I think the NG Mag could use a little more attention... Maybe you could get points (which would add to your total including voting on flashes) for voting thumbs up-down-middle on alphas... I really like viewing the alphas and it would seem more meaningfull if you could get points somehow... But then again, maybe not... This is sort of a long shot...

Thanks nightmareLeecher for the sig.

I remember my good idea... If an animator submits a new flash and has an alpha for another submission, there should be a link for that authors alpha on the page of his new flash... Make sense?

Thanks nightmareLeecher for the sig.

I have an idea!

When you are on the forums, lets say the general forum. and you are looking for some topics to read...

instead of just reading the title which is often misleading, what if you could hover your mouse over the title, or the bar next to it, and when its over it.. the first few sentances of the post comes up so you can see what the topic is all about, before you commit to reading the topic :)

Every once in very great while comes a ridiculously funny thread. So funny in fact i must put it into my sig http://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/topic /1049194/1

Who thinks it would be cool if the levels went like this?

Level Days it takes to reach this level
0 0
1 1
2 3
3 10
4 15
5 21
6 28
7 36
8 45
9 55
10 66

So each time you level up it takes 1 more day to reach the next level than it did the previous level. Obviously we would have more than 30 levels. Now liljim before you get mad I know that for some reason the admins don't wanna make new levels despite many users wanting them but this was just an idea that I came up with.

Yeah, I was right. :) Not sure whether that would work with the NG forums, particularly with the number of people who respond to threads of a nature that they know nothing about.

Well, I was about to suggest viewable Audio Reviews, but that was on page two.

I was about to suggest Exp gained from audio, but that was in the first post.

I was about to suggest visable ban status, but I believe that was answered on page 2 or 3 (I found the question, but I was too lazy to find an answer)

I guess I'm drained of suggestions...

this what i get vbulletins is

vBulletin (sometimes abbreviated as vB or incorrectly as vBB) is a commercial Internet forum package produced by Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. It is often used to run larger boards and discussion communities. Written in PHP with a MySQL database backend, it is comparable to other forum software such as Invision Power Board and UBB.threads.

hope that helps even if you did not want to know

Yeah, I guess you neglected to understand the first post in the thread, as well. The part where it's implying that you don't post anything unless it hasn't already been suggested.

how about simply larger buttons on the top of the screen. It's really easy to accidentally hit "chat" or "help" if you're trying to click on "forums" when using a laptop touch pad. Not to mention that it took me nearly two years to realize there were forums on this site.

Yeah, we should have them take up the whole of the screen.

Not to mention that it took me nearly two years to realize there were forums on this site.

That's one of the reasons that those options are so small.

I'm on a laptop, too.

Ok, I catch your drift. But if not larger buttons, then maybe a way to access the BBS directly from the grounds gold menu.

Alright - I looked through the entire thread - sorry if it was there, but I didn't see it... :/

I was wondering if a commentary system could be put in place? Where you could comment on the author's comments so to speak - a mini-forum inside the flash. It could be moderated by the authors, and a group of people who could be considered flash "moderators" or something.

Or you could just use reviews for that.

Anyway, I have actually found a "bug" that shouldn't take more than 2 seconds to fix, or maybe not, what do I know.

If you enter the Online Store and scroll down to the "Copyright 1995-2005 Newgrounds Inc." thingy, it doesn't work like it does on other pages, the link doesn't lead to the frontpage, it leads to "http:///", also known as nowhere.
It also says 1996-2004, not 1995-2005.

I love pointing out small, meaningless things like this.

Here's a pic if my description wasn't good enough.

The reviews are meant for you to leave your critique of the animation, rather than as a place to start an open dialogue between you, the author, and other users. If you write a review which tells the author where they're going right or wrong, why you think they're going right or wrong and reasons why, there should be no reason for any of what's been suggested with regards to a threaded-type discussion on the matter.

When you leave a review, think of how movie critics or game site critics would write something up... they wouldn't leave open ends.

Nomader, just realised that you had left a review to one of the tunes I have. I left a reply.

DonDoli, I've passed that along, thanks.

