Meh, in my opinion Jacksons are lame. They look nice, but the necks suck. Too wide. But everything in guitar world in down to personal taste.

ESP are alright. I've only played an LTD KH and that was pretty good.
You might wanna check out Ibanez too. I.e. Check out Ibanez!

Dean/Washburn are decent metal axes too apparently. Though I've never tried one. BC Rich are rather popular too. Avoid the Bronze Series though.

Ermm, with guitars all you can do if try some and see what you think. Everyone is different and different things appeal to different people. So in fact recommendations don't work. Just get out there and try some shit out, see what YOU like.
