@DoctorStrongbad @zornuzkull Have you guys given us your customary ten (or more) favorite metal bands?

Well, come on then. That's really the only thing you need to do to become a "member" of the club.
Then we can assess the types of metal music you listen to and give you suggestions based on what you listen to.

Haha! That wasn't me though. I never heard of Prostitute Disfigurement, and Meshuggah is a band I barely even know, so I wouldn't have recommanded it.

Michael Amott - guitar
Christopher Amott - guitar
Johan Liiva - vocals
Daniel Erlandsson - drums
plus
Sharlee D'Angelo - bass
is reforming under the name Black Earth to tour and play material from the albums Black Earth (1996), Stigmata (1998) and Burning Brides (1999)?
Of course they are only touring Japan, but I like the idea of these guys playing together again. I personally haven't enjoyed the latest releases of Arch Enemy, and even if she's from my neighborhood, I can't stand their new vocalist Alyssa.

In Flames
I used to listen to Clayman and Colony a lot back when I was in high school and afterward (2005 to 2008 ish). I also saw them live a little after Come Clarity came out. What albums do you like the most?

I was saying nothing to do with my personal opinion on any of them.
edit: Also, I like SOAD.

Sharlee's in both Mercyful Fate and Witchery. noice. Also had no idea Jeff Loomis joined them. He's really good.

Powerslave, The X factor, Brave new world. Honestly, I enjoy most of there stuff.

The Jester's Race
I have seen Iron Maiden in concert for the X Factor tour.

It's funny just how much I've listened to Maiden's music in the early 2000s when I was in high school, but it was alwys the same five albums: Brave New World, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave, Fear Of The Dark and The Number Of The Beast (which is one of my least favorite).
It's been like two years since I actually listened to the first records, Iron Maiden and Killers, with Di'Anno on vocals. And it was a true revelation. I think that they are my two favorites now. I liked the punk elements on these records. And even though I recognize that Maiden developped a more distinctive sound afterward, I still have a weak spot for these album. I liked my Maiden dirtier.
I will check them out. Always up for good suggestions.
Illnath shares a lot of similarities with CoF, but I like Illnath better. Abigail Williams is a strange beast. If you really like CoF, I recommand starting with In The Shadow Of A Thousand Suns, because their subsequent release was more like Emperor, and the next two were more in the realms of atmospheric black metal. Not bad material, just less similar to Cradle of Filth.

From Stormblåst to Death Cult Armageddon, or something like that?
The Jester's Race
Great album :)

Jeff Loomis is with Arch Enemy, but will not be involved in the new project Black Earth. And even if Loomis is good, it doesn't seem to help Arch Enemy write better music...

Iron Maiden is more poetry than music. They have done a great job keeping there quality, even when the lead singer left and was replaced for the X Factor.

Honestly, I enjoy each Iron Maiden record, and not really a bad one in the bunch. They are also awesome in concert.

Dark Funeral is a band that I don't know very well. The only album of theirs that I have is Diabolis Interium, which is considered by many to be their best. I like it, but I've never digged any deeper.
But if it's good, then maybe I'll give it a listen :)

Glad to hear it. Always good to check out new bands. Let us know what you think.
Anybody like the Deftones here? They've got a new album coming this April, already got one single. I've been listening to it and the rest of their discography religiously lately.
Personally they're probably my favorite band. Amongst my other favorites are the Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Anthrax, and Aborted to name a few.

They are okay. I will check out the new album before I purchase it.
The Weird Global Appeal of Heavy Metal
Surprisingly insightful article on metal and globalization in the Wall Street Journal. When we usually get articles that reduces metal as a weird thing that can only have appeal to teenage social outcasts, this article actually tries to explain what metal is, how it expands and to describe the complexity and diversity that goes along with it.
I recommend ready it, guys.
Of course the article isn't an "in-depth" exploration of metal and still has an "outsider" perspective on metal, but there is still quality journalism behind it.

It is always good to see how metal effects different parts of society. Thanks for the link. I will check it out.
I got into Before the Dawn in 2014, definitely recommend their final two albums, Deathstar Rising and Rise of the Phoenix to anyone who's curious. Unfortunately, they've disbanded since 2013.

That is a great band. It is a shame when a great one breaks ups, but lame ones drag on forever.
I dunno what it is about them but I absolutely adore Nekrogoblikon. Their live shows are so damn energetic and the concept/execution of the band is ridiculous enough to be unique.
Definitely recommend their album Stench to anyone who's in for a solid metal album, Goblin Island or Heavy Meta for anyone wanting a bit more concept in the mix.
Speaking of concept, anyone pick up Babymetal's newest album? They played Gimme Choko on Late Night w/Stephen Colbert last night, caught me way off guard.
