Don't worry. I didn't even know there was a Star Day, and forgot the date of Pico Day. Clock Day is burned into my mind after that 1500 flashes enter, 1475 flashes leave.

Nevertheless, today shall be a good day for b/ping.

Yes it should. Maybe I can get to 1750 by the end of the week.

I never knew we had a Barracks Mess. How come no one ever told me about this?

You should see my bunk. You never know what's behind that....

Oh well, after I eat to my heart's content, I'll probably forget about asking that question anyway.

Trust me, you don't want to eat whatever kind of "cookie" is behind my bed.

I'm a day ahead of schedule I thought I'd get to 1800 by tomorrow, and I'm well over that today. Maybe if the portal continues to fill up tonight, I can be close enough to 1900 by tomorrow to get to it that evening. I just might make it past my goal once Pico Day rolls around. I think I can earn under 200 b/p in a week.

I can't be bothered to quote anyone, so you will have to make do with some random ramble of a post.

It's been kind of slow around here the last couple of days, so I haven't really posted. Rest assured I've been floating around though, so nothing has got past me. I was out for a chunk of yesterday playing tennis in a local Denver league- my first match in almost a year in fact. Much to my amazement I got an undeserved 7-6, 7-5 victory over a player who was frankly a lot better than me. Thankfully playing defensively and just chasing down everything led to him making mistakes and a win for me :D

Congrats to anyone that deserves it- I'm sure there have been a few people that have ranked up over the weekend.

It's good to see that Coop has taken over one the lists, as we all know what a stat whore he is :p. I posted about the AUS situation in the top 300 list, so I won't repeat myself here, but it is a shame to see such a well respected user stop posting. That won't be a list I'll be getting onto any time soon anyway, with just 18 responses to my name currently...

Star Day is frustrating me at the moment. I hate it when there are so many UJ entries, and yet I seem to be getting so few points. Seemingly everything I vote to blam (and that has been a lot today) is getting through anyway, meaning I am getting roughly the same number of points today as I would on any other day. I'd by lying if I said I was surprised by this.

Almost 200 points for me since Saturday evening, so I'm not going too badly so far this week. I'll need to keep my pace high if I am going to cement a place in the top 50 by August- my current aim.

*salutes*

As many UJ submissions as there are today, if you can't get points, you need to quit NG. It's like when they finally find the cure for AIDS.

I just reviewed the first couple of submissions on that list, and I'm going to carry on working my way through the rest of them over the course of the evening :). Some of these I hadn't seen before as I was inactive last Summer while I had no connection when I first came to Denver, so it is good to look back over your older work and see how much you have improved since then.

I refuse to compromise my voting moral values just to gain extra points. Many of todays submissions aren't good enough to pass in my opinion, and so I am voting accordingly. As such I'm not getting nearly as many points as I should be, but then that is often the case on these 'special' days. I'm voting how the system is supposed to work, and what we in the Barracks are supposed to uphold.

Perhaps it should be 'if you ARE getting points, you should quit NG'.

Yes. People like Snerd who are stat whores make these flashes pass. They say "Oh, since every fucking person on Newgrounds is voting 2/5 on any Star Syndicate flash, I might as well and get the points". I hate those people. They make this site look like shit, because their being stat whores. Although clubs like the NGPD and the EGB are fun, I think Tom should have never added a system to reward blam/protect points.

Perhaps it should be 'if you ARE getting points, you should quit NG'.

Truth. Although, there are a couple good and a couple bad flashes that pasted. But they weren't any SS tributes.

Unfortunately the system wouldn't work at all if there were no points gained from voting on UJ submissions. If there were no points to be gained the vast majority of people wouldn't vote on them, and we'd be left with pages of UJ submissions sitting in the portal. I confess that if the points weren't there I wouldn't B/P half as much as I am either- it is a pretty thankless task and the only rewards you get are new ranks and rivalries with other users. People just need to stop abusing the system.

Truth. Although, there are a couple good and a couple bad flashes that pasted. But they weren't any SS tributes.

Yeah, by no means am I blamming everything, but I would say that I have handed out twice as many blams as saves today, yet gained more protect points than blams overall. It's frustrating, but that is part of B/Ping these days, and I'll continue to uphold the right message in the hope that the stat whores start to take notice and improve their voting habits. After all my VP is pretty hefty these days :D

Well the SS has submited a few good flashes but they are slim to none. But i think that there should be some kind of lock or something that dis allows mass voting 5s to get a flash through. Cause i know thats how most of the SS and other crews like them get there flashes through even though they are horrible.

That isn't necessarily true actually. Taking a message out of one of Wade's posts from a few months back (sorry, can't be bothered to find the real post)...

