Its nice but the black text needs a white glow to make it have good contrast.
As it stands, on the far left, "Adobe" blends in with the blue and the "o" in "Professional" is not too visible.

I was gonna suggest that but forgot, though apparently Xeptic suggested it already, I think he stole the idea from me anyway. He's in mah head.

At 9/28/08 05:38 PM, Musician wrote: I guess I just don't get this then. I don't see what so fun about manually typing in the coordinates of every vector image on the stage.

It's not just the drawing aspect of it, it's just that you have to code everything really differently when you use only code. It's also a lot easier to keep track of what is going on with all your objects, there's a lot less confusion when things go wrong :p

It does require the trouble of manually typing in the code for every piece of art. it also looks ugly.

Like I said, it's easier to keep track of all the current objects when you're drawing them with code. It's also really quite easy.. I mean, basic shapes don't take long to draw (squares, circles) in AS2 (especially if you prototype a MovieClip function, drawCircle, drawSquare, etc) or in AS3 which has drawCircle already.

Why? It's not necessarily an impressive feat. It's just tedious.

It's just cool to create something without any predrawn stuff :/ It's not tedious because it's fun! A strange kind of fun I know, but it's not boring :P

A vast overstatement. The file size for that image is about 7kbs. Assuming you're able to make each game less than a kb, you would still be stretched to fit even a dozen games in there (though that still would be impressive). Your point about filesize is noted, I'm just not sure it makes it worth it.

True toast kinda bullshitted there, but a full, pretty, API game can be done in around 10kb which is nothing compared to the 5mb+ games of today. I don't think making a full game in API is a good idea (although if you look at Denvish's games, he has several API games which are brilliant), it's.. fun.

Well, more time than it would to make a game without API with similarly simple graphics.

Lies.

SUPER FUCKING COMPUTER
I was just at a friends flat and she has 2 PCs (1 mac, her main, and a PC which is new). The PC is fucking amazing. nVidia 9800gtx graphics card, quad core 3ghz intel processor, 8 (FUCKING EIGHT) GB of ram, dual widescreen monitors.. and that's all set up at the end of her bed >.< The only games she has are Frontline: Fuel of War and Dues Ex. She's never used a PC but got this beast made for £1500 so she could play games, so I put Dues Ex on (because the disc was in) and it was insane, it looked good at 1440x1000 res despite the game being like 10 years old. I'm gonna borrow Crysis and install it on her PC, for sexwee.. she could easily run it at full settings, no lag.. FUCK!!!!

It was pretty.

Ok I bullshitted a bit there. But still, it's possible to make API applications that have less than 500bytes filesize. The average NG icon is 11KB. so yeah. "dozens" was a correct word usage.

Those are some beastly specs. It doesn't really matter how many GB of RAM you got though, it's how fast they run (how much Mhz). I don't think anyone needs 8GB RAM, so if you're a serious gamer you'd better shoot for a very fast 4GB. But yeah Crysis should look freaking smexy on that computer. Speaking of Crysis, I just downloaded the Crysis Benchmark to test my computer. At low settings on everything, 800x600 resolution, and no AA, it runs at average 18FPS (18fps just when the camera flies around the island.. no actual gameplay). Then I tried medium settings and it just couldn't handle it lol. even at 800x600 it went under 0.4 FPS.

Thanks to you guys I got really into computers and stuff, I know so much about computers that I guess I could go work in a computer building workshop. As for your friend's computer, 9800gtx is extremely good but it's not the best. Some reckon that the 4870HD is the best graphic card around, or 280GTX 2 if you like Nvidia. The processor is also good, but I don't think Quad core is the best option for gaming. If I were your friend I'd shoot for an intel dual core extreme.

You might wanna check out this site, I found it through youtube. The guy has dozens of computers, he buys all the best hardware and builds them customized. It's really impressive, he owns some of the best gaming PCs in the world. He also writes reviews, mainly about graphic cards.

Crysis benchmark all settings on "very high", highest resolution, highest AA... you get the point. runs at 40 fps.

Wow, next year my NG account will be 5 years old. That's weird to think about. Newgrounds doesn't feel like something recent anymore (and hasnt for a while), it feels more like an institution. I think back and there is distant memories of newgrounds, same way there's distant memories of friends i've had or places i've been in the past. Weird.

Audio Songs W/ Flash Ads

Ok, well, I'm working on a basic game, I really have all the coding done (I'm trying to overcome my OCD of not submitting a game by making a basic one, stupid eh? but It's annoying to plan out an uber project and stop, for w/e reason) but I haven't got a response back from the audio peps (only two songs) and I was wondering how long I should wait before just submitting the damn thing?

One of the people was on 3 days ago, but the other, could've been as long as a year ago... so... yeah.

My halls just had a fire alarm, at 7:55 AM, on the first day of uni. Why do they hate us so? I was lieing in bed for 2 minutes thinking "Is that my alarm clock? It CANNOT be the fire alarm, they wouldn't.." then I looked outside at all my cold roommates :( Though there were only about 50 people outside whereas there are about a hundred staying here, I guess some people DID stay in bed.

So 2 years of sleep, nice aye? >.>

Seriously, I really don't understand how our society thinks that, "OMG your lame cause you enjoy learning!"

I don't think books are necessarily linked with learning; I read quite a bit but I wouldn't consider any of my reading material to be educational.

Well I'm not a flash regular, in fact I'm just getting started in the flash world so I'm not even at the 'beginner' stage yet.

I was just wondering if someone could mind telling me what program you use? Just because I've seen an Adobe version and a Macromedia MX version and I'm puzzled on which to get.

Anyone mind helping a poor noob?
