Dali's stuff is too obvious. As much as I dislike the theme of this project, I still want to be original.

also andy warhol is worth looking into... (not too close)

It'd be hard to explain how a can of soup is "unconventional". ;)

Animated Films
@SFB - why is tortoro your favourite? I watched it the other day and although it's really nice, it is essentially a kids film.

I really want to see Iron Giant. When it came out, I heard it was crap so I didn't bother seeing it but more recently I've heard loads of god stuff about it. Also I really love the Incredibles, also directed by Brad Bird.

Some cool animated films I have seen-
The Man Who Planted Trees really nice story and really beautiful animation. If you get a chance to see it, do.
Dad's Dead One of the most disturbing animated films I've seen. It's really not fun to watch but has some really great stuff in it. The mix of animation and live action is flawless. Directed by Chris Shepherd of Slinky pictures.
Who I am and What I Want Also Directed (jointly) by Chris Shepherd but this time really funny. I didn't really like it the first time I saw it a couple years ago but I saw it in October last year with others and found it brilliant and funny. Still retains the same wierd feel of Dad's Dead and is pretty gross in areas but much more lighthearted.
Anything by Michaël Dudok De Wit We watched three shorts by this guy. Wow! I really loved them all, the animation is just spot on. Seriously beautiful work. immense amount of atmosphere and clear story.
Jan Švankmajer Like the origal surrealist stop-motion film maker. More metaphorical meanings here than with the others but some great work. We are always watching his stuff in uni and I'm pretty sure at least one of my lecturers is in love with him.

Just a few things I've seen at uni or at animation events that I thought were pretty decent. If you get a chance, take a look. There are many more but I can't think of them now.
If anyone has see any of these, let me know what you thought. you might be able to find some on youtube.

Yeah, I can vouch for that. It keeps banning people for minor offences, and locking random threads. Like my 5K post party :(

It's weird, because normally Luis wouldn't ban a fly.

There was an artist a few years ago who made a stir in the art world with a piece called piss christ. i dont remember his name but if you google that you'll probably run into him. i really like artists that twist the nipples of the normally snobby art scene.

Studio Ghibli

I love those films. I get lots of animating inspiration from them(although, none of it has been manipulated yet), like the fantasy and the landscapes.

A few of my favorites are Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, The Valley of the Wind, Castle in the Sky, and robably My Neighbor Tortoro. Note: Some may or may not be made by Studio Ghibli.

I watched Princess Mononoke recently and that is fucking awesome. I really like studio ghibli films and other decent anime films like akira but there is definately a cultural difference present from here in the west. I find that some elements I really really enjoy and some bits dont appeal to me at all. Specifically I find that much of the anime stuff I've seen has scrappy endings where it doesnt make much sense and just feels rushed. Princess Mononoke is a prime example fo that.
I enjoy watching miyazaki's stuff mostly for the beautiful animation and try to just let the story flow. I find if I involve myself too much in the story, I end up being dissapointed so now I just settle into the aesthetic and try to suspend disbelief as far as possible.

well i have to say that princes mononoke is by far the best we have alot of is films but we

Shirt Turtle's 'retarded' view on everything=CANCELLED???
Do me? I'm thinking of making a new sig. I'm too lazy to make 'em with the frequency that Luis or some others do.

Maybe I'll put in a preview of my big, big, big project (beta coming summer 2007) to get you excited...

But I do wanna know what impression I give and get vague, amusing inspiration for what I should put in the sig.

I'll do you if you do me. Or I can do you another way if that floats your boat more.

Space and Time's city

it's awesome. I'll have to work this out.

Irony
Johnny incorrectly using an adjective instead of the adverb form? How ironic.

By the by, why do folk misuse 'argument'?

Also: I honestly think all of the things in Morissette's song are somewhat ironic.

I mean, we would expect chardonnay to be better served than to have a fly in it. Likewise, most, if not all of her statements are against expectations and contain humour.

this part its supposed to take place somewhere in the middle.. when they are aware of what is happening..

Pink Skull's Visiontastic Flash
Seems like a good plot. I honestly think it's a kick-ass premise.

regarding shading: what I do is lower brightness, increase saturation and also lower the hue. I sorta use yellow as the brightest colour, going through red, blue, then finishing on green as the darkest colour.

I just find you can get richer results changing all aspects.

If you see colours you like, try eyedroppering them.

Newgrounds City Ransom

Sounds like a great idea, and like most folk, I'd love to be involved and would certainly try and make the time to edit a few sprites for it.

Well, if it's not relevant to the movie, then it's not a cop-out to leave it out. If your movie has no political agenda at all and the only aim is to get folk to chuckle, Saddam's presence only being there to make it relevant, then leaving details out can help focus folk on what actually matters to your 'agenda' (the chuckle).

Blur is Flash 8

It came about after Macromedia was bought by Adobe and they started adopting features from photoshop to use in flash.

Tattoo Appointment

I made a 50 dollar deposit for a tattoo(which may cost me around 250 altogether) for one week from today. The image is something I took from the Pink Floyd album Wish You Were Here. Though I originally wanted wanted the man shaking the other man's hand while on fire I changed my mind when I realized that would cost me a ton and take forever. So I decided to get the robotic arms shaking hands. Still not cheap. Gonna be in the chair for two hours for my very first tattoo, hope I don't get all whiny. Heres an a copy of the image for those who care:

Not true at all, Adobe bought Macromedia a week or 2 after the release of Flash 8, they had nothing to do with its development from my knowledge. They will put loads of effects in Flash 9 though, according to a few sites :P.

Flash 9

Is it just me that thinks thta Flash 9 will just be like photoshop with animation added in? Aswell as so expencive that only the 3 richest people in the universe will be able to afford it.

When it comes out i wont get it, i probs wont ever update mainly due to flash 6 ( version i use) having all that i need. i don't use all that AS nonsence like V-cams and i don't need to blur everything to the point where flash crashes horribly. if i wanna blru seomthgin, i'll use a jpg or a workaround method.

also i cna't afford the £600 or so it'll probs cost.

Will you guys upgrade?

Response to The Flash 'Reg' Lounge 2007-01-04 19:21:22

Re: Flash 9

If Adobe wanted a combination of photoshop and flash then they would do with Illustrator. Its hardly possible in the first place considering one is vector based and the other is raster based.
