Not a bad band per say. They just haven't been relevant for the last 8 years... and it's getting pretty obvious.

A few months ago I picked up Behemoth's "The Satanist" and it quickly became one of my favorite albums, and the themes represented in the final track "O Father O Satan O Sun" as detailed in the booklet that came with the CD really intrigued me, and I ended up buying some books and doing a lot of research on the subject.
Long story short, it led to my first tattoo, which I thought I would never get. Anyone else have music related tattoos?
Apologies for the dirty mirror and arms that haven't seen push-ups since basic training

That's cool man - what is it supposed to be? Are you going to get it colored in? All I have is a chicken foot (peace sign) that I gave myself when I was 14. I should probably get it made into something else but what, I don't know.
I just got the new The Haunted album - it's great. I'm listening to it again now. They have Ola Englund on guitars now. Most people probably won't know him, but he has done TONS of videos demoing various amps, he's played for Six Feet Under, and various other stuff.
A few things.
Electric Wizard now have 2 songs out from their upcoming album "Time To Die".
I haven't had internet connection on my desktop for a month but am still finding ways to keep up with that haha
opening riff sounds too much like the riff from Sabbath Bloody Sabbath....
And I was at a record store and picked up a copy of The Admiral Sir Cloudesley Shovell - Check Em Before You Wreck Em.
Pretty solid Psychedelic Heavy Metal. Sharing similarities with bands like Sir Lord Baltimore, Uncle Acid, Deep Purple, Witchcraft, Budgie, etc.

Trust me, they have. I'd say that Damnation and Deliverance are probably my favorites by em. Though I still need to listen to a few more albums before I can give a definitive decision on that.
At 8/25/14 10:47 PM, BrenTheMan wrote: Nice - listening to Opeth's latest now. So far so good. It's definitely a different sound for them so I'm trying to listen as if they were a new band. I prefer the Blackwater Park / Ghost Reveries / Watershed sound myself.
I still need to. I actually pre-ordered it for my gf and haven't gotten to pick up my copy haha. Though shes at school and I'm planning on getting it before we visit one another again.
At 8/27/14 02:20 PM, BrenTheMan wrote: Although, can Opeth be called metal now?
On some level I'd say they can be. But nowadays they're more Prog Rock than anything. Then again Rush are still thrown in with metal even though they're predominately a Hard Rock/Prog Rock band. But then again....again, they have Alex fucking Lifeson.

Man, I have totally fallen out of listening to music, let alone metal. I tried to revive my Zune that's been out of use for over a year, maybe two years. Got a new sync cable and plugged it in. Sadly, that battery is dead for good. I wonder if it's worth it to order a battery and try to put it in myself. Dang, if I had only gotten that cable way sooner it might still work. I had over 10,000 songs on it. Luckily, I still have all my music saved on my external hard drive. I gotta get a new one, though cuz it's almost out of space.

I didn't know they covered that, too. Agent Steel did a good cover of it.

I'm honestly not big enough of a Maiden fan to make a list.
Ordered a Black Tusk hoodie from Relapse that has the cover of Set The Dial on the back of it. Pretty sweet looking and only cost $20 WITH shipping.

Indeed they did. Blaze Bayley is singing and I honestly prefer it over the original.

I'd say me too but that's be coming from someone who had considered getting Eddie from Powerslave as a tattoo haha.
Forefather - Three Great Ships
An awesome black/folk (viking?) metal band that I haven't seen discussed in here very often... if ever. Amazing band, really! Some of you guys could really enjoy this.
Also, general black/folk discussion.
I'm new to Metal. I recently got into Metallica. I'm now practically gay for them.
Guide my soul through Metal Hell. I want to know the most recommended Metallica albums (I plan to listen to all of them eventually, but I wanna start off with a few of the fan favorites, I guess).
*New Supergroup*
Devil's Highway. The members are as follows:
Kyle Thomas (Trouble) vocalist
Ralph Santolla (Deicide) guitarist
Matt Brunson (Crowbar) guitarist
Steve DiGiorgio (Testament) bassist
and Tony Laureano (Dimmu Borgir) drummer
They're releasing an album thats expected to come out sometime next year. But if you want to listen to a song they've released off of it, check here.
My buds in Depremacy have recently gotten their bassist/vocalist back and are going to be opening for Overkill Sunday.

I'd say the only Metallica you should listen to is their first 4 albums.
So - Kill Em' All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All.
Favorite tracks off each
KEA - Motorbreath
RTL - Creeping Death
MOP - Orion
AJFA - This is tough cause it's my favorite 'tallica album. So I'd say either Blackened, One, or Dyers Eve

The self titled was decent.

