I fully agree. I hate 99% of all metal no matter what it is. I just said it's so fucking huge here.
Ah. I especially hate the metal that pretends to be hard dm or hard bm, but is still mallcore pap. That bugs me even more.

true
I might like the music on a rare occasion, I have a very weird taste, but I hate it when a band poses with a false image. It's the same with people. I don't mind people that listen to nu metal or whatever (most of my friends do), as long as they don't go poser on me.
OMFG IM SUW HEVVY CUZ AI LIEK COAL CHAMBUR...
that sort of stuff pisses me off the most.

That's what death vocals should sound like!

Ghoul, the metalcore/nu-metal crowd here are pretty much as I described in my earlierpost. =P I thought they all liked to stick to the same trends everywhere. =/

The way you described them is how they are over here in Aus. I know heaps of people in both the metal scene and the metalcore/hardcore scene, and it seems that the people in the latter seem to have a wider range of taste. The line is really blurred.

Do you say this because Shake sent you some Job For A Cowboy and you thought it was good DM till he told you it was Metalcore?

It seems you hate 99% of Death Metal, because of how the vocals sound. I don't really care much for how vocals sound as long as it suits the music. I mean look at how screeching Black Metal vocals sound. Some sound like my little brother when he freaks out, (That's just my opinion though) but it suits the music. So, it doesn't really bother me. Yes, I am aware that not all Black Metal bands don't have screeching vocals.

No. I didn't like it. I never liked it. I hate that style of "dm" anyway; it lacks musical content. Shaik said it was DM influenced metalcore and I said "No, it sounds like mainstream pap."

And to Kronik, I was just citing an example. I don't like any aspect of 99% of dm; it's just noise to me. It's like listening to a jackhammer.

Nah, mine is more like static ^_^ I'd rather listen to static than jackhammers. To me, randomly hammering out grossly distorted palm muted riffs drowned out by the snare drums with hideous vocals isn't music. I guess I just like things like melody and harmony and composition.

Here the people in the latter describe dm and bm as being "RHEUHFIEHEUILDHUE SATAN REHUIWSHDKSLHFJKSLD" which pisses me off.

The only CD I've orgasmed over lately was Behemoth's And The Forest Dreams Eternally.

I also like things with strong melody and nice harmonies, but sometimes I need my head crushed by some crunshingly heavy riffage and thick groove. You wouldn't be too happy with my band Coffinfeeder ;)

I don't like the majority of death metal either, but that's because it bores me. Ironically, I do love the melo-death genre, but for the melody and the (sometimes) high-quality musicianship and intricacies of songs. Regular death metal often bores me...

So what if we talk about black metal? Talked about power metal for long enough...

At least black metal has atmosphere - name any non-over-the-top death metal band that has good atmosphere, and I'll check them out right away...

Sorry...this is one thing I've wondered, and never quite understood about black metal...

What exactly the fuck is 'atmosphere'? Sounds highly pretentious and not unlike something a first year college arts student would say about their latest pictorial abortion.

I like the songs, or rather I love the songs.
The only album I have however is My Arms, Your Hearse to I find listening to it in full is quite an endurance.

I saw Opeth in Sydney on Tuesday. Opeth perforing deliverance was the greatest thing I've ever seen. It blew away all the hunchback faggoth dimmu borgir fans and emos.

Opeth live were... "Hardcore man"... *imagines myself as Animal Mother in the movie Full Metal Jacket commenting on Private Joker shooting a vietnamese school girl (who shot a few american marines including Joker's best friend) in the face* ..."Fucking hardcore"...

I am so happy that I have seen Opeth perform Deliverance.
I'm in a world of shit (including Dimmu Borgir fans) . . . yes. But
I've seen Opeth live.
And I am not afraid. (they were that good)

Does music put you in a mood? Well, atmosphere is the mood the music puts you in. It's the aura the music is surrounded with. For instance, Immortal has an icy atmosphere, since their music conjures up images of ice. Old behemoth has a cold, pagan atmosphere, because their music conjures up images of old pagan warriors from Poland. Slayer has a hellish atmosphere, because their music conjures up images of hellfire and slaughter. Likewise, Burzum has a very pagan, transcandental atmosphere because his music (at least for me) puts the listener into a meditative state of being. Atmosphere is the psychological effect the music has on the listener. Some music listeners don't like atmosphere, but X_Imperium_X and I do.

Oh, and X, Setherial is a band you should check out. And they just made Behemoth's old BM cd's available online *buys* I'm getting ATFDE and Grom.

Music has no deep psychological effects on me. If its minor, it gives a sad aura. If its major, a happy one. Thats as far as music effects me.

So basically I can't determine atmospheres in music - not in rock/metal music anyway. All I hear is guitars, drums and vocals.

That's why I love black metal -- it's so transcandental and effective.

I don't get anything from BM either - well those Behemoth songs you reccomended did nothing.

Maybe its some kind of transistion you go through in life at some point.
