Should we post our achievements in the related threads (for example, a rank-up into Dogma's thread or into gfox's voting power list because the rank-up gives a nice vp boost) instead of posting the reached milestones here? I guess that if it's accepted then posting weak stats that nobody cares about (for example, 300 blams or 50 saves) won't be allowed.

This thread can still be used to discuss about the experience system, reviewing system, etc. without posting achievements, right?

It does...But still, if any of the admins actually had a problem with this, don't you think they'd have locked it themselves a long time ago? And also, I think it'd encourage a lot of people to make 'I leveled up!' threads, if they don't have somewhere to post about it.

Last time I checked, people were also posting their achievements there when these lists were active. Of course, the inactivity of these lists might change the situation and some achievements like the amount of posts can't be posted anywhere so RC's choice might not be the best.

Nobody seems to agree about where the achievements should be posted.

What are the choices?
1-Keeping two lounges, one for stats, one for dicussions but this MIGHT oblige the admins to lock the level-up lounge which will create another problem.
2-The current situation but do we really want the users to pollute the lists' threads with achievements? Of course, these threads already include this kind of posts but their amount are limited or the achievements are included into the discussions.
3-Completely enforce the rules. Some regulars will leave and many stat threads might appear in the general forum.

Looks like the perfect solution doesn't exist.

Well, I don't disagree with the idea, but you should take in consideration that, except the regulars, nobody care about how this thread is going. If you also consider the fact that we, the regular, are the one that help ng users on the board and the fact that without us, it would lose most of it efficiency, may be you could accept the possibility of making an exception, just as a reward for our "good services". After all, the real purpose of YOUR work is to ensure everyone's happy, which is why you make sure nobody's offensive, etc.

Not to be an ass or anything, this is just my honest opinion. This thread has been getting along just fine for as long as I can remember. I don't think that it should be changed on the whim of a single person. If you want a place to just chat, either re-open your other lounge and have it for discussion and leave this one for stats, or go to the LNL. If this thread is closed it will just encourage people to make their own threads for major accomplishments, thus giving you and the other moderators even more work. You shouldn't fuck with a good thing, it's as simple as that.

Isn't that a good thing? And FWIW, it's not as if anybody is actually *forced* to read this thread, either.

In short: don't fix it if there's no problem. Especially not if the fix is worse than what you have now.

Great point. The WHOLE PURPOSE of the LUL was to confine all stat discussion to ONE topic, so as to prevent the forum becoming flooded with such topics. And now you want to spread all that discussion throughout MULTIPLE threads, RC? That's crazy, and it goes against the no-stat-thread rule more than this thread ever did.

Now, we NEED both the old LUL and the new lounge. Below is a simple summary of what, IMO, the purpose of both lounges, and why they're justified.

Purpose of the LUL
- to confine all stat posts to ONE topic.
- to allow users to post their achievements.
- to allow users to discuss their stats with others.

Purpose of TOLTRTA
- to allow Wi/Ht users to chat in general, without having to sift through screenshots and congrats lists.

The LUL can't be a jack of all trades and a master of none. If you go back to the old LUL, you have just that, a discussion thread and an achievement thread, but IT DOESN'T WORK. When anyone tries to start a conversation, it gets washed away in a torrent of screenshots and congrats lists.

The latest solution is fucking crazy and will never work, as I explained above.

So the problem with the LUL is, it doesn't do conversation very well. The problem with the new lounge, in some people's eyes, is that it would reduce the LUL to a stat-only thread that would eventually get locked. BOLLOCKS. The LUL would remain as a stat thread, WITH stat discussion. The admins would have to keep it open, otherwise stat discussion would be all over the forum, instead of in one place.

Therefore, the only solution in my eyes is to have BOTH a lounge for stat posts/stat discussion, AND a lounge for general chat. Reinstate the old LUL minus the general chat and unlock the TOLTRTA thread. I realise my input is nowhere near as valued around here as that of RedCircle, Denvish, gfox, etc, but if you read all of this, I thank you. I'd appreciate any comments, or whatever.