Like the other guys said, the first four albums are their best. The self-titled is also decent, and I, for one thing, believe that Death Magnetic has a few good moments.
Ya know, all day yesterday I was listening to the first 8 Sabbath albums from Black Sabbath to Never Say Die and I honestly gotta say, I don't understand why Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die get so much crap. Seriously Technical Ecstasy has some pretty good songs on it. Rock N Roll Doctor, You Wont Change Me, Dirty Women.... And Never Say Die has the title track, A Hard Road, Shock Wave, Air Dance, Swinging The Chain, and Junior's Eyes. And for the Ozzy Sabbath albums I think like half of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath is good and the other stuff could have been a lot better and that I felt they were "missing" something there and it just came back on Sabotage, partly went away again on Technical Ecstasy, stayed that way on Never Say Die, and then Ozzy was out and we got Dio. The Dio Sabbath stuff is good. But it's a different beast than what Ozzy Sabbath was. Same with Tony Martin. And Tony Martin Sabbath is really good too but I almost never see anyone talking about anything other than Dio and Ozzy when it comes to Sabbath. Which is a shame since Dio was only with em for 3 albums (really only like Heaven And Hell and kinda like Mob Rules) and Tony Martin was with them for 5.
Just my 2 cents.

It is. I wont deny that. But I honestly think it's overplayed and too many people only tend to know Metallica for JUST that or JUST Enter Sandman when they have 9 albums and are constantly bouncing back around saying they are and then saying they're not recording a 10th album and then saying they're writing songs and then going to say they have like 724723545245 riffs but only one song that may or may not be on their upcoming album that'll come out before the end of the century in it's current form.
Personally I think Lords Of Summer is a decent song and kinda hope the new album has more songs like that and try going for a thrashier Death Magnetic but...yeah. Kinda went off on my own thing but whatever.
Saw DragonForce last night with a local band called Conjuring Fate opening them (who are pretty awesome).
I liked it a lot, but there must have been something up with the sound guy because they'd somehow managed to brickwall a live performance, I couldn't really make anything out.

What tracks did they play?

Sweet. They're going to be playing closish to me next May with Kamelot and I'm trying to find someone to go with me.
i asked my gf but since shes in college she can't go due to it being on a Wednesday and she has class
New Electric Wizard album is here for your listening (dis)pleasure.
haha
I'm getting into it now and I gotta say. I was hyped for it. And well....this lives up the expectations I had for it. But in the end I'm almost positive theres going to be a majority of fans who wished they gave a little....more. It's overall a good mix of elements that were present in albums like Black Mass and Dopethrone but instead of having songs that sorta drug (heh) on the songs are relatively short. Out of the 9 tracks 3 of them are under 5 minutes long and only 2 are over 10. The other 4 are in the 7-9 minute range. Though EW does have a history of releasing some pretty great shorter songs. And I'm actually glad that they didn't have an album with nothing but like 10 minute+ songs because I have a feeling they'd probably drag on for awhile.
All in all I'd say it's a really good follow up to albums like Black Mass and Witchcult Today. But if you're looking for the old first few albums Wizard where they were really heavy (Time To Die is still pretty heavy though), raw, and didn't sound like they did on the last couple albums you may not like it as much.

I honestly can't think of one song I like beyond the black album. I should give the later albums a try at least since I haven't bothered since the 90s.
That movie they just put out was AWESOME though, holy shit.

Trying to listen to Death Magnetic, and it's just so fucking loud and distorted. I thought maybe the Spotify version was fucked up somehow, but I guess not!
Apparently they boosted the mix to the absolute max before it even went to mastering ("smashed to fuck"). There was a fan backlash but as to how much backlash, no idea (a huge backlash, I would hope). I just can't believe Metallica put this out there, this is just atrocious sounding on somewhat good speakers, USB DAC, and amp.
Otherwise it's not a bad album musically, I just don't know if I can finish this atrocity due to the distortion alone.

Haha, they might have tried too hard to make it sound "thrashy"

That's not something that really bothered me somehow. Maybe I just got used to very abrasive production among thrash metal and more specifically black metal and crust/black metal albums, so when I listened to Death Magnetic it didn't struck me as "painful" production.

Rick Rubin is the opposite of King Midas.
Instead of everything he touches turning to gold, everything he touches turns to garbage.

I read that Metallica were on tour when he was finishing up Death Magnetic, and they agreed to step back and allow him to take more creative control.
WTF? How the hell could they seriously put an album like that out there?
I still like Death Magnetic in terms of the music itself but that fucking sound production, ugh. I'm guessing he's taking care for the next Metallica album (wheever that will be but I could care less if Lords of Summer is anything to go by) but I really wish they could get a producer who actually knows what they're doing.
Testing the edit button. :D

I'd love it if they worked with Flemming Rasmussen again. Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All are all great production-wise. Not just that but he's also worked on stuff for: Morbid Angel, Blind Guardian, Ensiferum, and Rainbow.
Hell Bob Rock would be better than Rick Rubin.
This is the first I've heard of this somehow.

A devilish unicorn, of course.
but really
The horsemen were some of the founding members and most active users of the club back then. They were the one accepting or refusing new members in the Metal Hell. But time passed by, and some of them just stopped coming around, so we kept those who were active and replaced the others by making the members of the Metal Hell vote to elect two new horsemen.
So the horsemen are basically just regular members but with a job in the human resources department.
It doesn't "take" something specific to be Horseman.
Looky looky what came in the mail for me today.

I'll briefly interject to say that while I haven't yet listened to "Death Magnetic" (getting around to it, but thanks for all the other recommendations everybody!!), I am a fan of a lot of Rubin's earlier work. I mean, I know a lot of people here probably don't think very much of hip hop, but I can personally appreciate the role he's played in many hip hop artists' early careers.
