I don't really care for Ronnie James Dio. I don't think he's anything special vocally. His voice is quite boring to me. There are far, far, far better metal singers out there.
In other news I got Dream Theaters 'Images and Words' today. Although the album I wanted was 'Awake' and it was in stock... I really dunno why I didn't buy that instead :S.
I did want 'Images and Words', but I was planning on getting 'Awake' first.

That's nice to hear, I didn't quite expect you to like it, don't know why :) Thank you ;)
and yes, I like DIO too, but I don't know him too well, but of course I know the Holy Diver album. It's classic.

no, im calling it nu-metal because its a whiny wattered down made for mtv version of older in flames. it has its moments, but theyre hard to come by.

ya. One thing I noticed about a lot of metalcore bands nowadays, anyway, is that they are notmetal in disguise. It's the same attitude, same crowd, same poserish attitude, and the same prettyboyness.
Well, my friend and I had a disgustion about forming a band. I mentioned I was forming a band a few pages back. Anyway, we haven't come up wuith a name yet, but we are planning on being these genres: Death Metal/Thrash Metal/Heavy Metal/Hard Rock. We thought it would be kind of boring just to be one Genre.

Better to be good at one genre than be shit at four.

HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH.
And Ghoul, I'm going to have to disagree with you about the metalcore and nu-metal crowd similarities. The metalcore crowd seems to be more centered around the tight shirts, jeans, short hair, and spinkicking/moshing. Also, the metalcore crowd seems to either lean more towards real, but accessible metal OR hardcore. The nu-metal crowd seems to be more into a satanic image (or goths as all the "normal" people like to call them >.>) wearing a lot of black clothes with tons of chains, died hair, painted fingernails, ect. Also, they tend to mainly mosh at their shows. They lean either more towards accessible gothic/black metal (Cradle, Dimmu, Darkthrone) OR modern rock and even some rap.
OH yeah, my dream is to go to Finland and go to one of the Metal Festivals

Good point. I did want the band to be just Death/Thrash metal. It was all my friend's idea to be more than one or two genres.

because its the biggest country in terms of metal, I mean that lots of bands come from there.
thats right, and if you are a lover of the BLACK, Norway is the father of the black metal, and they are the best

The Norwegian Black Metal scene is vastly overrated.

Maybe not biggest country but one of the biggest countries.

meh, not really
metal is incredibly big especially in the Benelux and Germany, Scandinavia has got a pretty large scene too, but most bands from there suck.

I agree; the French scene seems to be running very strong, as well as the Deutsch and Swedish scene. The Norwegian black metal bands (especially newer ones) seem to stick to the "HAIL SATAN AND KILL ALL CHRISTIANS" theme.
hey guys i just got off being band. Anything new happin around here?

I'm going to have to stop you right there. That's the numetal crowd here. It's all skaters and emos. The numetal crowd on the west coast IS the metalcore crowd, i.e. the same people who listen to devildriver and atreyu listen to staind and slapnuts.
The nu-metal crowd seems to be more into a satanic image (or goths as all the "normal" people like to call them >.>) wearing a lot of black clothes with tons of chains, died hair, painted fingernails, ect. Not here. Most numetalheads have never heard of darkthrone or think they suck. You're describing the goth crowd, which is TOTALLY different than the numetal crowd.
And to Goatchrist, BLASPHEMY!!! Three of the greatest metal bands came from Norway: Mayhem, Borknagar, and Emperor.

That's the olskool bands you're talking about. Newer bands like Borknagar, Dodsheimsgard, [name progressive black metal band here], plus old bands like Enslaved, Ulver, and Arcturus avoided that theme. That's a broad generalization that is true for only a few bands like Mayhem and Darkthrone. Even Burzum didn't have that theme.

Not really. Most german NSBM bands suck ass with shit production. I personally love a lot of pagan scandinavian black metal; it's best from there.

I'm mainly referring to non-BM, anything not black is fucking huge here

That sounds like the theme of Hypocrisy's older stuff.

Eh. I just realized I hate 99% of all death metal. Only death metal I like is either so hilarious it's good, or it's death metal with a black/doom atmosphere like Dawn of Dreams or Deteriorot. I also realized I hate almost all grindcore, unless it's olskool. Basically, I hate newskool dm. Cuz I actually like olskool dm, I just hate new dm and new bm. Fuck, this is hard to say. I hate all the mainstream influences of modern dm and grindcore. The vocals even suck. They're not funny like CC or Deicide, or good like Deteriorot or Beherit (bm band, dm vocals), they just sound like somebody's getting a swirlie or getting their balls ripped off. I can't even understand them, it just sounds like "ruh ruh ruh ruh ruhruhruh ruhruhr ruh ruh ruh"
Fuck, I can't stand modern dm.

Oh, and Demilich, too. They're the best Dm band in my opinion. Antti Bowman is the best dm vocalist ever.

Ah. I especially hate the metal that pretends to be hard dm or hard bm, but is still mallcore pap. That bugs me even more.
