That would actually be pretty cool... If they modified it a little bit... I think they should do that... I second that idea...

Yeah, I agree. The NG mag is just boring, I barely visit it anymore.

I had an idea about the controversal "currency" idea, that TomFulp showed us earlier in the thread.

I was thinking of how to solve the problem - and here it is -

For every b/p, a person would get one coin.

For every flash submission, if it gets blammed, the user loses 2 coins - if it's protected, the user would recieve 2 coins - then, depending on the score, users would recieve coins weekly (i.e. score of 4 would give user 5 coins per week, but if the submission then droped to .5 or something, it would only be 0-1 coins per week)

For every Audio submission, the coins would be based on amount of downloads (i.e. Platinum... etc.) - but unlike the Flash forum, they'd recieve coins every two weeks. If an audio submission has 50 downloads, it'd recieve one coin. 100 downloads, it'd recieve two coins. 200 downloads, it'd recieve four coins... etc.

Every deposit gives you 5 coins

Posts would give nothing XD

Coins could be used to purchace more secrets - perhaps enough would give you access to secret parts of NG

It was just a brainstorming idea, and decided to post it XD

Again, you're brainstorming over an idea that you really don't know too much about.... We already anticipated all of that stuff. :)

lol - oh well - that five minutes worth of hard typing and thinking was put to waste...

But you might want to heed the suggestion about the NG Mag which was above my lengthy brainstorm

How about putting how much remaining characters you have when you're writing stuff in your sig, like the one that's below the post box.

I was thinking, could there be a "Banned" aura at all to show someone has been banned from the BBS, indefinate or temporary? It would add to the punishment of being banned.

This suggestion has been put in the first 10 pages of this thread, I think. JonThompson replied with "What, we don't want to give them attention!" or something.

And for the "formerly know as" idea, that looks nice. Unless I want to change it and fool people (like I did with OsAmARaMa) :P

Like Zendra already said, bans have nothing do to with your level (the grey aura looks nice though). However, I think there should be a way to check if a user is banned or not. Something like an extra line beneath the number of posts saying: Banned!

At 10/6/05 10:01 AM, Kam-Ron wrote: A link right below our name on the BBS that shows what are alias formerly was on newgrounds, or a link to it.

It could take away some confusion indeed, but people don't change their aliases that often I think, and you'll find out who the user was after a while, so it would be a bit pointless in my opinion. I would also prefer the 'formerly known as' line behind the users alias in his profile and not beneath the 'view profile' button on the BBS.

I don't like the formally known as idea, if the name changer really has half a mind about his old name they can put it in their profile or signature.

Response to Ideas for Newgrounds' Evolution Mk2 2005-10-06 18:10:34

How about a world map, like there is on retrogade, showing where each Newgrounds members location is if they decide to show their location.

It would allow us to see if their are any other Newgrounds members within our area, which in my opinion would be a really nice feature to have.

How about being able to use the <font> tag to include more variety in posts.

I'm tired of doing this to get a new font color.

And to prevent abuse, you can put this between posts.
<!--
</font>
-->

And also be able to use the <img> tag so we dont have to upload every image we want. Only one can be used to prevent picture spamming.

Response to Ideas for Newgrounds' Evolution Mk2 2005-10-08 15:08:32

I really like the formally known as idea... I've changed my name a lot and well whenever i put it in my sig or profile it takes up a lot of space... It would also cause less confusion in the clubs (people always ask who i am and i have to tell them the list of names i've had)... The only problem i may see with this idea is people would change their names all the time, but i dont know if that would happen...

I'm sure its been posted before in this thread considering it is a majorly wanted item. But nonetheless just in case it hasn't been mentioned, I was wondering, why doesn't NG have a sports forum? Grant it, there are clubs and crews for different sports but when you want to make a cross-sport referance, where do you post it? There many aspects of sports that to strictly pertain to one sport or one league. So, in summary, I am asking for NG to have a sports forum.

You could create an official Sports Crew...

