I really want one. Also, i want a projector so i can like have my whole wall as a screen. Any idea how much that'd cost?

Mods aren't really needed that much though. It's not as if without them the forums turn to pieces. I don't think theres any need for the forum to always have at least one mod online. It's certainly not necessary to have more than 1 mod on at a time.

The Distraction Factor
I like to listen to Pandora while working, but I hear that people like to watch tv or a movie while animating or coding. What goes on in the background while you work?

Distraction Faction

I used to go on pandora quite a bit. Since I got my computer at college I've been using ruckus. Its a site that almost resembles filing share, only really in the scale of music you can find. Your college or university used to have to sign up for it but now anyone with an email that ends in edu can sign up. All the files are WMA, so you can't put them on your ipod or anything(which doesn't bother me because I have no MP3 player), but you can find a converter somewhere.

It only gets annoying when you want a certain CD and its not there. Oddly, there nothing at all but the Beatles, Led Zeplin, or Nirvana. There are various other artist with their work not there, but they still have a decent collection of music. They even have some indie shit you wouldn't think you could find.

The only sad part is even with downloading over 80 albums in 5 months(over 1000 songs), I listen to music no matter what I'm doing it seems, so I quickly get tired of an album and I can't think of music to download as fast as I can download it.

Anyway, anyone who is interested can check out www.ruckus.com.

Music is a good option.. i also like to skype while i work.. its so much easier to work and have a conversation with others without having to flip to a window and type it out.

Dual Screens
Half the computers in my school have been set up to have 2 screens, but they actually only have one... programs just disappear off the edge if you're not careful. I'm suspicious that there's this big room with all the 2nd screens in it that the teachers use to spy on us...
I dont see the point in 2 screens anyway, you only have one keyboard and mouse so you can only really do 1 thing at a time anyway. But that's just me. Out of interest, is it possible to have a 3-screen set up? Could you get like 100 screens and wallpaper the room with them and then you can like live inside the internet...?

Also, I'm a lefty, ftw...

Sequel
Dunno if this is the right place for it, but I'm making a sequal to this and I was hoping some of you Flash regs could suggest some new features or improvements for the sequel?

Is that even a question?

I like working without anything to bother me, but if I do play music before animating, I always end up putting it on. I find it best to work at 2 in the morning when I can't play music and the room is dark. I always get everything done at 2.

Music

Music does not need to listened to attentively. Sometimes its nice to have something playing in the background. Also, I play a lot of music just to drown out all the house and pop music and whatever other loud noises are around.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-02-25 15:39:33

Music

I probably couldn't listen to music while working. I just can't multitask well. Anyways, I like to listen to whatever music I'm currently using in my Flash.

DISTRACTION FACTOR
I start to go nuts if I don't have background music/noise going on. When all I have is the hum of the computer case fans going on, I can hear myself think, and I find that signifigantly more distracting.

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-02-25 15:46:47

I listen to as much stuff as I can. MTV, radio, albums, as long as they don't make noise.

RE: Music

is it me, or does this topic come up a lot here? :P

i like listening to music when i work in Flash. i usually try to listen to more 'epic' or inspirational things, such as 'High Hopes' by Pink Floyd and 'The Storm' by Doves. there's something about the harmony of all the sounds that just soothes, clears, and prepares my mind for animation or programming.

the whole "unplug" thing the Animator's Survival Guide preaches just doesn't work. the constant clacking of my keyboard keys just doesn't get me into a mood where i feel like programming.

if anything, i just gotta have some sort of sound besides my computer fan going in in the background. if i absolutely can't listen to music, i usually just listen to it in my head.

i think the one thing i need to do is set my msn status to busy and get my friends on skype. there's nothing more distracting than that "duh-duh-DUH" sound msn makes when a friend types something.

I dunno I don't really agree with that. Actually I think the theory could be sorta true, but also music will motivate you and what not.

I agree with Buzzwerd that I work best late at night, maybe because that's when the TV stops being good, or it's just so dark and calm.

Also going back to what SpenceandTim was saying, animation doesn't need for you to completely zone into it to do anything - you can get through tedious shit, while not thinking about the animation and focusing on the muzac.

Distraction music

Music helps me consentrate, cuz silence is just.. well.. bad.

if i am animating somehting to msuic or lip sync, i will lower the msuic volume or pause it..

i don't understand those people wh say that msuic distracts them when they are working.. or even reading...

if i'm reading, i dont read in silence...

Only thing that distracts me is when i randomly seen seothing just off where i am looking, like random black dots from my insanity.. or when my mind wanders for some reason...

I always listen to music when I'm at the computer, unless I'm watching flash or stuff like that. I read about that "unplug" thing in 'animators survival kit' too, but I don't care, I do what feels good for me and listening to music is inspirational and relaxing.

RE: Music

I don't listen to music when I animate. Since I constantly do lipsync, it would be a pain. But for some reason TV or DVDs don't have the same effect on me. Its both computer and TV that complete my setup. I can't have one without the other. When I'm on the computer, after a while, I NEED to turn on the TV. And when I watch TV, I never feel completely complete without my computer there. I bring my laptop, wacom, charger, and table mate top down into the living room, and work on my flash while watching Flintstones. (It inspires me).

Music

I usually don't go more than 45 minutes w/o having music playing haha...

My Music Schedule
- Wake up, turn iTunes volume up and put on the "morning" playlist
- Take shower, brush teeth, shave, etc...
- Grab iPod, put on headphones
- Catch the bus, goto school, sit in a corner and do w/e homework I didn't do the night before.
- Take headphones off for classes I like hahh
- After school, put headphones back on and take the bus home
- At home, take iPod off and charge it, turn iTunes volume up; WAY up because nobody's home.
- Sit on my ass and draw or read or do homework or w/e for the remainder of the day
- Turn iTunes volume down, put on the "Soft Music" playlist and goto sleep.
- Repeat

Weekends are usually the same thing minus the school part and plus a band practice or rawk show.

Yeah, I'm really methodical. Moral of the story: Music is the shit.

Distraction Factor

I listen to music when I do anything. Why? Because silence makes me unable to concentrate. It's really wierd, but unless I have some sort of varying background noise going on, I can't concentrate at all. That's why I bomb on school tests but I do ace on everything else.

Also, when I do stuff on the computer, when I get bored of one thing I switch to another thing. When I get sick of animating, I check up on forums and e-mail and photoshop shit. When I get tired of that, I play my guitar. When I get tired of that, I work out. When I get tired of that, I work on Dance songs. When I get tired of that, I go outside. When I get tired of that, I get back to animating.

It's a vicious cycle, really, because I never get anything done.

Music Schedules n shit

so what if it's the same topic under a different title?

Anyways, I always listen to my iPod on the bus ride to school and the bus ride back.
