Perhaps someone can doodle up a new rank for 80 grand? It would make me feel better, I suppose.

Yes, I can understand that. When I reach 60,000 B/P last year, it was literally a "double" SC amount. Kind of lackluster. I just hit 70K this week, and again, no new icons. But since you asked, I think that there should be new ranks above Supreme Commander:

Supreme Commander: 30,000 -39,999
Admiral: 40,000 - 54,999
Planetary Admiral: 55,000 -74,999
StarSystem Admiral 75,000 -99,999
Galaxy Admiral: 100,000-150,000

Or something like that. Then we could tweak some of the rank Icons (or make new ones). Based on my little fantasy here, you're a StarSystem Admiral, and your rank icon would look like this:

Conversely, I've thought about this and I don't think that people should just get more ranks added to the system for the fact that they have hugely impressive B/P amounts, despite the "cap" still remaining at a paltry 30k.

You've got to think along the lines of the new people coming into Newgrounds - they look up at the highest ranking people and see that some people are impressive or sad enough to reach these dizzying heights and realise that it's something that they might want to try for themselves. 30k is a solid 2 year commitment, if you're getting into it at the reduced pace of the portal these days.

Personally, to satisfy both camps, I'd suggest a boost to Voting Power for every 10k past Supreme Commander (You can't outrank Supreme Commander, by definition, surely) and that way both sides of the argument can be satisfied.

How does that sound?

It'd be very awesome if Tom adds new ranks, it'd give the site a fresh look, and not the same thing when you enter somebody's page everytime, you see that tank with wings. It kind of looks boring to reach it, you think "Oh, a lot of people have it, what's the reason of reaching it??"

If they add new levels, the SC's would have a new motivation to keep B/Ping and the newcomers would have more motivation too, since there would have new badass icons to reach and to say shit like "Hah, I'm a fucking NG President" (NG President would be the supreme rank. lol)

But, in my pace right now, I'll only reach SC in 2014. It wouldn't make any difference to me if there's new ranks to achieve... :)

Anyway, liked the idea Bytes!

Sounds like a big bowl of dissatisfaction.

I understand some consideration needs to go to the newer users who want to have a chance to make it this far, but what if the top 100 B/P users for example, could see an alternate set of ranks in their user page. For the common Joe it would still be an EGSC pic, but to B/P ranks 100 and lower, a little extra artwork, flare and love is given. Something kept in relative secrecy, about as much as the account secrets our accounts contain which we will not discuss.

Voting power is a nice idea, but it's almost without weight compare to the average spammer that can easily use 15 accounts and cancel out all that mighty voting power.

Stolen flash:

Original link:

http://ffive.ds2620.dedicated.turbodns.c o.uk/game.html

Original author: F5 Networks

The game was posted in 2007 as a competition of some sort but I don't really know much about it though I'm pretty sure this guy isn't the original author of the game since he's already posted another game that was stolen from a different site.

Another one for today:

Original link:

http://old.towerstimes.co.uk/media/games /spinball.htm

Original author: Alton Towers

This is the second stolen flash that he submitted for today and it's pretty clear that this is not his own game since it even shows the website where the game is from. Hopefully this one doesn't pass through like the other one he submitted.

It'd only be a matter of time before word gets out, and having any kind of competitiveness for the top 100 spots would only cause savewhoring to go through the roof. IMO, it's bad enough as it is without more rewards spurring it on.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they disallowed voting through proxies recently. As a result, voting with multiple accounts is very difficult if not impossible now.

I would respectfully disagree here. Regardless of a pretty icon, there will always be save-whores who want to be the best. They look at Bahamut's list (top 300) and know what they need to get to be in the top 100 or 50 or 20. I doubt that by recognizing higher amounts of b/p with a new set of higher-level icons you would increase save whoring. There are thousands and thousands of registered members of Newgrounds. How many have abandoned B/Ping well before 30K?

