Went to one of their concerts not too long ago.
They are most of a post-hardcore band then a metal band, really. And it's funny that there never was a hardcore thread on NG... I wonder why that is...

Lol sorry I didn't follow the metal code :D

I totally forgot how all metal "subgenres" should be strictly placed in different sections. And we should all follow it's hierarchy.

'Cause that's what metal is all about right? Following rules and a strict hierarchy? :3

I'm working on a top 30 black metal tracks, and I was wanted to share what I have so far with you guys so you could help me out a little. You can replace any track from this list and replace it with something else, or maybe just suggest a new list completely. So here goes:

1. Darkthrone - Kathaarian Life Code
2. Satyricon - Walk the Path of Sorrow
3. Ulver - I Troldskog Faren Vild
4. Ulver - Hymne I: Wolf and Fear
5. Darkthrone - Summer of the Diabolical Holocaust
6. Sigh - A Victori Of Dakini
7. Taake - Hordalands Doedskvad Part I
8. Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
9. Fell Voices - (untitled) (2 from the 2010 album)
10. Peste Noire - Le Mort Joyeux
11. Austere - Just for a Moment...
12. Balrog - Le baiser du fouet
13. Deafheaven - Dream House

I'm so expecting hatred for this one :P

14. Wolves In The Throne Room - Ahrimanic Trance
15. Darkthrone - The Pagan Winter
16. Taake - Hordalands Doedskvad Part III
17. Agalloch - Into The Painted Grey
18. Gris - Il était une forêt...
19. Mayhem - Freezing Moon
20. Ulver - Hymne III: Wolf and Hatred
21. Sigh - At My Funeral
22. Xasthur - The Prison Of Mirrors
23. Agalloch - The Wilderness
24. Chaos Moon - Abstract Tongues
25. Mayhem - Pure Fucking Armageddon
26. Carpathian Forest - It's Darker Then You Think
27. Enslaved - As Fire Swept Clean The Earth
28. Fen - Colossal Voids
29. Monarque - Mes Blessures
30. Monarque - La Vallée des Larmes

It's still a work in progress, and I still need to listen to quite a lot of black metal, especially early black metal like Venom, Celtic Frost and Bathory so don't go too hard on me.

Sigh - Voices

It is. But I haven't gotten to listen to it as well as the new Ghost or Uncle Acid albums because I listen to a lot of my music on my phone due to not having a working computer for an ungodly amount of time. I'm thinking about buying a laptop soon, ripping my cds onto it as well as copying my music onto it off my external hard drive, then putting said albums onto my phone so I can actually listen to them.

Though out of everything that came out last year, I was indescribably disappointed with The Sword - High Country.

Purple is pretty good. It could probably grow on me with more listens like Chlorine and Wine did listening to it on its own a few times.

I honestlythink my favorite song off it is Morningstar.
I really dig Baroness' heavier but still melodic songs they've had on their last 2 albums. So my liking it seemed like a no brained since I songs like The Line Between and Sea Lungs were two of my favorites off Yellow & Green.

Holy shit, I just realized that they have other albums I haven't heard yet. Getting on that right now. Love the heavy + melodic sound too.

Yeah. They have 4 albums, 2 EPs, a split EP with the band Unpersons, and a live EP called Live at Maida Vale.
Out of all of that I have all 4 albums on cd, 3 on vinyl, their 2 EPS First & Second and Live at Maida Vale on vinyl too. Only thing I need is Yellow & Green on vinyl and A Grey Sigh In A Flower Husk (the split).

I'd need to listen to the album again. Chlorine and Wine is the only one I know by name because I Checked it out before the album came out and listened a few times and it didn't do much for me before.

Dude First, Second and Red Album are all so good. I grew to really like Blue Record a lot over time as well.

I still haven't heard Yellow and Green

Well this is Morningstar.
Also the last track Crossroads of Infinity seems very pointless.

I still haven't heard Yellow and Green

How? It's such a good album! Yellow is heavier but also feels like a proggier progression from Blue whereas Green feels a bit like what was expanded upon in Purple.

Was going to post links to their 3 previous albums as well as First & Seconds because I have all of that on my Youtube channel but for some reason Yellow & Green and Blue Record are both gone....Red Album and First & Second are still on there though.

I checked them out on Google Play. Good shit.

BTW - anyone else hate when metal bands put softer interlude tracks in the middle of an album? Or poetry (Sikth) or something else. I get it works sometimes, but man it can be so jarring. I almost always skip those tracks because they're so dumb.

Well sometimes it helps make the song immediately after it feel even heavier by comparison.
Like take Master Of Reality for instance.
You get Lord of This World which goes into Solitude then into Into The Void.
Any of which are great songs on their own.
But hearing something lighter going into something arguably A LOT heavier gives it a little more....oomph. Ya know?
But that's just me.

Softer tracks between heavier tracks is good, but if their just "interludes", they often feel like filler or a cheap way to transition between tracks without putting much effort into it. When it comes to spoken words, poetry and tracks that are just there to create some kind of conceptual album, it usually doesn't work too well. Blind Guardian and Kamelot are guilty of trying too hard with such tracks which usually results into skips for me.

But like Viper said, if they are softer tracks and not just place holders, then it can work very well. Master Of Reality is one of the best examples he could have taken to prove his point.

I still have a problem with how big media treats information. There job is to inform, to relay information to the general public. Now of course you don't want media to talk about every little insignificant event, but what you do want is a media that informs people of relevant information, not just popular information. If the media always just strives for popularity, it just ends up talking about what people want to ear, and then starts the visious circle of useless information... You get people who do not learn crap and basically use big media to seek information they easily gain through their Facebook page already, and end up seeking information they already care about instead of looking for new stuff.

Quorthon was A MASSIVE influence on todays music. The guy inspired tens of thounsands of bands and helped shape metal music in such an important way... it's just totally ridiculous that no fucking big media has the intelligence to share this information with the public. A real shame.
