Actually good (or at least decent) licensed games.

Licensed games have a bad rap. So lets talk about good (or at least decent) licensed works. Firstly, I have very fond memories of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project on NES. Me and my friend made it one time 3/4ths of the way to the end of the game, I really should finish it for real sometime.

For non animated works, I really liked sam & max: hit the road for DOS/Windows on the SCUMM engine. Despite having to tone down the jokes and dialogue, it still gets pretty witty at times.

Note, this licensed work doesn't need to be animated, it can be for a live action show or comic book, just has to be a licensed game for a non game work.

Star Wars has always had great games, but a favorite of mine is the Revenge of the Sith tie-in game.

Spongebob Battle for Bikini Bottom is one of my most all time favorite video games, I used to watch the demo mode all the time as a kid:

Same engine, same devs, Spongebob the Movie Game is like the harder sequel:

I hope that gets re-released soon like the other Star Wars games.

Honestly the Kung Fu Panda-games are suprisingly decent (Especially the original Xbox 360-tie in game). I haven't played them in a while but they hold up well enough even today

AVP Arcade (Capcom) does more justice for both the franchises than any of the shit crossover films ever did.

LJN is known for bad Nintendo games, but there are still exceptions to rules.

For the NES:

-Jaws

-The Punisher

-T&C Surf Designs: Thrilla's Surfari (also known as: "Wood & Water Rage" as the subtitle. I think it's a regional difference.)

For the SNES:

-Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage

-True Lies

-WWE Raw

-Terminator 2: The Arcade Game

-Alien 3

Friendly reminder that LJN is a videogame publisher and AVGN is a character. Don't get me wrong, after seeing AVGN's review and reaction to Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage, that encouraged me to search on YouTube: "Decent LJN Games" There have been a handful of videos from retro-gaming YouTubers explaining why those games are fun and worth going back to, even if they're not true to the source material (or by the book).

The Gameboy Advance version of The Two Towers is a great Diablo clone.

It's a lost vikings clone, but it's a pretty nice one. Had it not come out right around the same time as the lost vikings ported to GBA, it would have been more fondly remembered.

To me the Nickelodeon All Star Brawl series is a good licensed game series. They are different from Smash Bros to feel like a nice change from time to time. Only problem is that they (like many other licensed games) are too expensive.

I loved this one, it was a cool beat 'em up, a nice retelling of the story from a different perspective and with very cool missions (And a cool little easter egg to GTA when you got to Far Far Away) plus a few extra levels of places you didn't see in the movie or that expanded on it, (I remember there was a level on a cave with merfolks, I liked that part a lot) It did have a few stinky segments, specially some mini games, but despite that, it was a genuine fun time for me as a kid.

There's a good number of them. In the 90's, Konami and Capcom were kings of this. But beyond them they were some others.

Sunsoft's Batman Return of the Joker on the NES is my favorite Batman game ever. There's Bucky O'Hare which was probably the best thing that IP received. Chip n Dale got an excellent NES platformer as did Darkwing Duck and DuckTales. Someone mentioned Star Wars which is loaded with great games, Rogue Leader being my favorite.

Treasure known for Sin & Punishment, Radiant SilverGun, GunStar Heroes, and Gradius V made a very low budget but oddly satisfying (HARD) beat em up for Tiny Toons on GBA called Buster's Bad Dream. I believe their Bleach games are also pretty decent which gets into anime tie ins. Unfortunate most are arena fighters but at least many of them are a lot of fun.

Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm has a few excellent entries that are still very popular and Dragonball has no shortage of quality games from Advanced Adventure to Origins to Tenkaichi 3 and Buu's Fury among many of it's other fighters. FighterZ is probably the most noteworthy one for people. Really this could go on for pages.

It's amazing how many things in this game can take repeated beatings from The Hulk. You feel weaker by the end and not stronger! Still love it and give it a thumbs up.

I never got to play the second one, but Transformers: War For Cybertron is a very good third person shooter.

Speed Racer for the DS had no right going as hard as it did. It legit had Car-Fu quicktime events where you could deck another racer. It's great and almost feels like F-Zero lite

(i assume the wii version would be better but i've never played the wii version lmao. The DS version still goes unnessicarly hard imo)

Ducktales on the NES was so good that it got a remastered version from Wayforward games. I kinda wish we got one with Darkwing Duck as well(it played like Megaman given who made it and which engine it used).
