I'm just seeing if there really is an edit button.
what

EDIT: Darn, oh well. :)
I kind of like the idea of no edit button actually.
That way threads like dickneck can't be deleted by the person who posted it.

Damnit, call me a moron, but the new forums sadden me, particularly the collab and animation forum. I have the feeling the Flash forum will be kinda redundant now. The only threads that will be posted here from now on are probably going to be AS related questions, and people asking for Flash serials and non-existant Flash substitutes... It's like someone teared apart my house. Meh.

I kinda wonder if all existing projects/threads need to remade or moved to the new threads?
Couldn't we move this thread over to the Clubs and Crews forum haha

nah, i think for the sake of preventing redundancy just let current threads stay and then any new ones, we'll just have to be on our toes to redirect them to the proper forums. I think the new forums are a good idea cause it was getting a bit sloppy with the legitamate actionscript questions and the collab threads. I dont really think this forum will suffer because the people that made the most use of it aside from collabs was actionscripters anyway. Maybe having an animation forum will be less intimidating to the folks interested in that side of flash.

Are the collab requirements staying the same!?

Haha, hopefully he set up his database to take as much advantage as possible of the id system NG has for forums. Then it shouldn't be too bad.
This is certainly new! So is the Flash forum designated for flash-specific (i.e. using the IDE) and AS questions only? Not sure how I feel about that.. it seems a bit redundant. Adding a Writing and Collaboration forum is excellent, and I understand people use Animating software other than Flash (like.. um.. well.. just toonboom, I hope) and that gearing a forum towards a specific subject means people visiting it are more likely to know the answer to the queries or be able to join in their discussions, but it kinda makes the Flash forum redundant. I guess I don't frequent enough, and certainly not participate (creatively) enough for it to matter too much to me, but just my 2 cents.
I'd definitely like to see Forum icons, rather than the posts since last visit icons, because it just means every forum (and of course there are quite a few now) all have the same icon, 98% of the time. I'm sure it'd be quite difficult to draw 32x32 icons to describe each forum, but it'd look a lot more interesting (and make it easier to navigate?) than it is now.
Sup, bitches :)
Hey guys! Luis finally has a job!

YOU HEAR THAT LUIS?
As glad as I am for the animation forum, it does make me a little sad that I'll be spending less time with the more Flash oriented folks.
Is it possible to move any established collab threads to the Collab forum, so that it can be in the proper place, or should ones like the one I'm hosting just continue on until they release in April/May?
So...what now guys? is this where we part our seperate ways, programmers head to programming forum and Animators to animators forum?
RIGHT AFTER I MADE THE ANIMATORS TIPS/TRICKS THREAD TOO!!! BFJLSDKFSD!
Luis can you move it to the other forum? :P
Also is there gonna be like, Animators Reg lounge? Or do we come back here now? Everything i know is wrong :(
At 1/26/10 06:59 PM, Duchednier wrote: RIGHT AFTER I MADE THE ANIMATORS TIPS/TRICKS THREAD TOO!!! BFJLSDKFSD!
Actually I think it's best off here in the Flash forum, as most of the tips and tricks are Flash related instead of necessarily being about animation technique.
I agree that this is still a good place for the lounge, this forum covers the program in general, rather than concerning a particular facet of the program such as animation or programming, specifically.
Lol, I also just noticed the forum jump hasn't incorporated the new forums yet as well.

Topics regarding Actionscript will still go here, and imo those about animating in Flash should still go in this forum as well (and all other animating in the animating forum) although I don't think that's what the staff had in mind.

I think this forum should main be about AS2/3, the Flash IDE and things like Flex and Air etc.

Or technicalities about the program itself such as discussing different versions of flash. I think the Admins need to change the description to something more like that.

Mutli-stage launch yo!

I think perhaps learning how to use Flash as a tool to animate should still go here, but discussing and learning actual animation techniques should go in the animation forum, whether it's Flash or otherwise.

Programmers would always go to the programming forum, but still come here. Since this forum is still for actionscript, then people will stay. I can't say the same thing about animators, but I don't think the animation forum will be very successful just because I'm a huge skeptic.
At 1/26/10 05:27 PM, liam wrote: but it kinda makes the Flash forum redundant.
Its redundant now, but as the site grows it will also grow in the files it accepts so it will be less redundant as time goes on i think. Alot of animators are finding the beauty of integrating video and premiere/after effects and as that affinity matures, the animation forum will seem more all-encompassing. Also the animation forum isnt just q&a, theres alot of neat things in terms of animator specific q/a sessions (AMA) general movie critiques / etc. I think it makes it easier if all you care about is animation to browse through topics that interest you.
I think this forum has always been programming heavy and that also brings its advantages, such as having its own set of programmer AMA's and other fun shit. We'll see how it pans out.

I thought the explanation was pretty straightforward.
The Flash forum is now categorized under "Developer & Programmer" forums, which are geared towards programming languages and authoring tools.
Flash IDE + Actionscript and relevant authoring tools.
My God...I disappear for a few hours, and everything on the NG forums has gone wacky. I seriously thought I cracked my spine the wrong way, and was treated to a LSD hidden powerup from the early 90's.
I'm sorta kidding. I'm glad that things evolve and change, but it did really trip me out. ;)

Yes, that's what I was saying, and animation technique and other animation specific in the animation forum.
I really think they should have though about how these forums would work first and specifically what each one would be used for. Hopefully once the rules for each forum are specified more clearly and the mods work our what should be allowed in each forum, everything will work a lot better then it did.

That's how it should work now. Anything about animation go in the animation forum which means there shouldn't be anything about animation in the Flash Forum leaving the Flash forum just for all that stuff that mike has mentioned.