Congrats to all since I'm too God damned lazy to read all those pages. I see some weird stuff is going on with renaming this thread and that One Lounge To Rull Them All, but meh. Too lazy to get into that too.

He was speaking from his own view there, just to make that clear. I never said this topic violates the rule, in fact I've defended it time and time again. HOWEVER, this topic would be much harder to defend if it was no longer our lounge (which RC was seeking to accomplish by setting up a new lounge). You and I shared that fear that this would become nothing BUT a stat-announcement topic, which would endager its future... didn't we?

Anyway, I guess we disagree on the SOLUTION to those fears/problems, if not the problems themselves.

For the past 2.5 years, this topic has been THE place to hang out and talk about ANYTHING... IOW, to LOUNGE on this forum. RC's recent creation of a NEW lounge put that purpose into doubt.

Of course the admins never locked the topic in the past... it was a valuable topic, it served as a lounge, other forums (such as flash and politics) have huge and useful lounges where the regulars hang out with no single topic to discuss... etc. etc.

Again! I wasn't trying to decide things for everyone, I was SUGGESTING this along with RC. I didn't know he was going to phrase things so badly or I would have made the post instead of him. Oy vey...

Don't accuse him of being power-hungry... he made his new lounge because he was disgusted with this topic (whereas I just tend to avoid it, he wanted to change it). We both had a bit of a disagreement IN his lounge... and we talked for a couple of hours on AIM last night and figured that if WE could come to an agreement, and seeing as how so very many people around here (yourself, joobie, lightning, etc. etc.) have become increasingly tired of stat-talk, it would be good to try and cut it out of the lounge if that would improve everyone's experience.

Of course, if the majority disagrees with RC and me, we'll both shut up. I had no intention of uni/bilaterally enforcing this upon everyone. I don't think RC did either, I think he just phrased things badly while asking for comments and questions and so forth.

My real point wasn't about totally enforcing the "no-stats" rule (and after reading my post, it really did seem like it, but that wasn't my intention at all), but it was to filter the stats-only posts in here. When people level up, rank-up, or hit some sweet numbers, I think it's really nice to allow people to post about it. I've just noticed that as time progressed, the definition of "sweet numbers" became more and more subjective, and a lot of people were posting about anything that even stood out (i.e. 10101 blams, 4004 saves, rank# 69, etc...). The more those posts started appearing, the less and less I (and I'm sure other people) became interested in even browsing the LUL.

What I feel should be acceptable for posting stats-wise is this:

If you reach a new level, then go ahead and post.
If you reach a new bp badge rank, then you may post.
If you reach a multiple of 1,000 in something (i.e. 3000 blams, 5,000 Exp (+5 depending on if you have a 5 at the end), then you may post.
If you reach a cool number like 1337, or 6666/2222/etc...that's also cool.

Things that are just starting to get spammy:

Multiples of less than 1,000 (i.e. 300 blams, 40 saves, 55 Exp)
X number of days before you level up, rank up, get a cool number. Those are too spammy.

Things that I'm undecided on:

Posting only a level up (i.e. "Just hit level 13" End of post.) Should that be acceptable?
Posting only a b/p rank-up (i.e. "Just got EGPFC" End of post.) Should that be acceptable?
Posting only a cool number (i.e. "Just got 2,000 blams" End of post.) Should that be acceptable?

I'm sorry to have worded it like it was the final decision, and I really don't know what I was thinking earlier, so please forgive me. Somehow in my mind, I thought that post would say the same thing as what I wrote above this paragraph. I was wrong.

