, Red dwarf, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, The IT crowd, 2 pints of lager, Little Britain (the first series, after that it got too repetative), Alan Partridge, bottom, the young ones, lead balloon, fear stres and anger, extras, my hero, my familyabsolutely fabulous, knowing me knowing you.

In fact, I don't think it is the responsibility of the theater to stop you, it is your parents job. But to make anything less graphic, or less anything for that matter, to appeal to more people is so painful to hear.

Yee, I agree with MethodMinus on this one. It's pretty interesting what you said PinkSkull/Pixelz. It's as if you're thinking of movies as catering to the audience and all being simillar, so you would want movies to fall under the same rules and structures rather than say being more of an art film.

And it's never gunna be pointless, like they just throw in a quicky for the sake of it. One reason it'd be there is to develop the characters a little more - James Bond sleeps with women cus he's a G. Or maybe it's for a plot point, for example in the football factory.

But whatever - sex does sell and that's prob the reason they writ it in in the first place :)

RE: Film ratings
To be honest, I don't think theres any need for film ratings at all. It's not like any films are going to scar you for life. Maybe a month or so, but there would never be any permenant damage. Theworst that could happen is some 12 year old could think he's all hard and walk into a film that would be rated 18, get a bit scared, and laughed at by his friends. At least he would learn his lesson. I think it should be up to you to decide which films you're suitable to see. They should have ratings just as recommendations.

for example, the reason I didn't see hostle when it was out was because it looked scary. Not because it was an 18. But if I felt I'd be able to cope with the film, I should be allowed to see it. Otherwise how am I ever going to know my limits?

For some reason, I haven't seen much of those shows. I know they're meant to be awesome, but I've just never got round to watching them much so I couldn't put them in my list :(

Peep Show back

Yeeeeeeeeeeessss. Genius.

Alot of the shows mentioned aren't sitcoms btw, but whatever they're still good. And Cybex I agree with ya about film ratings - should be just advised ratings rather than enforced. Screenwipe is a good program, but I think it's finished for the series now. I just happen to catch it every so often. "Charlie Brooker should come and sit in my living room and tell me what to watch", blatantly.

Sound Quality

Does anybody know how to get optimal sound quality from streamed music? Event sounds have a lot better quality, but the file size is too big, and the music may begin to get ahead of the animation. Anyone willing to help?

Tom waited to add all the Four Second games to the Collabs section once Firestorm was out. He went back and did all three at once, I don't think he realized that.

Terrible Game Contest
Secondly, would anyone want to participate in the terrible game contest? I think it would be a quick, dirty, funny way to make a small game. I just made one, and it was terribly fun to do (kudos to Glaiel for music). You seriously learn a lot from trying to make your code worse, and it was actually a good experience. Here's my own example, made with Greg Loire from Kongregate.

This would start post pico day, would people be interested in this?

change sound settings :P?

use ACPCM, usually works for me. and if not, copya nd paste the whole movie into thetal end of an old movie with no errors, then rmeov eht eold mvoie fromt he fla so that it's just the new stuff and save as.

I'd be interested but if we were to be doing any sort of game contest, i'd rather have like a 'Team up with random partners' sort of event - have a week to finish or whatever.

That'd be quite fun. Especially if there was no $1000 dollar prize at the end, it would just be for fun that way :)

I'll tell you what. As I'm a good person, I'll take the $1000 from you if you win, yeah?

Re:Terrible game contest

Well it's sort of a unique idea, might be a little fun, but I don't think I'd like, just my opinion.

MOGS---I'd be interested but if we were to be doing any sort of game contest, i'd rather have like a 'Team up with random partners' sort of event - have a week to finish or whatever.

yeah I like a team up with random partners idea, everyone enter as artist or coder and then get randomly paired, would be good fun and you'd meet a new person.

agreed

Drawing

I guess it's not a requirement of flash, but I personally really like to draw. Recently I've kept just a stack of printer paper on my desk and I'll take it and just start drawing what comes to my mind. Yesterday when no one was home I cranked up rage against the machine real loud and started drawing, I think drawing to music helps, kind of assists the creative process. Do any of you do anything like this? I just find it relaxing and fun to put images in my head to paper. Also, I get a real good mental picture of what I'm drawing, like the position someone will be in when they're kicking a guys face off or something, well sometimes I see it really well in my head but other times its harder, I love it when I can see the picture in my head and then it comes out on paper real nice. Yesterday I drew this guy with a fro busting it out on a guitar, and the strings bend way to far and sort of energy shoots out of the guitar...i dunno it was cool and fun to draw, i might scan some stuff and go spam up the art forum one of these days with my arts, but who noes.

Anyway if you read that congratulations.

British comedy
I dont watch it that much, considering how generic I am. I mostly watch Scrubs :)
I've seen all the might boosh stuff though. Most of it isnt very funny, the live show is hilarious though, when I saw it I was pissed at by the fake penis! What would Freud say...

I recall a month or two ago a number of you in this thread were discussing PHP, and how you were taking it up. I remember some of the people discussing it were not programming forum frequenters, so I thought I would let you guys know the programming forum regs put our heads together and are beginning a series of PHP challenges.

If you're interested, you can check out the thread for the first challenge here: http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic.php?id=68 6942

If we're creating terrible games, wouldnt it be better for the coders to do art and the artists to do coding? Or would that defeat the object of being deliberately bad.

Sex Scenes

Non-sense, I don't want it watered down, I believe that sex scenes are added to a movie like 300 just to bump it up to R, in no way do I want the swearing, violence, political-incorrectness watered down, I just think that full on nudity and sex in movies ruins it, because thats not what the movie is about and it doesn't have to be in there. Unless it absolutely ties into the story then ok, but an action movie where they stop to pro-create (fuck) is kinda dumb. Like why didn't Aragorn and the elf chick have sex in LOTR? It could've been added, but it sure as hell wasn't needed.

Movies like V for Vendetta maintain a serious mind boggling aspect without sex, although the gay subject and politicalness was prominent in the movie, they were hinted towards.

As Alice Cooper stated "Its fun to give a glimpse to a subject, but not go right into it, leaves a mystery for the audience" something like that, he basically means that you shouldn't sell out and fully show nudity, or ryhme bucket with fuck it, hinting is more meaningful.

My mom has no problems with me seeing violence but has a huge problem with me seeing sex or druginess (thus I can't play GTA, but I have.) My fav movie as a young child (7 or something) was Mortal Kombat.

Whoa its me!

British comedy

How have you guys overlooked Spaced? Best comedy series.

Terrible games

Was thinking about this the other day... whilst playing Captain Novolin on a Snes emulator. I actually spent £4 on Bubsy 3D, just to experience the badness. I remember playing Asterix (Snes) with friends for longer than it deserved, purely to laugh at it with friends.

Anyway, what was the idea behind your game, john? Laggy code? Lack of game mechanics?

Is there actually any interactivity beyond the play button?

At 4/13/07 07:55 PM, DarkMana wrote: Unnecessary Use of Flash

I don't know about everyone else, but it really annoys me when a website uses flash for something that could easily be duplicated in simple HTML and Javascript. Example: an image flip rollover for buttons and such. To me it seems quite unprofessional and pointless. In the context of web design, I see flash content as a medium that provides rich, fluid, interactive experiences that can't be duplicated in simple mark-up or browser-side scripting, not a replacement for them.

I agree. Can sympathise with those that don't wish to learn the harder coding, but in a professional capacity, I'd agree it's not good.

What if the button's rollover image fades in though?

What if there's some simple animation that could be duplicated with a .gif, but is slightly sharper and a bit smaller with a .swf?

(genuine questions)