Hey when you are reading through reviews and you mark something as abusive why does it jump to a random page of reviews? Shouldn't it just refresh the page that you are on? This problem makes it inconvienient for the users who are "patrolling" for abusive reviews.

It doesn't jump to a random page.

If you have the reviews listed by rating and you mark a review as helpful/not helpful/abusive, then after doing that it goes to the page containing the review you just marked as helpful/not helpful/abusive when listed by date instead of rating.

When that happens though if you just simply right click and select back then it will take you back to the page listed by rating that you were on when you marked the review as helpful/not helpful/abusive.

I was suggesting an entire new "commentary" system, which obviously looks horrible after reading the reply threads... :/

That's what I try to do - usually I rate things and explain why I did that.

That could be added to the idea I added earlier. Club leaders can moderate their club (kick members, "ban" members, and appoint trusties).

Well you know how everyone posts and then forgets to attach a picture, I was thinking that only within a couple minutes of that post you could still attach it.

It would be like editing your post except you can only add a picture and you can only do it right after your initial post.

I could see the first one, but the "ban" members etc. could be abused.

For example:

"HEY GUHYZ!!! This is the Newbie Sig makers aclsubs!"

Somebody responds:

"There's already a Beginner Sig Maker Club"

Then the author responds:

"BANNEDf!"

Then a mod responds:

"Your banned for banning somebody inappropiatly... etc."

It would be total chaos.

Maybe we can get some sort of journal entry system up, that way, all the posts on the BBS about "OMFG I JUST SHOT A SQUIRREL" and "OMG THIS GURL LIKES WUT I DO?!?!?" would likely disappear.

It would be interesting to see journals, people could check popular authors entries to see what's up, how they are, updates on movies and such.

Wow, I might have made a change to the site, omfg :P

Anyway, now that I've pointed out that "mistake", you owe me a favor, that is to hear me out.

When you enter a forum, you scroll your way down and look for interesting topics and such. Once you hit the bottom, you might decide to enter one of the other forums. But when you're at the bottom, the only drop-down menu there is the "show topics from..", and not the one that takes you to another forum.

So I was thinking that there is alot of free space there, so why not?
Here's how I thought I might look. And as you can see, alot of free space for a boarder or what not.

In the BBS "author" coulum it shows your alias, post count, level, exp. points, and sign-up date. So why not have it show your batting average too?

Well lets see... Not everyone has a B/A, and why would people care about your B/A in the forums?

How about a more discriptive rating system, e.g. Some flashs I've watched were rated as all audences, but I watched them and found more than my fair share of audible excplicit lanquage(e.x. insult genrator 2 and 1) My dad walked in right when the f-word was said!

Its been dicussed already about exp through posts and you have to agree it will just be abused. The system already in place for gaining expierence is just fine.

Although I would like in some way, to get a reward for being active in the audio portal
(Example: allow your audio reviews count as normal reviews in your profile)

Also I completly agree that having a small flag in your profile showing what club you belong to (if any) is a good idea.

Most of the entries that you find like that are really old and were uploaded before the ratings system was even around. As such, the script that I wrote to do a sweep of the site and apply ratings according to other categories which have since been removed couldn't pick up on EVERYTHING.

If you see movies like that that are on the site, pay close attention to when they were originally submitted. If they're old entries (or even if they're entries which have been submitted recently with inappropriate ratings), then send an e-mail with the subject "Newgrounds Help" to Wade - and give a link to the submission that has explicit content, together with what you found was wrong with the rating and what was in the movie. For example, in this case, you could have written something like, "The rating was 'suitable for all audiences', but it has explicit audible language in it." He will take care of the rest.

I've cleaned up the submissions you were talking about, but you could have figured out that they'd have bad audible language in them from the instructions given in the textual stuff. For those who're interested, here are those entries:

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/2603

http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/3018

Those might actually belong in the soundboards collection (or at least the second one). Meh.

I know that having an icon on a user's submissions (along with the Daily/Weekly awards and #of views) for Front Page Feature has been discussed before, but I don't know if anyone has suggested that MONTHLY awards be added. It's just something I was thinking about earlier - seeing as it's a reasonably prestigious achievement, it would be nice if the winners had something to show for it on their profiles (a link)/submissions (icon).