I guess seeing less stats talk (especially the trivial numbers) is what's going to make it better in here. I'm fine with seeing people level up, get new b/p badges, or reaching impressive numbers, but when the post is only about stats, and trivial stats at that, maybe the line should be drawn. I hope that satisfies your boredom just a little =)

First off, I respect you for your post, and point, Mike. Even though this lounge is a place where the admins allowed people to brag about their accomplishments, I think it got a little out-of-control. The best course of action isn't making this a "no-stats" topic. Heh, would it be ok with you if we just had this topic as the lounge, but made sure it didn't get all spammed up with pointless posts? My thinking is that this lounge would be GREAT if it was based on chatting, and if someone got a new achievement, then it'd be fine if they posted about it, because as of right now, it's ONLY about stats...which kills me, because, I wanna talk to people in here. =)

I was thinking that if we were to somewhat limit stat discussion in the LUL (not end it, but filter it so that it's more on-topic and relevant), then when people wanted to talk about the different parts in their profile (XP, BP, VP, Rev, etc...) they had a place to talk about it. Modding those would also have to be done, but I think that there are people who love to talk about reviews in this forum, and them having a place to talk, and discuss reviews would be nice. If you don't want to bother, I'll understand, since it is your topic in the first place.

This will now be the Lounge in Where is/How to. This will not be a place where you can post your achievements, but rather, you may engage in casual conversation. The reason? It's against the rules. This topic (and forum) have been built on stats, and it might take some time for people to adjust, but all in all, it's for the best for the topic and forum as a whole.

There are plenty of topics out there (ramagi's EXP topic, gfoxcook's VP and Pentalist topics, Jonthomson's Reviews topic [which I will ask Jon to unlock in the next day or so], D0GMA's Blam&Save topic, gfoxcook's Blams and [unrelated] Saves topic) that will cater to your specific discussion regarding those relevant topics of interest.

So instead of one topic where people are free to post statistical achievements, you want people to use several topics (which only consisted because of the lists, all barring one or possibly two being dead anyway) to post their stats? On the principle that you want this single thread to remain stat-post free?

Heh, it's always been like that Eld. Back a few months ago, people used to post in the list topics regularily (when the lists were active). Since there isn't that much to talk about regarding specific points of people's stats after the discontinuation of the lists, that's probably why they aren't on the front page anymore.

The LUL can't be a jack of all trades and a master of none. If you go back to the old LUL, you have just that, a discussion thread and an achievement thread, but IT DOESN'T WORK. When anyone tries to start a conversation, it gets washed away in a torrent of screenshots and congrats lists.

If there were limils on what people can and can't post in the LUL, then it would work.

Therefore, the only solution in my eyes is to have BOTH a lounge for stat posts/stat discussion, AND a lounge for general chat. Reinstate the old LUL minus the general chat and unlock the TOLTRTA thread.

Unfortunately, keeping them both open will result in one of them being locked. It just can't happen. I'm sorry, but since the LUL is the more important lounge, we will just have to keep it less spammy, and more on topic (with the occasional rank-up/achievement).

I realise my input is nowhere near as valued around here as that of RedCircle, Denvish, gfox, etc, but if you read all of this, I thank you. I'd appreciate any comments, or whatever.

Well, Admins don't patrol the forums. Mods do. I would think that they'd respect our decision to leave it open if we felt that it's purpose now justifies it's lack of purpose when it was created.

I agree that things have gotten spammy at times.

I will visit once a day and i will be behind two pages, sometimes more, which is insane. I can't find the time to congrats everyone anymore. And i find that i see some people posting an accomplishment a week or more. Now, of course, some are ligit stat wores : P, but some are just giving miniscule accomplishments just to keep active in here. I haven't posted a real accomplishment in ages (and by real i mean stats, tomorrow is my NG B-Day and last week was my actual B-Day... those i would not consider real NG accomplishments). I think my last accomplishment was making top #1000 B/P and the lists were still up then. Really there should not be as many pages of accomplishments as there are per day. Thus, a lot are not ligit accomplishments that follow the great guidlines you set up above.

Basically i think your first post (which was the only i read thoroughly - the rest i skimmed) gave good guidlines and i happen to agree at most with it. I am glad that you have rectified that you were discussing and not demanding now, because at first i was baffled.

Some order around here should help put the place back in track. This forum is great, but it can be better and a little clean up it could use.

Anyway, i was just saying thanks for clearing things up.
