Want to win $100 from your music? Like remix stems? You're in the right place.

Welcome to the Re-Remix Me Competition!

I had the idea while making this track, which is itself a remix of one of my previous works.

Original

I think it sounds pretty awesome, but I'd bet $225 five of you reading this thread can do better!

Summary:

The competition will consist of 3 rounds, an audition, a shootout in which you remix your competitors, and the coup de grâce, remixing my track – plus the prize money. It will span May 1st through July 6th.

Prizes:

  • 1st Place - $100
  • 2nd Place $50
  • 3rd-5th Places - $25

Thanks to @TomFulp, the TOP 5 will receive those coveted FRONTPAGES!

Second round participants will receive stems for "YOU METAL RMX", whether you make it to the finals or not! This includes license to use them commercially, as described in the readme. If you run into problems with your DSPs regarding your remixes, just hit me up.

Best part? You can lock in your audition today!

HOW TO ENTER

Post to this thread with:

  • a small blurb about your artist/track's history
  • your very best track on Newgrounds, ever!

Stage 1: Auditions

Remixes are encouraged but not necessary. Simply select a complete piece of yours which you feel is representative of your capabilities as a music producer and post to the thread!

No rules besides that your audition must follow NG Audio Guidelines.

https://www.newgrounds.com/wiki/help-information/terms-of-use/audio-guidelines

Round 1 begins immediately after this post. Scores and winners will be announced May 16th.

Scoring: ten-point scale breakdown of Production, Mixing, Mastering, and Style.

Stage 2: Onto the real competition!

Half of participants will survive to Round 2, which will consist of remixes and covers of your competitors!

On May 20th, you will be randomly assigned an entrant's track to remix. You will have until June 10th to remix their entry from the previous round.

If there is an odd number of competitors, you will be assigned the first runner-up from the previous round!

I will take one week to judge everyone's entries. During judging, everyone will be given a copy of "YOU" stems via DM.

Half of entrants will pass this stage. The top 3 will receive frontpages.

Stage 3: Let the best remix win!

The final round will begin June 15th and last until July 6th.

There are no rules for just how hard you can go, only that your entry should use recognizable melodies or stems from the pack. No genre restrictions apply.

You may choose to COVER the vocals or instruments in a different style, so long as the above is true.

Genre-bending is encouraged. That’s how this track was born!

I will take a week to work out the winners, and if necessary call in another judge to impartially break ties.

----------------------------------------

Some extra stuff about rules and payments

Obviously, no AI generated content or violating NG rules as specified above. Such entries will be disqualified and banned.

Replies without a small blurb, either about your artist history or track history will be ignored (with notice). Tell us your story!

Must be a member of Newgrounds for at least 30 days by the closing of Round 2 to participate. That's June 10th, 2025. This is to discourage random people from Gumroad from spamming the thread to get free stems.

Must have a way for me to pay you to receive prize money! Otherwise we'll have to figure something out, like supporter status! I can process payouts with Paypal, Venmo, Cashapp, Square, and some other online merchants.

You may choose to defer your prize money to another competitor of your choice.

Audience donations to the prize pool are accepted. Please send any donations to my NG inbox. I will announce them here once we're sure they're a definite!

Applications for tie-breaker judge to be discussed via PM!

That’s it. Now, who wants to win some cash?

Helloooooo, I am KI1! (not so fun fact: the name 'KI1' is just how I abbreviate 'Kick 1' on my channel rack in FL)

I have been making music in FL Studio as a hobby since I was 15, before taking a big hiatus. I've been trying to make music a bigger focus of mine, especially on NG since 2021.

As always, I consider my most recent to be my 'best.' (I'm also in the midst of finishing another remix contest entry, but can't post that one just yet!)

it do be like that sometimes

The Problem is I need inspiration for me to do a good remix.

It would be awesome if my track "Highs before High" gets a remix. My Entry

Hey guys! Sorry for the late reply. Right after I made this thread I fell and broke my toe trying not to step on my girlfriend's dog LOL. Then I hobbled out to get my tires replaced and buy a tie rod. So it's been an eventful day!

I forgot to mention, I'll OFFICIALLY start judging entries May 1st.

Right now I'm getting the spreadsheets ready -- which I realized I suck at! Ahahah.

Tomorrow, I have a talk with @Aalasteir as well, so I'll be out for a few hours, but I wanted to ask, how exciting does WET stems sound?

I'm thinking of doing those, then releasing to Gumroad AFTER the competition concludes, so that until then, this will be the only way to get them!

Also, if we have less than 15 competitors, EVERYONE will pass auditions. Want to have as many people in the finals as possible!

And of course, I will try to give everyone an in depth review!

Little bit of trivia here for those watching in the wings, @KI1 and I have known each other almost as long as we have been in music. I still have some of your old mp3s on a player somewhere. Crazy that we're both still here!

