A lot of the time, those of us in the metal community tend to take ourselves and the music way too seriously. I'm looking at you, "TRVE KVLT" black metal fans.

Happily though, there are some bands that absolutely do not take themselves too seriously and try to have a bit of fun. My favourite example of this is Arnocorps. They're a band that sings only about Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. Shockingly, they're not the only Arnold themed band out there with Austrian Death Machine also proving that you can't keep a weird idea down. Personally, I prefer Arnocorps to Austrian Death Machine, but I suppose that's a matter of personal preference.

Anyway, here are two fantastically hilarious songs from Arnocorps to lighten your day.

I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was.

Now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

It'll happen to you!

Agree. Metalheads make it too much of an identity thing and the gatekeeping gets silly.

That riffage is pretty sweet for such a goofy idea. Speaking of Commando, I made this stupid shit which people seemed to like. I LIED!

Cool of you to keep this thread alive, 'Tato.

So the other day when I was listening to that Dragonland song, I got thinking about concept albums. It's kind of a rare thing to come across in the metal world. Dragonland is actually a great example as they've released two concept albums that follow the same story. Probably the most famous concept album is Tommy from The Who.

But we're not here to talk about famous stuff. Nah, we gotta go a bit more obscure. Did you know that Christmas stalwarts, Trans-Siberian Orchestra released a concept album about Beethoven matching wits with the devil over his unfinished Tenth Symphony? It exists, it's awesome and is one of my favourite albums.

I give you, Beethoven's Last Night. I would kill to see a stage production of this.

Another great concept album is Jomsviking by Amon Amarth. The Way of Vikings owns super hard.

I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was.

Now what I'm with isn't it and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

iu_534547_9832141.pngCan anyone tell me more about this? I found this while google image searching “king diamond andy laroque” I’m guessing it’s the cover to a old tab book or something in that vein. Whatever it is, I want to know more about it. A, I love King Diamond. B, it’s just a glorious image. C, the title makes this so much better.

Googling “In the gothic mode by danny mccue” didn’t get me anything. The Pinterest page the image linked to just had it in a subcategory of “promotional material” and “training” (not that I know how to use Pinterest). Reverse image searching just gave me the Pinterest link again. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask around. I apologize if there’s something simple I could’ve done.

After some cursory Google and Amazon searching, I also couldn't really find anything about the book. I agree that it does look like a guitar tab or practice book. Hell, I couldn't even really find anything about Danny McCue.

Though I did find this hilarious IMDB link to a Hulk Hogan movie that some guy named Danny McCue was in, so I guess not all is lost.

Sometimes, bands or artists get tired of doing the same thing over and over. To scratch the itch of wanting to do something new and outside of their established band and without alienating their fanbase, they form side projects. Whether it be a member of band going solo, starting their own band or even the band itself doing something new, side projects are always interesting.

One of my favourite side projects unfortunately didn't last too long. Back in the mid 90's, Sepultura frontman Max Cavalera (who has done more side projects than anyone, I think) created Nailbomb. Nailbomb only released one studio album, 1994's Point Blank, but holy shit does it rule.

In 2007, Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe decided he wanted to do something a bit different and gave us Emigrate. He still retained some of the Neue Deutsche Harte sound, but created something completely apart from Rammstein. In Rammstein's latest albums (LIFAD and Rammstein), you can actually hear Richard's Emigrate influence coming through. Which is neat.

I used to be with it. Then they changed what it was.

Yo guys, you are hella active!

Just read Tom Fulp's name in a near-ancient e-mail in my inbox, so I thought I should come back after a while and ask:

What's up people? Welcome to the new guys around here lately, cool to see that there's still interest in heavy music around this place.

For music news, check out this melodic black metal band from Germany, a pretty awesome debut album right here:

wait, really? one of my favorite albums ever is by a "melodic black metal" band, and it was released in the 90s. Naglfar in their prime in my opinion :] Highly recommend Vittra

Yes indeed, Naglfar were a hella good BM band in their earlier days.

"Beyond Unseen Gateways" by Ildaruni (Armenia, of all countries!) is one of the finest melodic black metal records I've heard last year, especially for fans of the more Greek-sounding style of the genre:

I'm purposefully pushing my own new video for those who'd like to see what I do nowadays. I've been working on new music for Adder's Fork, but also doing some covers for songs that mean a lot to me, like Oomph's Ice Coffin. The band turned REALLY bad after 1996, but started out as a quite fantastic 90s heavy band with electronics and were also the precursor to Rammstein in many ways.

Enjoy, if you like!

Today is a day that I just feel like listening to Ronnie James Dio. I am so eternally grateful that I was able to see him perform live before he passed. Dude was a literal elf, but had such a powerful voice that made him sound like a giant. His is one of the few celebrity deaths that actually made me sad.

Also hot take. Dio Sabbath was better than Ozzy Sabbath.

Not a hot take for me at least.

Hell, my favourite Black Sabbath album is either Mob Rules or Dehumanizer. Can't decide. Never could. Heaven and Hell is a veeeeeeeery close 3rd place.

...and yeah, Ronnie's death was also one of the very few ones in my life that hit hard. So did Mike Howe's suicide last year.

I will eternally be grateful to my sister for randomly buying me Heaven & Hell when I was just getting into metal. Neither of us had no idea anyone other than Ozzy had fronted Sabbath. The Dio albums were so different from the Ozzy ones, and I fell in love with them.

Want a hot take?

Ozzy Sabbath has better and more memorable songs but Tony Martin is a better singer than Ozzy.

I agree with that so much but then again, Ozzy Sabbath, Dio Sabbath, Martin Sabbath, all good as far as I'm aware. Though that said, it was only the other day where I finally listened through Born Again and it's not too bad.

Now I just need to listen to Seventh Star.

They all have their fair share of good music though Martin kinda gets the raw end of it considering they literally had Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio singing for them before him and those are two people that are hard to live up to in terms of being a singer for a band.

Though that said, it was only the other day where I finally listened through Born Again and it's not too bad.

I still can't get into Born Again though. I don't know what it is but the production just doesn't sound good to me and Ian Gillan's singing doesn't mesh with the music for me.

Now I just need to listen to Seventh Star.

I actually unironically love Seventh Star. Though I also like sort of "safe" 80s hard rock music which honestly is what the album boils down to. Though Glenn Hughes is a great singer and he really elevates the entire album with his vocals seeing as it would be a pretty boring album without him.

Avenged sevenfold!! Such nostalgia and such melodic guitar cords drums and, EVERYTHING!

This post makes me happy too haha. It's just like 16 years ago when I found this thread. Damn that's a long time.

I was having the "what's the best Black Sabbath album" conversation recently and we only talked about Ozzy's stuff. I have to say I'm more into the first 6 albums than anything else in the discography. I just haven't given the other stuff a real chance I guess.

I was saying that I liked Sabbath Bloody Sabbath the best, which is pretty much my answer to the question if I had to choose. He was saying that it's definitely not the best and "even Tony didn't like it that much", and that Sabotage is better, with Vol. 4 being the best Black Sabbath album.

I like Vol. 4 but the production lets it down for me to be completely honest. He then said "Get the new remastered vinyl version, it sounds heaps better." Checkmate.

And that was that. I say Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and he says Vol. 4 but who can really pick when there's like 20 now.
