I don't mind their extensive use of the keys--it never took anything away from me. They've done consistently well. My favorite Summoning album will probably remain Minas Morgul though.

They're a good band, but sometimes the keys and simulated brass stuff and whatnot can get pretty hokey at times. I can't remember which albums I liked more because it's been a long time since I listened to them, but I think I remember liking Lugburz the most for not having as much of the fake orchestra sound going on. Though I guess most people like that one the least.

So I'd been subscribed to this guy for a while but didn't find his Bandcamp until yesterday. I really, really wish I'd found it sooner. It's been a long time since I found music to be so instantly gratifying.

Think Meshuggah, with a little more of a melodic influence and random movie samples popping in every few minutes.

I finally got to see Manilla Road live last week in London and man, what a great band to see on stage. While they solely played songs from the 80s era and a few from the latest, hearing every song was so satisfying. With seeing them now, the list of bands I am in real need to see shrinks. The one band I've yet to see live that I really need to see is Dream Theater. They're number one on my list of live bands that I haven't seen.

Got a copy of The Battle Rages On... by Deep Purple for $1 at a Goodwill I go to searching for good cheap CDs and vinyls.
Pretty good album. The vocals took a little to get used to because they just seemed off to me on this.

and I love Ian Gillan's vocals by the way

Oh....then you might dislike my sister's bf. Apparently he was at a concert where Dream Theater were playing and walked out when their set started because he hates Dream Theater.

Nice. Wish we'd get more bands like that playing around here. I know Goatwhore is playing in Chicago on Sunday and Pentagram is up there TONIGHT with Iron Reagan, BANG, Radio Moscow, and Kings Destroy. But I have no way to get there. Well.....I do. But I'd have to stay with someone due to the fact the show would probably go on into the night and any train I could take home wouldn't run late enough for me to go home.

With seeing them now, the list of bands I am in real need to see shrinks.

I have a bunch of bands I still wanna see because damn near all my favorite bands never tour in the US or don't tour period. Case in point. Electric Wizard.

That guy is so insanely talented it makes me sick. :) Plus he has all sorts of awesome gear to play with.

I really like his covers too like his version of Wrecking Ball (bonus cute and also VERY talented lady singing). You know, a lot of these pop songs aren't bad if done properly!

Just discovered Fleshgod Apocalypse and Septicflesh and HOLY SHIT so very, very good. I liked Septicflesh's Titan album so much I ordered the CDs today.

Ah, I listened to a bit of Fleshgod Apocalypse when they popped up in my sub box from Nuclear Blast. Interesting band, I really like the classical influence and their intro/outro songs Temptation and Agony, though I didn't notice a whole lot of variety in the music and the vocal style was kind of iffy.

I recommand ignoring FA's album Agony, and listening to Oracles. It's by far their better album, and it doesn't reek of cheesy synth orchestrations taking the whole damn place in the production :)

No idea if this was touched on earlier this year but, has anyone else listened to the new Burzum album yet?
It's okay if you're into his "Dark Ambient Electronic" stuff. But if you're more into the Black Metal Burzum, just keep walking.

I've found the sort of medieval inspired dark ambient music that some people in the metal scene seem to like to make to be mostly pretty boring. Pazuzu, Elffor, Summoning's non-metal dark ambient stuff. meh. Never bothered to listen to any of Burzum's music, though.

I'll agree that that stuff can get kinda boring and more often than not its always a major turn off for me. But theres something about Burzum's stuff that I'm okay with. Mainly the album Sol Austan, Mani Vestan. Someone did a really good guitar version of the song Solbjorg off of that.

Any of you guys have opinions on Sunn O))) and Ulver's collab? I've seen it in store recently and thought about buying it, even though I've never given it a proper listen. I might go get it today, but I'll most likely give it one listen online first, just to make sure.

Somehow, Burzum's album Hliðskjálf was very good, regardless of the limitations due to Varg being in prison at the time. It's a very good dark ambient album.

I've been meaning to but shit just keeps coming up and I keep finding myself having no time to do anything unless I have the day off from work. And I have this weekend off. But I'm going to see Amon Amarth, Skeletonwitch, and Sabaton on Saturday.

