Hmmm, yeah, well I'll definitely have to give the demo a try. I'm away from home right now, so like I said, I'll pick it up when I return for sure. But thanks for the warning that it may be confusing and different at first. I will give it some time... and thought before I purchase it, obviously.

Thanks :)

Found several more programs:
Kristal Audio Engine, was posted before, now they're working on vs2 that will be not free a nymore, so get it while is free.

Music Studio Producer Independence - 39$
... wow, that's a weird name... still, a good program.
Basic specifications:
MIDI sequencer

Track : 256 multi track + tempo, meter and key track(total 259 tracks)
MIDI device : 64 MIDI input, 64 MIDI output
Note : Unlimited
Max measure : 9999
Meter : 1/1~99/32
Resolution : 960
Tempo : 5~500
Data format : MSF(Music Studio File) and SMF format 0,1
Audio
Track : 256 momo tracks
Bus : 8 stereo or surround busses
Effect : 44 insertion and 54 stereo/surround effects
You can use 5 insertion effects per track
Audio effect plug-in, VST, VSTi(*1)
Output : 16ch(max)
Input : 64ch(max)
Frequency : 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, 96kHz, 176.4kHz, 192kHz
Sample bits : 16bit, 24bit (32 or 64bit floating processing)
Data format : MSF(Music Studio File), WAF(Wave Audio File) and wave file
Driver : supports MME and ASIO(*2)
Music Studio Independence is shareware. Until regisration, the length of the
song will be limited up to one minute.

My favorite latest find,
Mu.Lab.
This comes in two versions, FREE and commercial (49 Euro).
MU.LAB Free (which is free to everyone!) has a 6 track limit, can only mixdown in 16 Bit and only supports 1 mono out for ReWired devices. But be sure: a creative soul can do A LOT with that!
Works under Windows, OsX and Linux (Linux not official but
here's how to do it )

TrakAx a... free Nuendo combined with Adobe Premiere... sort of...
Works with audio and video. FREE !!!
Still, no MIDI :(

And last find for today, a funny cute audio mixing program.
Gungirl
Gungirl Sequencer is an easy to use Audiosequencer. It includes a simple Filemanager and uses Drag & Drop to arrange Audiosamples.

Hey... Ummm I've been a musician since 2 years ago, however, me and my band hadn't got the opportunity to make a song, now that we have Soundbooth, after months of saving money, we wan't to know: which software is the besto to make some Radiohead-ish loops?
I was recommended Reason, but I don't know if FL Studio will be better or worse, or if there is any other software that will have the sounds I need

Well personally, I use FL Studio myself.... I think it gets the job done. But if Pro Tools is within your price range, I would go for it.

I'm confused by your reasoning. So MixCraft is a bad thing? Because I've only heard negative things about garage band.

Using only pre-made loops from Mixcraft, Magix Music Maker and Garage Band gets you banned.
Putting together a bunch of loops is NOT:
- work
- composing music
- creative
- fair to the other people who try to learn to play an instrument
- fair to the other people who try to learn music theory and compose
- fair to the other people who try to learn mixing and mastering techniques

Putting pre-made loops together is like playing with Duplo, require even less IQ.
Still, Garage Band have MIDI implementation and audio recording/editing, so you can make also real music.

Is there any type of program i can use to record vocals?

Response to Audio Software: Studios & Editors 2009-04-25 17:27:40

JEEZ! Why do they have to make these programs so expensive!

I AM TICKED!

By the way, ParagonX9 uses Reason 3

I wish I could afford it, well I can but I don't want to spend that much.

If you would read this thread you would find a lot of free software choices, some better than some commercial.

By the way, ParagonX9 uses Reason 3

I guess already 4 :)

Well, any wav. editing/recording program would do it, from Audacity to Krystal or Wavosaur just to name a few of the free choices.

Read man, read the thread, that's why it's written.
If we take our time to write it, it's for your own good to read it.
Audacity is NOT a sequencer, it's a wav recording/editing tool.
For making tecno you would need a sequencer (a program that allows you to write notes and play those notes in a generator, a synthesizer). I guess FL demo, Mu.Lab, Reaper or even the old Rebyrth would do the job.
Search for them in this very thread.
... .... ... and READ man, READ !!!

I personally use:
- Reason (bundle with my soundcard)
- FL demo, just to put some VST effects on what I record, very easy and very fast.
- Mu.Lab
- sometimes I fool around with Wavosaur, TrakAx Pc, M-Drummer (stand alone version)

You'll need a tracker for that, and most trackers are free. Have a look into MilkyTracker - it's cross platform and totally free.

Thing is, in Ejay you don't make music. You drag around a bunch of loops. On top of that, 'songs' 'made' with Ejay won't even be approved on NG, you get banned from submitting audio when you do that.

A tracker is a program that lets you create music with samples. You can check out Milky Tracker.
it is a free music coded tracker program that lets you create chip music as i call it. Chip music is built up by music codes rather than straight audio. if you google milky tracker or anything related to music trackers you will find a lot of good information on them. Sometimes i find that it is tough to record songs with a tracker program simply because it uses keyboard or midi codes rather than using straight audio but it is fun to play with. I have a lot of mod chips on my computer.
Google .mod and see what you can find or else go on milky tracker's web site. it has tutorials on how to play mod's and create them.
Also samples such as drum patterns or synth sounds help with this program because you can control the sounds via midi keyboards.
have fun.

It still makes me laugh that the renoise entry on the OP STILL hasn't been updated. Renoise is NOT $499.

With current exchange rates it is approximately $69.50 in USD.

Response to Audio Software: Studios & Editors 2009-06-05 03:58:26

Who cares about Renoise when people just now discover E-Jay programs ?

I'm thinking about buying an M-Audio Interface and I noticed that it comes bundled with "Ableton Lite Live 5" Obviously is dated since Abelton's on version 8 now, I was wondering if this is equivalent to the Live LE they're selling now. Most importantly, I was wondering if I can DJ with this version like I could with Ableton Live 8. I'm have a Mac so Ableton is my best option, but it's really expensive. If I could with this Ableton Lite Live 5, that would be a great deal getting this interface!
