OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH if anything is going to motivate me to actually do some blender work, its now.
I have been waiting for this event for Years and now I has finally happened.
As always, if anybody has any need for voices, I'm willing to dust off my tongue and try some goofy 90's anime dub goofballery~
If anyone is orginizing a team I would love to join! I can do 3D modeling, character design and game design all pretty confidently. My speciality is mechanical stuff so if your game has that please DM me!
Hi Tom! Thanks for setting up Low Poly Day. Just to double-check — we should publish our work exactly on June 6th, right? I want to make sure I’m doing everything right!

Folks, please avoid using generative ai to create submissions. It's so easy to spot ai slop
That said, learning 3D is a really fun way to create art and If you've never worked with 3D before, here’s a list of tools to help you get started. I’ve organized them from beginner friendly to more professional options. This list mainly features free tools that you can start using with just a few hours of exploration and practice.
If you're still finding things difficult, there's also a version of Minecraft Java Edition that was available for free at one point - though it might take some digging to find. Creating art in Minecraft technically counts as low-poly modeling, since everything is built from cube-based forms.
Tinkercad (link) (browser) Basic 3d modeling tool and a great place to start if you have never worked in 3d before.
Blockbench (link) - (PC/Mac/Browser) used for making minecraft style models. It is opensource, and has a texturing, and animation tool built into the application. It's also very easy to export assets to game engines
MagicaVoxel (link) - (PC) another super easy tool if you just like building out 3d art as 3d pixels
There's a paid version of a voxel editor called Quibicle Voxel Editor (link) - (PC/Mac) too . However they have not done any updates since 2016, I believe.
SketchUp Free 2017 (link) - (PC) this is the last free version of SketchUp and is also very easy to learn
Crocotile3D (link) - one excellent software for making tile-based low poly art
Blender (link) - (PC/Mac) insanely powerful 3d tool and does everything 3d - for more professional use
ProBuilder (Unity) (link) - (PC/Mac) this is a a Unity feature where you can build low poly, blocky objects right in Unity

Blender could as well be the first and last thing on this list. To be fair I haven't heard of most of these, but free and open source with a zillion tutorials out there is hard to beat. You can go from know-nothing to putting a low-poly scene together after one ten-minute intro vid.

Yup, publish on June 6th to be a part of the event!
what if i made a y2k song before the y2k category dropped and i put "you guys are behind 🥀💔"
This is soo cool! finally i can participate on something in here! i need ideas now, just awesome!
Imma make a pilot for the first low poly day
Think I'll try and find time to cook up a music video for a song of mine! This sounds right up my alley lol
"One is the number of solitude, two is the number of fraternity, three is the number of discord, four is the number of war."
Here, I made this on ibisPaint, sorry if it doesn’t look low poly.. :(
I've been working on a little movie for this and I was wondering how many polygons break the limit from Low Poly to High Poly, I've been going on PS2 metrics for a good bit but I was wondering how it'll be judged

There's no strict requirement there, will mostly go by how things feel. If it feels PS2, that should be fine.

Alright, thanks!
I just wanted to be certain with this event, but are we allowed to submit before June?

For event days like this we ask that people publish on the day of the event.

Gotcha. Thank you very much!
i guess its time for me to shoot my shot at 3d too, i haven't done much modelling, but i love retro artstyles too much to pass this up
I've decided to use this Low-Poly Day as an excuse to make something cool. A while back, some models from the infamous animated film Foodfight! were found and posted online, including these two models called Sugi.lwo and Anime_Zombie.lwo, which never appeared in the movie and look so stylistically different from it. I think they'd look perfect for a low-poly animation where Sugi is some superhero beating up a horde of anime zombies. I'm cleaning up and rigging the models right now, but I'm still stuck on how to structure my animation. I was thinking of doing a straighforward short music video where Sugi's fighting is synced to a Y2K techno beat, but I'd like to know if anyone here has other cool ideas I can go with. Also if you were going to make music for Low-Poly Day and would prefer to have visuals animated over it, let me know and you can send me a short demo if you'd like.
Do you think an updated demo for an existing project would be chill to submit for competition or is that not "world premiere" type stuff