Haha! I've seen Amon Amarth live, back in the days when it was common to see Trivium and Amon Amarth opening for Children of Bodom. That was back in 2005, when CoB released Are You Dead Yet?

On the subject of Sunn O))) and Ulver's Terrestrial, I've given the album a listen today, and my first impression is that it's decent. Not as loud as I would have hoped for, and not Ulver enough for my tastes. You can definitely feel Ulver in there, but the focus was a little too much on more typical Sunn O))) drone stuff. Eternal Return is, so far, my favorite track. But the other two were also quite interesting. I'll definitely listen to it a few more times and try to decide if I want to buy it or not.

Just got home from being gone for the weekend a little bit ago.
The show was really good. Mostly for Skeletonwitch and Sabaton despite Skeletonwitch being all instrumental. The crowd was really good for both of their sets. We had people playfully moshing to Skeletonwitch and for Sabaton's set a ton of people were jumping around smiling, having a good time, singing along, and headbanging.

Now. Amon Amarth's set was good. The music was good and the songs spanned like 5 different albums and they opened with Father Of The Wolf and did TWO encores of Twilight Of The Thunder God and Pursuit Of Vikings. The crowd was shit. Fucking beating on other people just to get mildly close to the front and in my case getting a fucking elbow dug into your throat and beaten over the head a few times by people trying to force you to move even though I'm a short person and they could already fucking see over me. I mean for gods sake. And I got fed up with the dude who was hitting me in the head and decided to turn around and shove him away from me. Which resulted in a full on brawl near where I was because he attacked someone NEXT to me. In my defense I was mainly pissed about it because someone fucked up my left arm and shoulder towards the end of Sabaton's set and I felt like shit after that and was on the verge of passing out because of it because I was in an enormous amount of pain and my arm felt like 4x heavier than usual. And on top of that I could hardly move and was severely dehydrated (not even exaggerating, I had half a bottle of Snapple in the car after we left and I drank it in under 5 seconds).

On the subject of Sunn O))) and Ulver's Terrestrial, I've given the album a listen today, and my first impression is that it's decent. Hmm okay. I'll see if I can get around to listening to it sometime this week. I gotta work tomorrow so it'd have to be Tuesday. Unless I can get some time in tomorrow before I have to leave for work.

Howdy.
Lately I've been having a hard time enjoying music and having the desire to sit down and concentrate on the sounds emitting from my headphones. Music has become more of a background noise, which is a bad thing to make a habit out of. Today, however, I really wanted to listen to some metal, but all the music I have, I've listened to a million times before. And since you guys have been very helpful in the past, I wondered if you could rec me some bands/albums. I'm open to most genres, but I'm not a fan of power metal or industrial and I'm skeptical to newer death metal, viking/folk metal and symphonic stuff.

It's been quite a while since I was here last, but it's great to see a lot of the same people still post here.

Damn....was gonna suggest Sabaton. Especially their newest album or at least the songs Panzer Battalion or To Hell And Back.
Though hmm.....lets see.
What about:
Cloud Catcher
Black Capricorn
Ogre
Truckfighters
Lord Dying
and Wo Fat
Bonus Wo Fat: Descend Into The Maelstrom

Good non-Metal music to check out:
The Town Troubles
The Black Angels
My Morning Jacket
Earthless
The Cosmic Dead
Electric Moon

Welcome back! What kind of metal are you especially into? Favorite bands? As far as I know, I think I could recommend

Negură Bunget, especially Om and 'N Crugu Bradului

Klabautamann - Merkur

Coroner, pretty much anything but I'd go for Mental Vortex and No More Color

Black Future and Outer Isolation by Vektor

Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death

Disaster - Criaturas del Mal

Bad news for Black Tusk fans.

"Last night Athon and his Girlfriend Emily were involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Its my understanding that a car ran a stop sign in front of them and they had no chance to avoid a collision. He is currently in the ICU, and the doctors have him in an induced coma to monitor his injuries. Emily is currently coherent and recovering in the hospital. The doctors are telling us that all we can do know is wait and see. We will post updates as they become available."