A Sports Forum is pointless, theres a club or crew for just about every sport in the C&C... If you want to talk about sports join those clubs...

Another idea. When I was on Wikipedia, I saw there List blocked users page and was wondering:
Why don't we have a list with all the people that are currently banned? A few examples would be:
10/09/05:-poxpower-banned shoot2thrill for 6 days(ends10/15/05)Reason:Bumping a three year old topic about the New York Yankees
10/09/05:WadeFulp banned mylover666 for 30 days (ends 11/09/05)Reason: You don't create six insult topics about AH, especially because there are a lot of fans here.
10/10/05:bigbadron banned bigbadronisgay for 20 days(ends 10/30/05)Reason:I'll make sure Tom deletes your account, An email has already been sent to him.

There are already 3 threads that I know of in General about this. Some user creates a map on some website, and asks you to sign it.

I have an idea that could change the portal as we know it, for the better.

XML support.

The idea is simple, add some more upload boxes to the flash upload box, they will allow for XML files to be uploaded on NG in the same directory as the SWF file.

The great thing is it will change the way people can develop their flash, they'll be able to do even more and of course make WORKING highscore tables.

There would be problems, but they could be fixed, for example:

1. XML conflicts: Should there be a conflict in file names, it would deny the upload and ask you to recode it so it uses another filename instead.

2. People hacking hiscores: People should have access to their own XML files and be able to edit them in a textbox, making changes as necessary.

3. Needing so many XML files: The shouldn't be a limit on the number of XML files, just a limit of size of SWF and XML together.

Allowing XML files could allow Flash authors to drastically change and improve the way their flash works, without them having to host elsewhere and causing problems like a highscore table not working.

Actually, I believe you could ask a mod about that - I'm pretty sure there is a big ol' list of banned people, just we can't see it :/

Besides, then people would be thrown to the wolves of ridicule!

Here are some ideas I think that might improve NG:

BBS:
-> Show the actual time of the BBS ontop of the viewed page and when replying.

PORTAL/FLASH-VIEWING:
-> Portal submissions that are scoring over 4.00 get a different colour, illustrating how elite it is.
-> A random-flash function that can bring up a movie based on the users stipulated range of score. eg. 1.00-2.00, 2.00-3.00, 4.00+.

Funny how I had some wicked ideas but I can't remember them. I'll post them when I'm able to remember.

How about an extra feature for the mods/admins that allows them to issue warnings to BBS users?

Basically if someone was to break a BBS Rule, but it wasn't bad enough to deserve a ban, then a mod/admin could issue a warning to that user. Then when that user goes to make their next post, before getting to the Post a message! screen a screen could come up informing them that they'd just broken a rule and that they'd been issued a warning and if they break the rule again they'll be banned. They'd also be a continue button on the screen so that after reading the warning the user can go straight to posting a message.

I feel it would help the BBS become a better place as I constantly see people pointlessly making posts in fairly old topics that have already been cleared up in the Where is/How To? Forum. And some people make many of these posts in a row, adding this feature would hopefully prevent this from happening as the user wouldn't want to get a ban.

It would also work the other way if the mod/admin chose to, as instead of giving someone a one-day ban for a small thing they could choose whether or not to issue a warning or give the user the one-day ban anyway.

You could have usernames have 6 bit per charecter instead of 8. This can be the format:

0-25 - capital letters
26-52 - lowercase letters
53 - dashes
54 - _ <-- that
You could add commands for 55-62.
63 - end of username

You could do the same for posts and topic titles, along with any other area of text. You might need 128 charecters at most.

Don't use 32-bit integers. You could have each topic's format be this:

A bit signifing weather to use 32 or 8 bits for the post count(called blng).
5 bits - length of topic title(ranges from 3-35).
IF blng=1 then 32 bits of the post count, otherwise 8 bits.
A 19 bit integer that is read from the first post of the topic(the topic starter's id).
Read the date and time posted and any other information too.
Get the last post.
An array of posts.

You get the idea..

Also, you could code a protocol for NG to save bandwidth or you could write your own database server optimised for NG.
