Unfortunate how regulated the Internet's becoming. It seems like you're most susceptive to new interests at a younger age, so I really hope these age restrictions don't end up greatly limiting new user's potential for finding and getting into lifelong creative crafts and interests here, as plenty have in the past, with a community that'd encourage it; provide a place of kinship and purpose that lasts... I wonder if I would have ever even tried Flash had I not stumbled upon this place at 13, and gotten the occupations I have because of that, a few years later and I was already pretty stuck in my ways.

The age-requirement change on PMs seems useful too, though unfortunate there too that image support's getting paywalled, and I wonder if the limitation will really limit the abuse. I mean there are plenty of image-hosting websites out there, and I assume you'll still be able to send links... seems flagging + a regular blacklist may be better.

I hadn't even heard that term actually... wonder if we've really had any small governments during my lifetime, feels like everything's been getting progressively more and more intrusive, and regulated, more and more instances of control developed under the pretenses of progress, integrity and safety. Even if it's all done with good intent bureaucracy has a tendency to compound, and the reasons for cumulative regulation muddle.
We could probably use some kind of societal reset, like the Mayans used to practice. Every few centuries just burn everything down and start anew; begone all old, outdated non-serving dogmas and customs...

This is ironically one of the few changes I liked. YouTube has a similar age requirement that people just ignore (or at least it did, I dunno if it still does), and NG has far less moderation and fewer content guidelines than YouTube does.

If the minor is a paid Supporter, they would still be able to send an image to an adult account and if the adult is a Supporter they could reply with an image. There is still risk there but the Supporter status adds more accountability and a barrier that greatly reduces the potential for abuse.

This month we raised the minimum sign-up age to 14 and we intend to gradually raise it this year until we settle on 16 as the minimum age.
The next round of updates will make it so you can't PM a minor account unless they follow you, message you first, or are friends with you. This is also in line with UK regulatory guidance but also for the best overall. If you never noticed, there is already a flag button in each PM you receive, if you ever get something creepy.

I don't like living in this timeline. Why does privacy have to be such a fantasy thing? I feel like Ellis Redding at the end of Shawshank redemption. Privacy is something I could talk about a lot; I'm not sure that would be the most suitable thing to do in this forum however. I think that one day during my lifetime it will feel normal to have surveillance in our homes, and people have smartphones so in a way it's already like that. On the topic of pm images; it feels a bit harsh to limit it to supporters. It would feel a bit more fair to say one month of supporter status may grant unlimited permission to send images in pms. I do understand the concern, I have seen some things myself at a young age (specifically targeted at young people..) that I wish I didn't. People will be people.
Another possible solution could be limiting the ability to send images in pms to accounts that are like 3 month old or something; that could be somewhat circumvented however by mass creating accounts.
I wonder if algorithms could be used to recognise all common shock images and instantly ban the offender for sending them

Do not get me wrong, I think the changes on Newgrounds directly can help curb the problematic creepers from contacting minors. However, it is not fool proof because users also have their own individual servers that they are ultimately responsible for moderating those interactions unless through discord DM.
Its a larger problem that goes beyond the boundaries of Newgrounds and that's where some level of vigilence still need be applied.
Just to be clear, everyone here is on the same page as you are but we also have to approach these things realistically.
