See, I actually have the decency to admit that I have no skill.

Ah, that's kind of you, but I'm getting on in years. Won't have the time to become as good as I like at music AND filmmaking AND game dev AND sound design AND programming AND finish education AND decent pay AND belonging AND research and development AND authorship AND contentedness in life. So much to do, so little time. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll get half-okay at 3 out of these 11. Because that's not even a quarter of the list.

Don’t focus on so many things, focus on the necessities and 1-2 hobbies, no one is saying you have to be talented at everything

mods best be on the lookout for ai garbage cuz we may not know whenever it's fake or real unless someone speaks out

@Quest and I actually collaborated on a really handy guide for spotting AI audio, if no one has mentioned already. Once you hear Suno across a few genres, it's a lot easier to FEEL the AI, even if you're not able to describe what's necessarily wrong with the songs in question.

idk how frontpaging works exactly but based on the fact that there used to be a thread to suggest stuff to be front paged then it's probably mods/admins that control what's frontpaged, it's most likely so that a mod listened to the first 10 seconds without noticing it was AI thinking it sounded good and frontpaged it

Luckily for me, I don't often hang out at audio, but to see this as a problem is disturbing already. I hope the mods here get their act together in keeping that section pure. We don't want any AI garbage here.

It’s now been taken down but it also interested me a little bit since I see a lot of really good artists on here, and they never or barely get frontpaged. But yet some Suno AI track can get frontpaged.
whatre your thoughts on it?

Well that's not terrifying at all(!)

yeah totally not gonna replicate human emotion and pretend to be us in the future as well XD

Well, if you read The Sandman, a short story by E. T. A. Hoffmann published in 1816, the problem of automated machines that replicate humans is already addressed. The protagonist, Nathanael, falls in love with Olimpia the "daughter" of Nathanael's professor, Spallanzani, who is later revealed to be an automaton, or robot (a wooden doll more specifically), and this revelation is one of the elements that incites Nathanael's madness. At the end of the story all boys require their girlfriends to perform certain tasks to make sure they are not automated wooden dolls. In the story we see both the fear of alchemy and the fear of automatons. Olympia’s creation as an automaton is shrouded in mystery, and her reveal as a false woman evokes horror. Spallanzani utilizes the mechanical engineering of clockwork to construct her, but her ability to speak like and resemble a real woman is left purposely vague to increase the sense of mystery. The theme of uncanniness (unheimlich in German since the story is written in German) is quite prominent.

Nathaniel’s psychological break in the aftermath of the revelation introduces a larger fear about how such scientific advancements could be used to fool and harm unsuspecting individuals. Likewise, Olympia’s presentation to society causes a great deal of alarm among the public who no longer trust whether their wives and lovers are real people. There is significant anxiety about the prospect of automata making their way into society, with people not being able to distinguish them from flesh-and-blood humans. The overall distrust and fear surrounding scientific advancements is clear throughout the tale. I highly suggest you to give it a read because it's another superb example of how art, in the shape of literature this time, is able to predict how things may evolve and warn those who can actually listen. And this is why I always tell people to always listen (sorry for the pun considering the thread XD) to science and art. Two forms able to warn people and inspire them.

Sorry if I made this little literary excursus in this audio thread (I saw a semantic connection between the two) which I find extremely important, so thank you for making this thread.

but in the case of Udio, everything is ambiguous. It's a fucking powerful AI, if used correctly and handled correctly, it's a very tough weapon to kill all the hopes of aspiring musicians here.

I wouldn't put so much faith in one person; everone makes mistakes, including me. An AI track was frontpaged 4 days ago. Whoever frontpaged it (Tom or otherwise) didn't recognize it. I've missed things before and I've flagged thousands of those pesky AI tracks. I wouldn't expect anyone to be 100 percent accurate at knowing if something is AI, but the person that frontpaged that track definitely needs more practice.

Also yeah, Udio is scary. It's more often used by scouted users looking to further their fake musical career comapred to unscouted users just looking to getting "their" "song" in GD.

On a somewhat related note, I had a weird dream once that Suno and Udio merged companies to form "Sudio", which is also a tongue-in-cheek reference to how both of them are getting sued.

You were right! Just yesterday, one audio that was uploaded in March 2024 made the front page. A year ago! It came as a surprise to me when I woke up yesterday, having started listening to songs on NG
