Hah, 'Have you got your swimming trunks with you?'. I love old phrases like that.. 'I just pumped' is another one. I'd like to collect all these old, forgotten phrases, grockel being another; and roll them into a big ball. Then just give them a push down a hill back into modern day society. Aha!

Binary
Paranoia, i've seen you posting a lot of binary code, and i was wondering if coding with binary is faster than using if statements or anything like that. i assume it would because, well, computers are essentially made from binary; every transistor is a little "on/off switch" that represents a 1 and 0, so really, wouldn't that mean a lot less work for the computer to parse all of those ones and zeroes into true and false? i dunno.

As far as I'm aware, if and else statements seem to be the fastest method of coding with conditions; marginally more than binary. Binary just tends to look a lot neater, and the difference is pretty much negligible anyway unless you're making a block of code that's going to be repeated many many times per frame; at least when you consider the lag caused by certain class methods and stuff.
In any case, my games benefit a lot more from me being able to code happily than they do from using if statements.
I was wondering if I could get some of you guys to take a look at my newest animation

Kinda bad dude, sorry.
There was hardly any animation in it, I mean if you aren't gonna actually animate your main character then why bother making it a stick? You only have him in two poses, standing and sitting. Would it be so hard to draw a full figure in those two poses?
Of course it would look a bit shoddy even if you replaced the stick because he doesnt walk and when he hits the computer, he's not actually doing anything, the bat is kinda waving back and forth on its own, no force from him. You need to move the arms at least to feel like he's really hitting it.
When he rolls out of the room, he doesnt push away, he just slides, which looks kinda silly. He should use is legs to swivel round and push himself out fo the room.
Also it all moves really slowly. hearing that keyboard sound effect three times nearly made me shut it down and not bother watching the rest. It was so obviously the exact same sound, you hadnt even bothered to hide it and it lasted AGES with nothing else to focus on. The screen stayed the same through his typing and it clearly was not Windows, it was a bunch of lines.
The computer clearly had no mouse, keyboard or speakers which means it's really dumb when he's typing, clicking and most importantly when the computer talks.
The bit where the computer turned into a robot was the best bit but still it had the overused transformers sound and the head looks stupid being much bigger than the body. Again it takes too long to happen and there is no suggestion of where the force is coming from when the head just jumps onto the body and when the body descends onto the floor. Also, though it might be a psycho computer it still has no visual input so maybe you should add a webcam to the stop. The computer could say like "I SEE YOU!" and an image of the guy could appear on the screen instead of that dodgy face.
I think you should make the robot bigger so that it stretches in a really surreal way as it morphs, make it do it faster and make the camera zoom out so that you can see how dwarfed the guy is by the computer/robot. Scrap the transformer noise, unless you just fit it into thr backgroudn subtly, find some clicks clanks and electronic sounds instead. download audacity (it's free, google it) and play around with some sounds. You could use it to fix the repeated keyboard sound as well. If you need sounds, check out sounddogs.com or findsounds.com (if they're spelt wrong - google) If you wanna do some lip sync, check out cybex' lipsync tool.
Maybe while the guy is typing, have some tinny music coming from the speakers and when the computer freezes, have the music stop, maybe a long annoying beep start to show it has crashed.
These are just a few things you could do to improve it because at the moment i dont think it really stands a chance in the portal.
I know I have said a lot of things were wrong with it but at least you are trying. I hope I haven't offended you and that you try and use all this advice otherwise I just wasted my time. Personally, my main suggestion would be to give full animations a break for now and try and develop your animation skills by doing some walks, runs, jumping, fighting etc. Try watching Luis' weekly challenges going on in the flash forum atm, they are a great way of learning.
Hope this helps and doesnt piss you off
Masterswordman - He didnt ask for help on it but was your comment really helpful? Just because bold titles are fading out doesnt mean spam is fading in, eh?
RE: Binary Coding
A lot of binary is much faster, a common one being this:
if(!GO){} rather than if(GO==false){}
Somewhere there is a thread where dEltaluca and some others ran a bunch of speed tests about various things. That one has a quite large difference. A couple others where these:
if(go){//this}else{//that} is better than go ? //this : //that rendering conditionals only good for neatness.
another one...
var+=1 is better than var++ and var++ and ++var are equivalent.
I found the thread, and Paranoia was a part of it also :)

I'm just getting a bunch of my friends to my house for a chill evening, grats on your AG game win btw, even if that's off topic and late
RE: New Years
Probably what I do every year. Meet relatives, drink cider, watch crappy pop bands play in Times Square.
Gonna be awesome...
RE: New Years
Going down to my buddy Ross's house (The guy who does all of the songs for my games.. "Gunshy" on NG)
and getting really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really stoned.
We'll chase that with some booze.
And write some music.

It does indeed. I havent smoked weed in a few weeks so hopefully someone there will have some. Last time I went to this kids house me and my friend just sort of got left out (we wern't invited and just turned up really late) so sat outside and did a few shotties. Last years eve when I went to his house I got with his girlfriend too (whos now his fiance) so.. whoops see what happens :D.
Doing what I do everyear going to famillies and watching time square

before you post flash like that, think to yourself: will anyone actually enjoy this? if not, don't post it. christ.
anyway, the part where the brown dildo started vibrating against the monitor was kinda funny.
oh, and don't worry, you didn't use shitty, overused music and a cliche topic (windows 98 sucks), and it most definitely didn't sound like you were trying to keep quiet while cussing so your parents don't give you a spanking and wash your mouth with soap.
RE: I call it Evil Computer
I kind of liked it. I would fix a few minor things but i thought it was pretty good. I liked the simplicity of the character .. it sort of forces you to think about the mindless lives we as humans live pounding away at these machines... and i really began to feel the isolation of it all. I thought that the computer transforming was a perfect way of ending it because number 1 transformers comes out in 2007 and it got me hyped for it and 2 it provides enough humor to sort of not take the film too seriously. i think that something you could do next time is really developed the transformed computers personality i think you could be on to something good with that. It can go any of 1000 ways from here on .. from a commentary on machines taking over and control of our lives to a humorous pun on todays favorite electronics.

I'm probably going to my friends house then walking around the streets for I dunno, 8 hours. Probably walk up to my other friends house (he wont be there) and sleep in his garage.
Oh, and all this while completely drunk.

Well, we usually don't sing. Sometimes we play card games and gamble. Except its usually not me who does that.
Anyways, we might visit relatives or just stay home and watch movies again.

You sound like quite a boring character :(
As for me, I'm going with my girlfriend to a party at a friends house. It should be pretty interesting, even though I have no idea who or what will be there. But how can you go wrong with staying up all night long with a bunch of friends doing who knows what?