Compared to ALL of the user base in Newgrounds, only a small group of us (Phantom, Coop, myself, etc) have been around for many years and worked our way up to the top. If you notice, not too many others really are climbing - but a lot of activity within the top to fight for position. Would a change in the rank icon make it less (or more) competitive? No. But recognition to those who have reached the higher numbers, such as with an "Admiral" class of ranks, would be nice. We don't B/P just for points here, but as in real life, those who serve in the military and consistently do well eventually do get promotions. The ranks go up to 5-star admiral, and then Joint Chiefs and ultimately Commander-In-Chief (the President). There is nothing wrong for recognizing a job well done.

Voting power is a nice idea, but it's almost without weight compare to the average spammer that can easily use 15 accounts and cancel out all that mighty voting power.

If the increase in voting power is geometric, a few very-high level users could control the portal. Not sure how the voting power is calculated, but if it were up to me, all users with 30K or more total BP would be sorted (high to low) by their total NG experience level. The bottom user (at least 30K B/P, lowest experience) would get a total vote power of 8.0 - the highest user would get 12.0 . Everyone else would be somewhere in the middle, and based on their total experience %, get that amount.

Example: (just for explanation)
Lowest user: 40K total experience (8.0 V/P)
Highest user: 100K total experience (12.0 V/P)
If I had (for the sake of this example) 55K total experience, I would get a 9.0 VP

VP = 8 + 4 * (( my exp - min exp) / (max exp - min exp))
VP = 8 + 4 * ( ( 55 - 40) / (100 - 40) )
VP = 8 + 4 * ( 15/60)
VP = 8 + 4 * (1/4)
VP = 9

Each night, the max and min changes, as well as the individuals total stats. This method of generating a voting power based on total relative experience rewards users to not only B/P, but stay active in the forums, post and review.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they disallowed voting through proxies recently. As a result, voting with multiple accounts is very difficult if not impossible now.

Yes, I think the voting pages have certain detection algorithms to detect this type of connection

AHEM. I understand that reference, but since (a) I have never had a penis of my own, and (b) I have fought cancer myself and won, you may wish to think of other analogies as you describe the mindless statwhoring of the majority of newgrounds - and wonder when Tom and Wade will create a set of "Regulator" mods that can put a flash directly into "admin review" status if it can be proven that it was stolen - instead of all the PM'ing and messaging we do now.

That is all.

Oh My God. love your awesome posts bytes, unfortunately. I'm not in the mood right now (watching The Sixth Sense. lol) and I have way too much things to do during the rest of this Sunday afternoon (almost 6 PM here) such as a Chemistry homework (aww, the year barely started and I have to write texts and all that stuff --')

BTW, loved the "President" mention bytes. Don't know if it was on purpose or just coincidence. ;)

Speaking in the B/P ranks I think they could add some new ranks, at least, I'd be more motivated, but as bytes said, the save whores would dominate NG. ( I have almost any blam, but at least my intentions are good.) :)

Also, about the stolen flashes, I saw the "Pinball Whizzle" one was erradicated (gotta love this word) and the "F5" one passed judgement. Fucking Hell, what's happening NG?

Started using the smiley with sunglasses up there, it looks more badass (just like bytes posts)

Hey! NGPD finds just as many stolen flashes as you guys, we're good at finding ze stolen flashes too D:

Though it was rather amusing that the guy thought he could get away with stealing those pinball games, as one of them even had a legal copyright on it because it was made to endorse a real thempark lol (yet something tells me we haven't seen the last of him : / ).

Maybe it would, but to be honest most of the active Supreme Commanders are still fairly big B/Pers anyway, whether many would admit it or not there is still the motivation to pass the person ahead of you, then the person after that, and so on. In any case, I don't see the save-whoring situation getting much worse than it already is at the present time regardless of what happens. It's a tough problem to solve. The obvious choice is to spread the good word regarding fairness of voting, but hell, that's a core principle of the EGB and spreading that message has been a responsibility of all its members for a long long time now, but strong as we are we are still a small group in the scheme of Newgrounds as a whole; certainly in terms of the active Portal users, a vast majority of whom don't use the forums anyway. That's what we tend to forget at times, even if there were 30 high voting power users voting fairly on a flash that's UJ, there could be 170 low VP users who vote for a point one way or another, most whom you'll find don't seem to know there's 4 buttons between 0 and 5, or worse, don't care.

