...*relative post pertaining to forum follows*
uhm. looks like people still posting top 20? to be critiqued? sorry but if this forum is only about your taste being tested, maybe it isnt the place for me. since i came here, very few weeks ago, i've seen some decent METALbands get dissed. (not the korn fuckers) i have had some awesome suggestions though as well.
not only is it enough that 'metalheads' say anything that they dont like sucks and isnt metal, but now metalheads are dissing metalheads, fighting for some invisible 'bad ass' trophy...winner being determined of how 'tr00' their taste is.
not cool.
you'd think elitism would bring a common ground between you all, and you wouldnt care about other people's taste and talk about more sensible things. like goat's EP, or great guitarists and drummers from the genre.
i guess everyone's a critic these days.

End your rant, because it's really just Duffeknol who's being the ass here. I am liking him less and less because he's being such an ass.

i just talk about whatever i want. usually its metal. but it could be other stuff. yea, duffelknol is very close-minded to other types of music in general. i like nile, but i also love ICP. whatever.

I agree, this is getting over the top right now. People post lists of their bands here and get bashed by some mean-ass over "troo" kvlt users,(duffeknoll, sorry, but this seems to be your attitude as well).

well, in therms of TOPICS, anyone of you heard Vader's "The Art of War" EP yet? It's like a mix of Litany and Revelations to me and it SLAYS.

I've only heard one song, This Is The War, and i love it. If the rest of the album stays in suit, should be pretty badass indeed

and the title track is actually the worst on the EP! (still great) you need to check "What Colour is Your Blood?" immediately ;)

Yaaaaaayyyyyy! Remember how Goat Pervertor changed its name to Asgarður? Well, we've been heading to a more viking metal sound. It's like Enslaved, but a bit heavier, longer, and melodic. We did a song a few minutes ago, called Sword of Asgard, and I'm still mixing and mastering it (for those who don't know, I'm the drummer.) The production is pretty rough (it's like what you would expect with viking metal) and it has acoustic guitars and keyboards and it's just over10 minutes long. It's about dying in the Final Battle. The official instrumentation goes:

Me: Drums, Keyboards, acoustic guitars
Leech: Electric guitars, vocals, acoustic guitars
James: Bass, vocals, 6 string bass

The songs were co-written by the whole band, and I wrote the lyrics.

Did you save the review on your PC? I'd love to see it. Yeah, I know, the Metal Archives are pretty rough with their guidelines, I also had some well-written reviews(in my opinion) send and they got rejected. It's a piss-off sometimes.

Ghoul, Asgarður sounds very interesting, can't wait to hear some material. Oh, and you still owe me a review I guess ;) and I thought you'd send In the Winter Lies the Warmth as mp3?

Thanks for the awesome review, Imperium :)

GChrist - My review of your EP DID get accepted, but I havent seen it yet because the archives have been flooded, I guess.

Also, I've been told Vader is something I might like, any reccommendations?

Yeah, I read it already, it's great, thank you :)

Well, you can listen to all Vader albums, they are about the most consistent band ever, but try songs like "Xeper", "What Colour Is Your Blood?" or "Nomad"...you won't be disappointed :)

bred_4_abortion, that's too bad :( oh well, thanks for the score and thanks for trying.

People: fuck you

When I want to express my opinion about bands I will do so, and if I call certain METAL bands gay it's because I don't like them (image, music whatever), I NEVER claimed that the bands I critizise are not metal, unless they really aren't (the standard slipknot & co). For example: I fucking hate Nile, so I call them gay, but calling them 'not metal' would just be plain stupid.

And if you think I'm too forward with my opinion, fuck you. Since when are metalheads pussies that are afraid to say what they really feel?

By the way, I'm not even that much of an elitist. I actually listen to TONS of stuff that isn't metal, but never to stuff that claims to be metal and isn't (note: this is called 'false' metal). C'mon, I even like the fucking bloodhound gang, the Dire Straits, Yes, Fleetwood Mack, Yes and more stuff like that.

I just hate a lot of bands that you think are cool.
CoB, too fucking happy happy joy joy
Opeth, too damn slow and boring
Nile, repetitive and nothing special
Deicide, repetitive and nothing special
Arch Enemy, makes me want to sleep
and so on and on and on

If I can't say this anymore, I'm fucking gone

Well, I am gonna send it via yousendit.com in .rar format. However, I gotta find the Data CD which holds the entire album on it. I usually take a really fucking long time with my reviews. I gotta really KNOW the CD before I review.

Oh, and when Asgarður records the other song, The Leaves of Yggdrasil (I'm still writing the lyrics to that), I'm gonna release it with the "A Sword in God's Ribs" demo. The as-of-yet-untitled EP is gonna have two songs on it (Leaves of Yggdrasil, Sword of Asgard) and it's gonna be around 22 minutes long. Then I'm gonna send you guys the ENTIRE demo and EP as a little present, to compete with GC's present.

I listen to nearly all kinds of music and lately I've been leaning towards heavier and heavier genres, still holding my interest towards the lighter ones. I'd like to learn more about great metal bands and sub-genres. I've just tarted training with a band(mostly rock and metal) and would like to broaden my view. At the moment I like melodic stuff the most, with relatively clean vocals, for I like to sing along! ;)

Some of the bands I like:

-Opeth(didn't even know it's actually METAL before now, still getting to know the band)
-System of A Down(some great guitars, they have)
-Disturbed( Now, I know people can have some REALLY extreme opinions about them, but this was the band that introduced me to harder stuff, I really like their second album!)
-Kotiteollisuus(Although it's Finnish as well as I am, I really haven't had the time to get to know them better...pitty...)
-Stam1na(Another Finnish band. Like some of their songs.)
-Metallica(Don't like the band's greedy reputation, but they've made some great songs)
-Iron Maiden(Again, I don't kow them too well, but some of their songs I've heard are good!)

So people, judging by what I have here, what would you recommend to me, that you listen to yourself?
(Something you don't have to rip your thoat apart to sing, please ^^)

Can you list a few more? System of a Down and Disturbed do not qualify, and although IMO they aren't terrible bands, they are not metal. They two Finnish bands I have not heard and cannot verify. Metallica and Iron Maiden do qualify, and you do seem to definitly have an interest, so I think more than likely you'll get in, but maybe one or two more bands would be nice, as well as other people's verdicts.

I would recommend In Flames for easy-listening melodic metal (though a couple of In Flames cds aren't any good, thier older stuff is), Dark Tranquillty for some great melodic death metal (best band in that genre IMO) and maybe Children of Bodom for some harder but still melodic stuff. All of these bands (except maybe Children) have some clean vocals at some point, but the majority are growled.

eh... HIM?! :D One of the most well-known metal bands that have ever come from Finland...? Seriously, I really don't listen to them all that much, but I like their sound OK...

Just so I'll know, At what point does hard rock turn into metal? I know Disturbed themselves have classified their music metal, and SOAD was actually sold out public as "metal", though they seem to me more like some sort of alternative...

Children... there's another one I should know just because of my nationality, but maybe it's just a little too much growling... Their guitarist is good, though! Thanks for the tips! I'd like to learn more!
