In honor of Flash being EOL this day and how it was when I joined 15 long years ago, I've decided to spontaneously return for a quick message.

I wish everyone a happy new year and may it be better than whatever 2020 has been.

It's so good to hear from you ! As one of the original members of the Elite Guard, you helped pave the way for the continued success of the Barracks, and were definitely part of the heart and soul of all that went on here. Yes, things have changed over the years, but we've adjusted and adapted and continue to fight the good fight.

I can tell you that I am extremely proud and honored to be the CBO over such a fine group of members here. They work tirelessly to keep the portal clean, leading by example and having a good time doing so. When the NGPD shut down, we instituted an ROTC program for newer users so they could be part of the Barracks while learning the ropes. Our numbers have gone up and down, but the mission never wavered.

It's sad to see Flash retired, but that was just a palette for the animator's work - now they'll use HTML5 or Unity or any of the other new tools that are a bit more secure. They'll still have a place here to showcase their work, and we'll make sure that everything stays in balance. I'll be uninstalling my Flash CS 5.5 shortly in memoriam to the greatness that was Flash Animation - and as to where we go from here, we shall see.

Before you wander off again, if you have any good stories or memories you'd like to share, we'd love to hear them. I'm sure all the newer members would enjoy some reminiscing from one of the original founders - and if you ever want to make your visit more permanent, we'll put you back on the active duty roster in a heartbeat!

Happy New Year, everyone! As we end one year and start a new one, it is my resolution to you all to do so with hope and positivity. The world is a crazy place, but looking back, it's always been that way. Here, in the Barracks, we 're all working together, keeping the balance in the Portal and helping others when they need it. I will keep focused on those goals, and continue to build on the strengths of our members. We've got a good group here, and I want to keep it that way.

The truth is that we have a lot more in common than we have differences, and those differences don't matter here. In here, we are all on equal ground. We are all people who want to do the right thing, volunteering our time to help out any way we can.

We are all good people, and I am proud and honored to serve with you all. To quote from "Metallica:"

"..Trust I seek and I find in you,

Every day for us something new.

Open mind for a different view,

And nothing else matters"

That's what it's all about - we trust each other, and don't get caught up in the nonsense beyond that. Real simple.

As for wrapping up 2021, congrats to now Captain @ZJ on his recent promotion, and to EGSC @Guthrie, @Little-Rena, @Asandir , @Exedor and all the others who continue to lead by example and keep everything working smoothly.

Back in the day the RP of the groups here were tremendous fun. I started off with the "Mafia" Group although I have no clue if they're active these days or not. Then Eagle started this place and it served as a sort of counter-balance to the more chaotic Mafia.

In both clubs I found people who wanted to belong to a group and who had fun together. I made friendships that lasted years. A decade after this club was formed I could talk to Eagle on Skype and just chit-chat for bit. I don't know if it's still a thing but there were days filled with spam submissions organized by various kids trying to mess with the system and we'd always work together like it was an actual job to deal with them.

The technology moved on and as we moved from chatting with each other over AIM to MSN messenger and Skype, some people were lost along the way and became inactive. I used custom GIFs in MSN to crash other people's computers as a joke that didn't take too long to get old for them.

I still have screenshots on old drive of several of us in AIM chatting drunk and sharing webcam pics for no good reason. Personally The 24/7 nature of dealing with submissions and keeping stats became just too much eventually and I had to focus on jobs that actually paid.

With that said, 2021 will be a busy year for me at work, Covid has changed the way we do things and since the company's product relates to work-from-home software and hardware, I'm a very busy man these days. I just hope the people here are still able to make friends and have fun the way I did.

I may pop-in once in a while but I believe in letting sleeping dogs lie, there will always be those here who will see to the fact that NG submissions are treated fairly.
