Well the SS has submited a few good flashes but they are slim to none. But i think that there should be some kind of lock or something that dis allows mass voting 5s to get a flash through. Now, that is not necessarily true. It's more of a phenomenon I call 'expectation voting', and it requires no action by the SS/KK/whoever.
Simply put, the people of the portal expect that a submission is going to pass, and give it a passing score regardless of what the flash is. It is that force, not the force of the group, that contributes the most to more spammish flash passing.
Hell, I know it happens on many of my flash...if I was some nameless nobody with no flash, there's no way that my 4/20 flash would have passed (it was close as it is).
Now, do other SS members vote 5 on their own flashes? Of course they do. Just like how all flash authors/co-authors fifen their own work. Nothing wrong with that. It's more the public to blame for any 'unworthy' flash passing.
Of course, we must also remember that not everyone has the same definition of 'quality'. I, myself, have given a good chunk of flash passing scores today, not because I want protect points (no point, I'm EGSC, anyway), but because I enjoy it; anyone who looks at my stuff knows that I have progressive views on quality. A flash can suck graphically and still rock; a flash can be beautiful and still suck; and a flash can be pointless and quick and still make me laugh. I've by no means given fives to everything today, but I think I've given a passing score to most of the SS flash (the ones SS members made, not the posers that are flooding the portal). It doesn't mean I'm a point-whore, it means I have a different sense of what 'good flash' is.
So everyone, just go out there and vote how you feel, regardless of what others think. Not based on points, but based on what you like.
That's all that can be expected of you.