The reason spam submissions pass isn't crew members mass voting them with a bunch of alts. Users who do mass vote with alts find themselves deleted extremely quickly, and there simply aren't enough crew members on at any one time to get something to pass just by their votes. The reason submissions pass is because ordinary users see a particular group or author has made the flash, think to themselves these always pass, and give it a 2 for the points. Wade specifically said that if everyone who voted 2 voted 0 on these submissions they would be blammed almost every time.

A perfect example of this is Fleek.

When Fleek first came on the scene every single one of his submissions was blammed. No exceptions. He then joined a group, with a number of authors who regularly had submissions that passed, and his flash began to pass. Once he had gained a number of passing flash in his account, he started submitting on his own again, and they start to pass as well. The overall quality hadn't changed, but now he was in the bracket of an author who always passed, and so the stat whores started to give him 2's instead of 0's.

Disclaimer- I am not saying that all Fleek submissions are spam, or that you should blam all of them. Naming names is a risky game, but it is a good example that illustrates my point, so I'll take that risk. Every submission should be watched and voted upon accordingly, regardless of the author and their history, and even the worst authors can produce something protect worthy. I am not promoting mass voting in any way.

Out of interest, there is another Wade post where he threatens to delete all of the stats on any account that consistently votes 5 on spam submissions, and with luck one day he will go through with his threat.

Now, that is not necessarily true. It's more of a phenomenon I call 'expectation voting', and it requires no action by the SS/KK/whoever.

Simply put, the people of the portal expect that a submission is going to pass, and give it a passing score regardless of what the flash is. It is that force, not the force of the group, that contributes the most to more spammish flash passing.

Hell, I know it happens on many of my flash...if I was some nameless nobody with no flash, there's no way that my 4/20 flash would have passed (it was close as it is).

Now, do other SS members vote 5 on their own flashes? Of course they do. Just like how all flash authors/co-authors fifen their own work. Nothing wrong with that. It's more the public to blame for any 'unworthy' flash passing.

Of course, we must also remember that not everyone has the same definition of 'quality'. I, myself, have given a good chunk of flash passing scores today, not because I want protect points (no point, I'm EGSC, anyway), but because I enjoy it; anyone who looks at my stuff knows that I have progressive views on quality. A flash can suck graphically and still rock; a flash can be beautiful and still suck; and a flash can be pointless and quick and still make me laugh. I've by no means given fives to everything today, but I think I've given a passing score to most of the SS flash (the ones SS members made, not the posers that are flooding the portal). It doesn't mean I'm a point-whore, it means I have a different sense of what 'good flash' is.

So everyone, just go out there and vote how you feel, regardless of what others think. Not based on points, but based on what you like.

That's all that can be expected of you.

Lol at almost identical response posted less than 30 minutes after me :D. Our first two sentences are almost exactly the same!

Anyway, you have a point as well. Everything is down to personal preference, and by no means do graphics count for everything to make a good flash. They are the first thing I look for, but plenty of poorly animated submissions that I have seen I have passed for other reasons.

What I do object to is the blatant spam, much of which has been submitted by people trying to use star day as a way to pass their own flash as Slash said. Without graphical quality a flash needs to be funny or interesting to make up for it, and a random flashing image isn't funny in my opinion. I also object to any submission with a pretty preloader and opening that then descends into a flashing image- there are a lot of these and they are the reason all submissions should be watched in full.

But I have passed SS submissions today as well- some of them have been quite good, and prove that most of the crews on NG do have a real purpose in producing good flash. The CC in particular, as the original crew, often produce great flash, and also help a great deal in teaching inexperienced artists how to animate.

Yeah, I'm on a bit of a posting spree at the moment as I'm too tired to do anything but that and review Slashes submissions- 6 down, 3 done before, so 8 more to go :). Voting fairly is something I care a lot about though after spending so much time B/Ping in the portal, and I'll carry on driving that message home until you are all sick of it :D

I got around 100 points today, with another 20 UJ, so a very good day for a week day. Still not that great considering the overall number of submissions, but I've explained the reason for that already. About 250 since Saturday evening and the top 300 update.

Slash is busy responding to my six reviews at the moment, hehe. I was too tired to review the other 8, but I'll get around to it, probably on a slow day at work. As he commented in one, I do write long reviews, but then I like to comment on everything I see :). At least that gives him plenty to respond to!

Plus I don't want to get any review bans- I've still never been banned in any way on NG, and that is how it is going to stay!

Again I have been away from this great club for a long time. I am really sorry for this, I just cant seem to find the time or strength to do so lately. I am sure its just a phase and I will be back to posting again here more in the near future.

I am now edging ever closer to making the top 300 b/pers list! 334 at the moment!

I am also ever so close to joining the 5 digit club! Less than 100 points away from having 10000 b/p points! WOOOOO!

Congratulations to Sentio on making EGSC! Good work my friend! (I know I am a bit late with the congrats!)

I look forward to getting involved in some more conversation from now on. Talk all, TALK!

Also, Does anyone else notice that there are NO UJ submissions in the portal at the moment?