I can't think of many alternatives to change the system to be honest; were the admins to tackle the problem head-on and make a drastic change (e.g. make each blam worth 2 points) then it might overcompensate and just lead to blamwhoring. Another possibility would be some sort of "punishment" system for unfair voters; what I mean is if you were to use what I'd call the extremes (0 and 5), were you to vote 5 on something which was blammed, you'd lose a point, likewise if you voted 0 on a passing submission. Now you could like a submission which others think is crap, well in that case there's nothing wrong with voting 2-4. The idea behind this would be that 0 would be solely reserved for cases where there is absolutely nothing redeemable about the flash and it wholly deserved to be blammed, and likewise 5 being reserved for something truly remarkable. Unfortunately I doubt this would work too well, peoples opinions are always going to differ, and even if you accept that the extremes are only to be used in rare cases, there'll always be one dissenting voice bitching that they found nothing redeemable about flash X which passed with a score of 2.04 or something.

Sadly I think it may be a case that we accept all systems have flaws, there will always be those who abuse the system, and that the devil we know is better than the one we don't. Whatever happens the EGB must above all else uphold the ideal of fair voting, and promote it at all times.

So anyway guys, any of you got anything planned for Paddy's Day? Sadly I've not got anything in mind, all the lads are dotted elsewhere around the country, and I've shitloads of renovations to undertake at home, so it may be a Paddy's Day devoid of the usual ceol agus craic for me. What if, instead of giving every fresh user the power to vote (like governments do?), a slowly growing group of licensed voters, pick new voters that have the power, along side other users, to actually save or blam submissions.

Active UJ voters number in the thousands, not millions, so if the system is kept dormant until ready, it could be revolutionized to be not unlike what the Art portal has in which trusted users grant their trust to others and hence making a relatively closed yet effective system of voting.

The current UJ method is early greek democracy, every one gets a vote, the stupid and the smart and the trolls alike. But if it is reduced to a congress or senate of sorts, then we could separate between the "public opinion" score which will range from 0 to 5 but won't matter on a submission's UJ status, and a much more specific "UJ votes" done by the trusties I've mentioned earlier, that would have power (Approx 1/200) once we make sure that "voting power" reflects public opinion and "UJ status" will have its uniqueness not by the voting power quantity but by having been selected to even have a vote in the matter.

Hmm, I like the way you think on that. Though, you think the admins would actually go through the trouble to put this sort of system in place? How would it be separated from the "public opinion" vote? How would new "trustees" be introduced into the equation? Would each of the 1/200 have the same voting power?

Anyway, sorry all for missing a few days. Business called; my roommate decided to make her own breakfast and nearly set the house on fire. I sure hope they will.

How would it be separated from the "public opinion" vote?

Two sets of scores on each submission, one is public opinion, which will basically be what we now consider the submissions score, which will double as a control measure for bringing in new trustees based on the reliability of their public opinion votes, compare to the selected UJ voters.

How would new "trustees" be introduced into the equation?

By comparing the stats of the relatively low number of active UJ voters we should see a pattern in a user's public opinion vote, and if the pattern matched what we know as a conscientious voter with a fair attitude, he would receive notification of his ability to partake.

Would each of the 1/200 have the same voting power?

Absolutely, since the trustees will only carry their voting power into their public opinion, their vote on UJ submissions will be nerfed to 1.00 to make sure no foul play occurs.

So yeah, cheers!

Don't Flag, this game is most defintely not stolen. If you look up in the right hand corner of the game you will see all the programming is done by "Rowkilla" who is assocaited with www.56Gaming.com and the art was done by Dan Martin who is associated with Wordpress.com. The author most likely collaborates with different websites/users to make his games (explaining the varying websites you see), point being don't flag.
