Ain't been in here in a long time. Anybody else feel like modern metal sucks? I'm not saying there ain't no good bands making good stuff it's the stuff that's popular. Like especially modern metalcore. I used to have a bone to pick with metalcore in general but I came around to realize it's pretty awesome-- and really I was in my local scene which includes metalcore guys and it was cool back then I guess I was just too elitist.
Just want to insert that if you are a metalhead elitist, don't stop being you man. Elitist attitude is part of what makes the metal guys more interesting to talk to. Heavily opinionated and passionate.
Anyway, yeah. I think all the stuff I hear come out nowadays is stale and boring and it's been like this for years now.
There're some niche bands like folk metal of various types that's cool but some of these bands only have an exposure due to the Internet and realistically have vapid/terrible lyrics and are one trick ponies.

Not sure about newer metal bands / newer metal core bands, but older metalcore is definitely good.
Personally, this album is my favorite metalcore album and has been for a long time now.
yesterday we went to another convert at Vegas bar. three authorial bands played. we were to go in a big group, but most gave up, so only 5 of us showed.
with all due respect to local rock bands, only the last one was good. the acoustics of the bar is very bad, but the last band managed to play audible music. they played good vibe music that is kinda meh, but I could hear it. so yeah, the two other bands played okay, but the bad mixing or something made it not very enjoyable at all. anyway, I think this night was the most crowded, even though previous concerts had "better" tribute bands played :P very strange. people were unusually "enjoying" although the general alienating mixing. and the usual concert-goes were not present at all; very strange. and when it ended, we went to a 24-hour backery only to find out they are not 24-hour anymore, so we couldn't have that night-snack and eat churros :( mixed experience

Hmmm, i never was a big fan of periphery, not a fan of prog or modern metal in general, but this one is good. I should re-check periphery in the future.

Hails! long time i dont log in! It's been some rough months, but also some really fun ones.
I saw e-force (Eric Forrest from Voivod) last month along a bunch more of bands, it was pretty good, despite that i never was a big fan of Voivod! I reccomend the band's second album "Modified Poison" if someone is willing to give it a try. I'm also planning to watch sargeist live on september.
Oh, and i've been on the hunt for CDs/Cassettes. I found some nice underground Death Metal from the 90's along others:
Definitely one of the best albums i've listened to since Leviathan's Tenth Sub-level. I regret not listening to it before, because it is probably the best CD i got in my shelf right now.
Soundwriting reminds me of the classic 90's bands such as Burzum, Darkthrone, Emperor, but it also has that doomish parts, reminiscent of Candlemass, Black Sabbath, Paradise Lost, etc. The vocals are really similar to the silencer ones, wich i never enjoyed, but they also finish to add that sense of despair and descent to madness to the album. The band really knows how to make a personal sound.
666/10! some choirs and keyobards would have crowned the whole thing, but still a great Album!

Good stuff. The name reminds me of Testament's D.N.R. song.
Well well, quite a few posts here since I last checked. Nice! I'm still not really getting back into nu metal (which kind of has a resurgence it seems), but I do appreciate the nostalgic feeling that keeps coming back with 90s KoRn, for example.
I actually sang "Freak on a Leash" with a friend at a Karaoke bar recently - that was quite fun, I gotta admit ^^
In terms of music, I'm currently listening to Pestilence's "Testimony of the Ancients" and enjoying that one a lot. The following song sounds like full-fledged melodic death metal - back in 1991! :

I've been listening to some Abominable Putridity lately. It's slam metal.

Quite crushing and well done. I've warmed up towards that style a bit after seeing a few bands like Ingested with Fallujah live this year. As long as it's not full-blown "cave-man" styled beating, there's some enjoyable moments to be found within that style.

That's totally fair. For what it's worth, a few years back I saw a Korn tribute band at a live venue on its opening night and ngl they were pretty fun. Would I go out my way to see the real deal? Not particularly but if they happened to be around at let's say a festival I'm at, yeah sure.

I don't think I ever gave Pestilence a listen. Not sure why. In terms of recent listens (that isn't fueling my King Gizzars hyperfixation), I've started listening to some more Gojira and they're slowly warming up to me. They did get my interest with Fortitude a few years back and now I'm poking my head in with the other works they've done, particularly L'Enfant Sauvage and Magma.
But if there's a band that I highly doubt I'll warm up to is Sleep Token. I've given them some listens before and even see them on stage for a little bit but... I don't vibe with them at all.