I'm the same. Every time I come out with a new piece, I feel like it puts the last to shame! Best of luck with your other piece!

So relatable! The best way to motivate myself seems to be "take samples from this completely unrelated genre" and smash this piece to bits with them xD

If you're worried about the quality of your remix, you can literally just take bits and pieces of the track and use it like an instrument to make an original!

More of a fusion of two songs cut up together a-la-Daft Punk, rather than a direct remix of a single song.

My remix tend to be very original because i just take the main Idea (motif) of the song and flip it in unique ways.

The results are a little more unconnected as usual.

That actually sounds exciting. My favorite remixes are reharmonizations and remixes in different styles. Did you have any inspirations for doing your own remixes this way, or did it just come naturally?

I've been drawn to intense music my entire life. It started off when I was around 5 listening to deftones, Iron maiden, and system of a down. As I grew older, I shifted to electronic music after playing GD for an unhealthy amount of time, and found dubstep! I've fell in love with it and can't get enough of it ever since :)

Ahh, those were the days! I've never played GD longer than a few minutes at a time -- too bad at it, but I've been exposed to a lot of great music from the game in my time moderating. I never was very good at dubstep, but the heavier music has always drawn me in. The energy and emotion defies description. It feels so alive!

I'd love to join this, even thought remixing that rack is gonna be pretty hard with my style lol

ANYWAYS

The name's 3manon, been on newgrounds since late '21, I make drum and bass for fun, and cinematic for long(term, but I can't add that otherwise it wouldn't rhyme lol)

XD

I sympathize with remixing being hard. It took me a long time to get to where I am today -- ironically a lot of my progress coming from remixing, reharmonizing, and covering stuff. For me, I have a hard time remixing out of certain genres, those being hip-hop, metal, and dnb. Those are what I'm most familiar with, and in descending order what I'm good at, lmao.

Added to the list!

Accepted! Also, I'll have to take notes on how to introduce myself in the future. Maybe it's the 'tism but I always feel like a borg when someone asks me to describe myself or my music. I'm like, "does not compute." But that sounded interesting!

Why, hello there. My name is ChordProduction. Previously, I had an account in there named "NewGameExplorers". (evidence: last post on this previous account) I had a pretty long way of creating music. Mostly, I was using FL Studio 21. As time was passing, I was improving at making music, as I began to understand some features of the music program and how to make music more interesting, that just being repetitive. I also grew a liking in experimenting with the different styles, though mostly I prefer to do a video-game type of music. Now I can call myself a professional amateur. On my new account, I haven't uploaded much of music yet. Going to change it.

As about my best music ever. In my opinion, it's the one called "Cinematic Jumble". This music was made for the other competition back then ("NGUAC 2024 Knockout Round"). Though I've made some decent music after this one, I think about this one as my best.

Well... I think it's two things. About one of them, I'm sure, about the other, kinda sure. First of the reasons is that I was enrolled in a music school in my childhood. (Mostly to play musical instruments.) Because of this, I slowly became interested and attached to music. About the second reason, I'm not entirely sure, but I think that's the case. I was a bit more attached to the music through the media (mostly from games). One of them, what influenced and formed my taste in music, is Geometry Dash (That game is also the reason how I got to know Newgrounds). And other games, that influensed my music taste the most after this, are 8-bit and pixel games (like Mario, Sonic, Kirby, Undertale, etc.) Eventually, I've decided and try to make my own music (Though also one of the another reasons back then was that I wanted for my music to get in Geometry Dash, haha).

Adding to the playlist and spreadsheet!

Oh, alrighty. Thanks for that.

For now, I'm mulling over assignments for remixes. Since there are exactly 12 participants, that should go smoothly. Should we get any stragglers, I'll get creative.

Currently, everyone is advancing to the next round and will receive a copy of stems June 11th. Awesome.

Meantime, some basics of what to expect in Round 2

Tuesday May 20th, I will assign everyone a competitor's audition to cover/remix. Pairs will be matched to approximate skill level and/or compositional type for fairness.

The resulting tracks will be judged according to Production, Mix, Mastering, and Style, with submissions spanning May 20 to June 10th 00:00.

I will take one week to judge and if necessary call in tiebreakers.

Half of competitors will survive this round, to be announced no later than June 15th. Winners will go on to compete for $225 in total prize money and frontpages!

Victory conditions: HIGH SCORE vs. Knockout

I will flip a coin three times ahead of judging to decide how victories are to be determined. Heads: 1v1 knockout pairs. Tails: highest overall scores. The coin flip will be recorded.

VOTE to replace one coin toss with your preference (by June 10)

To make things interesting, would you rather 1v1 your competition, or compete for the highest score? The result of this vote will replace one coin flip, if a majority is reached.

Heart react for high score.

Angry react for 1v1!

Please vote! If less than 8 competitors vote, the vote will not be counted.

I just realized how f'ed up it would be if 17 people submitted and 16 people would go through to the first round loll
